The arrow was pointed at her chest, straight to her heart. She had been targeted. Time to run.

3. Berries

I was being followed, most definetly, I had broken all the rules my mother had taught me. Be light on your feet, shut the hell up, and hide.

I was making a racket, crushing dead leaves, and crying. I was so loud I scared away the crows. I was a pointed sign, look at me, look at me, see me, I'm a crying little girl you can come over and rape, make my kids killers and then shoot for a game!

"This world is a jest." I muttered to myself, sprinting still, no destination, no where to go.

Suddenly I ran into someone.

"Hey, what the heck?!" It was a little girl, and her dried and half bug eaten berries rolled onto the forest floor.
"Do you know how long it took me to find those?!" She was furious, her little hands balled up into tiny fists.

I bent down, picked them up, blew on them to get the dirt off, and held them out.

She popped them in her mouth all at once, then grinned, little berry seeds dotting her teeth.

"Yay! Berries!" She continued munching.

I watched her, slightly amused.

After she finished, she grabbed my hand. "Come on."

"Where are we going?" I asked her.

"We're going to see Mommy."
