2. Chapter 2 (:

Aubrey’s P.O.V.

I enter the classroom with a pile of books in my hands. Ms. Aleman said she needed me to tutor one of her students, and if it meant having another recommendation for college applications, I was more than happy to. You see, in my family, college is important. Both of my parents went to college, and with Louis Tomlinson as a boyfriend, I had a lot of expectations to meet. As always, Ms. Aleman is happy to see me. She pulls me into a warm embrace and smiles widely.

“How have you been, Aubrey?” she asks.

“Perfect,” I lie with a smile, “how have you been?”

“Rather well,” she answers, “now the student should have been here two minutes ago, but I suppose he is late. You know, Aubrey, it happens.”

Of course I know. I have been tutoring students for the previous four semesters, and usually the students are careless or irresponsible or in worst cases, both. I place the pile of books onto a table as a blonde-haired student rushes into the classroom. He laces his fingers through his hair to fix it as Ms. Aleman gives him the death stare.

“Nice of you to join us, Horan,” she says.

“Sorry, Ms. Aleman,” he mumbles and proceeds to his seat.

Horan. I’ve heard of the name before. Ah, Niall Horan. My friends Perrie and Jade mention him often. I usually ignore their gossip, but they mention him a lot. Probably more than they needed to. They have a way of knowing the dish on every single student of Meadowview High. It is actually quite frightening. Ms. Aleman hands Niall a study guide and crosses her arms.

“Meet Aubrey,” Ms. Aleman says, “she will be your afterschool tutor until the semester is over.”

“My tutor? Who says I need a tutor?” he argues.

“The failing grades on your exams do,” she notes, “Aubrey has been the tutor of many of my former students. If you plan to graduate this year, you will greatly appreciate her, Mr. Horan. Besides, Greg said you needed a bit of motivation. Aubrey is head of your class, president of the National Honor Society, and on her way to Columbia University with her boyfriend if all goes well with her application process.” She smiles widely as she says it, and I return her smile though the thought of it overwhelms me. I have the weight on my shoulders.

“Well, good for her,” Niall sneers and pierces his round eyes with mine, “but I don’t need a tutor. I have a job and am busy as it is—”

“We would only meet once a week,” I interrupt nervously, “I am free any day but Thursdays, and I am very flexible with where we meet.”

“I never asked,” he sighs, “Ms. Aleman, would it be better if I had my friend Zayn tutor me instead?”

I assume he means Zayn Malik, the boy Perrie lives with. Zayn and I have English class together, and I am not going to lie, he has a knack for it, but chemistry? I am not so sure. Besides, what is the big deal with me tutoring him? He acts like we are committing to a serious relationship. That would never happen. With deadlines on every corner, I never have time for serious…I rarely have time for my own boyfriend.

“Absolutely not,” Ms. Aleman says, “you and Aubrey are a perfect match! You will meet with her every Tuesday after school starting tomorrow, or else your brother will hear from me, do I make myself clear?”

Niall nods obediently and tosses his backpack on. Right, Ms. Aleman, if by perfect match you meant a death sentence, then sure, Niall Horan and Aubrey Osborn were definitely the perfect match.
