10. Chapter 10 (:

Aubrey’s P.O.V

“You did awesome, babe!” I shout and leap into his burly arms. Louis lifts me off of the floor and spins me around. “I am so proud of you,” I beam and press my lips to his, “but when am I not?” He places me on the floor as Harry, one of the boys on his team, walks toward us.

“Hey, guys,” Harry smiles, “a few of the boys and their girls were going for a victory dinner in a few. Are you down?”

Louis places a hand on my hip and smiles widely. “Nah,” he says with a wink, “Aubrey and I had other plans.” I giggle and unravel myself from him to hop into his car.

“Alright,” Harry laughs and hugs Louis, “have fun, but be safe guys.” He deviously slips a package, assumed to be a condom, to Louis, and I gulp fearfully. I know I agreed to have sex with Louis today, but I mean, I have every right to be nervous, right? My virginity means a lot to me, and it will be gone in a few minutes. Shit, how do I get out of this one? No, Aubrey, tonight is the night, lose it to Louis, and the wait is over!

“Are you ready, babe?” Louis smiles and climbs into his seat. Not quite, I think, but instead, I nod and hold his hand in mine. He closes the door behind him and rumbles the engine. “Your place or mine?”

“Mine,” I smile, “Daddy has his appointment now. We should be alone for a few hours.” He bites his lip and rubs invisible circles on my hand as he turns the wheel toward home. Louis lowers his hand and brushes his fingers along my thigh.

“Mine,” he growls, “after tonight, all mine.” I smile awkwardly and gently push his hand away. He notices my hesitation, and returns his impatient hand to the steering wheel.

“Sorry,” I mumble, “I guess I’m a bit nervous.”

“How about a bit of music to clear your mind?” He presses the dial of his radio, which blares Glad You Came by the Wanted.

Louis immediately turns the dial and shakes his head disapprovingly. “God, I hate the Wanted,” he huffs. I giggle, and lean my head lazily on the window to view the scenery. If I had my camera with me, the shots would have been beautiful. I have always been interested in photography, but I guess with college in a few months, my visions have to be “realistic” as Ms. Aleman calls them. As we pull into the driveway, I would have noticed his blonde hair anywhere. I sprout of the car and march to him with my fists by my sides.

“What the hell are you doing here?” I shout as Niall hops out of his car with both of his palms facing me as a signal to calm down.

“Aubrey, you have to listen to me,” he begs, “Louis is lying to you!”

“Keep Louis out of this,” I hiss. Louis opens his door and places his sunglasses above his head before hopping out of his car. “He has nothing to do with you. I have nothing to do with you.”

“Horan, go home,” Louis argues and shoves Niall against his car. Swiftly, Niall grabs Louis by the shirt and pulls his body toward him with a visible force. I fear Niall as he drills his stare into Louis causing his normally blue pigmented eyes to darken into waves of the ocean.

“I’ll go home when you tell Aubrey your secret,” Niall huffs.

“What secret?” I ask with furrowed eyebrows.

“Yeah,” he says, “tell her, Louis. Tell her about Jade.” Louis pushes Niall off of him and turns around ashamed. When the color drains from his face, I realize Louis is hiding a lie from me. I know him well enough to detect his lies, but I honestly believed we would be honest with one another now. What the hell? What about Jade? I saw her not too long ago, and she seemed fine.

“Louis,” I breathe, holding in my tears, “what about Jade?”

“We…we…had sex, but Aubrey, listen, I love you, I do, but I had needs, and Jade was willing to fulfill those needs for me, so—”

“—So you had sex with her,” I finish, allowing emphasis to slip into every word, “wonderful explanation, Louis, please, tell me more about how you cheated on me with one of my best friends…you are fucking pathetic. Go home.”

“Aubrey, please,” he presses, “I love you, baby. You are the only girl for me, and I made a mistake.”

“Right,” my voice manages, “you did…and now, you’re nothing to me.”

Louis opens his mouth to respond, but shifts his eyes from me to Niall to me, and realizes it is in his best interest to remain silent. He closes his mouth and hops into his car to drive home. I turn to see Niall, who has his hands buried in his pockets. He nears me with open arms to pull me in a hug, and honestly, being buried in his arms would be nice…to feel him wrapped around me, whispering it will be okay in his thick Irish accent. Before he manages to pull me into a hug, I step away and cross my arms angrily. He exhales his breath and lowers his eyes to the floor. Why were people assholes in general to me? What did I do? Louis and I were supposed to be the star couple, but he made the mistake to cheat on me with Jade, one of my best friends…well, I guess not anymore. It made sense though: how Louis managed to be so patient through the years and how often he never answered my messages. Oh well, I am officially done with assholes, but here is Niall, literally about to win me over with his beautiful eyes.

“Niall, you were still an asshole to me,” I whisper. He is close, and the smell of his cologne lingers in the air. His darkened blue eyes brand into me as he runs his fingers through his blonde hair. “Why?”

“Aubrey,” he sighs, “I had to push you away.”

“Why?”

Suddenly, he cups my face with his hands and crashes his lips into mine. The feeling is…nice. His kiss is unlike any kiss I have ever had with Louis. His lips are sweet and innocent, and not begging for more. Actually, unlike any boy I have ever kissed, his kiss is slow, thoughtful. When he pulls away, my lips follow in urge, but when I notice myself doing it, I still myself and gaze into those beautiful sapphire orbs. “Because I couldn’t do that.”

“Well, now,” I force a smile, “you can do it whenever you want.”

“How about now?” He places his index fingers through the loops of my jeans and tugs me closer, our bodies sparing no distance between the other. He kisses me again, and this time, I feel me falling for Niall. The feeling is nuts because only a few days ago, he pushed me away, but I guess it was because he thought Louis and I were happily in a relationship…but a part of me feels there is more to the story. A car pulls into the driveway causing him to pull away, and once again, I follow his lips in urge. We turn our heads to see Josh Devine, one of the boys from the team, hopping out of his car.

“Horan,” he bellows, “Louis told me you would be here. We had a deal, where is my money?”

“Money for what?” I ask as my hands run along his abdomen. Niall turns to me, and fear washes over him. He opens his mouth to respond, but finds himself unable to find the words.

“The pills,” Josh answers and holds out a Ziploc bag of white pills, “he promised to have the money before the tournament.”

I shove Niall off of me and lace my fingers through my hair. “Niall, you do drugs?”

“Are you kidding me?” Josh scoffs. “The lad has been one of my valued customers for a while now. Hey, Horan, call me when you lose the girl and have my money, and these bad boys are all yours.” He holds the bag of pills up and wags it playfully. “See you later, bro.” He hops into his car and pulls out of the driveway.

This had to be a joke. Much to popular belief, my life is far from perfect, and I thought with Niall, at least the boyfriend issue would be resolved, but I guess not.

“Aubrey,” Niall whispers and tugs on my hand, “after Louis lied to you for many months, I promise to be honest with you, but you have to be here for me. I do drugs…a lot, and I know it may hurt our relationship, but I do it because I have to. It helps me.”

“It helps?” I ask and return his gaze with saddened eyes. Admittedly, instead of being angry, my expression eases into worry. Niall is handsome and with a bit of motivation, really smart, and honestly, he had a lot going for him…but drugs would mess him up along the way. I know more than anyone. I know because Daddy deals with criminals who fall into the cycle of drugs all the time, but these criminals have the greatest potentials. “It helps with what?”

“It helps with dealing with my mom.”

“Niall, is she abusive? Is she an alcoholic? What is it? Why do you do drugs to deal with your mom?” I notice the panic in my voice and realize I really am concerned for Niall because I somehow connect with his heart. If he hurts, I hurt. I await his response as he lowers his eyes and shrugs.

“She died.”
