Survivors

Just one scene and starts in the middle. Let me know if you want me to write more. A girl survives an extermination, but wants to forget. Who can help her? People that have also survived? Or is she a lost cause?

SCENE FROM SURVIVORS

EXT. CALIFORNIA – YOSEMITE - SUMMER AFTERNOON

The wind was heavy and rough, forcing David’s black hair to blow back. The forest was quiet, the animals having left the area. The sun shines through some of the tall trees that surrounded the area. A crimson red covering part of the grass catches his eye, distracting him from the nasty wind and the debris it carried with it from the destroyed town.

DAVID:

Hello? Who is over there? Are you okay?

NATASHA:

(sounding frightened)

Don’t come any closer.

DAVID:

(concern in his voice)

You’re hurt.

NATASHA:

(sobs)

I…

The sclera of her eyes was red, although a lighter red than the blood that covered her body. David could only see a gash on Natasha’s head as well as what looked like a bullet wound by her collar bone. Of course the ash from the explosion and smoke covered her scrawny body, along with third degree burns that covered her arms.

DAVID:

Is anyone else alive?

NATASHA:

(in a low voice)

No. I shouldn’t be either. I should have stayed. I should have…

David crept a little closer, kneeling down. Natasha scurried back; frightened.

DAVID:

It’s okay. You did the only thing you could. You needed to survive. For that you are strong.

NATASHA:

(laughing)

Strong? I think we have different definitions of that word. Weak? Pathetic? A Coward? That’s me. Strong? (Laughing stops, her voice serious and sad) No. Strong people stay and fight even if the odds aren’t in their favor.

David’s face scrunches

DAVID:

In movies, yes. In reality people do what they can to survive. Come with me. If you inhale anymore smoke or debris you will die. We will teach you to forget.

NATASHA:

(speaks angrily)

Forget? Forget the death? The murderers? (sobs, tears rolling down her face) How could I possibly forget? I watched all the people I love die.

David stares at Natasha, letting the silence flood in. After a few seconds gun shots begin to echo throughout the forest. David’s eyes fill with worry as the sweat drips from his brow.

DAVID:

We know how you feel. You can bleed with us.

NATASHA:

(worriedly)

Perhaps…

DAVID:

(nervously)

          We have to hurry.

The gun shots began to close in. Natasha looks out in the woods then back at David allowing a tear to fall down her cheek.

NATASHA:

(softly)

I want to forget.

David outstretches his hand. Natasha hesitantly takes it. A smile runs across David’s face as he and Natasha hold hands running further into the forest with the wind whipping Natasha’s golden blonde hair back. The further they get, the more the gunshots begin to fade.
