17. Wish Come True

Kevin's P.O.V.

Once it was third period, everyone got ready to go to lunch. Making my way to Carter's classroom, saw her talking to Alexandra. When did the two of them become so close? The look on her face made me smile. when she finally saw me, she waved at me.

"Are you guys ready to eat lunch?" I said to the two of them.

"Um, actually, we were waiting for Scarlett to come and eat lunch with us," she replied with a smile on her face. So Scarlett is back. No wonder she seemed happier than usual today.

"I don't think she'll be able to eat lunch with us today. I have a feeling she's talking with the principle right now," I said.

"How do you know?" she asked.

"Because that's what I was supposed to do the first day of school," I told her. Making our way to our usual lunch hangout with JML, I could tell she was preoccupied. Sitting down, we all took out our lunch and began eating.

"Carter, are you listening to me?" Zelo said, sitting beside her.

"Huh? Um, sorry, what did you say to me?" she asked.

"I asked how you know Scarlett."

"Oh. Scarlett, Kevin and I all used to be neighbours when we were little. We pretty much grew up together," she said.

"Is that all you have to say?" Zelo said.

"For the time being," she said with a faint sad smile. "Besides, why do you want to know?"

"Because you are my friend. I must know everything about you," said Zelo. What was with this guy?

"Psh-ah. You are such a creep. Do you know that?" she said laughing.

"The guys give that to me a lot," he responded.

"It's true. He'll look deep into your soul to find everything about you, then use it against you," said Damian.

"One time! That was one time!" yelled Zelo.

What did he do?" she asked.

"Well, as you know, Damian has a love for war movies. When the two of them first met, Zelo found out that he loved those kind of movies. He invited him over and they watched war movies the whole night. He pretty much bribed his friendship, sneaky little kid," said Chris.

"Shut up. I just wanted to make a friend. Thanks to that, I got my first one," replied Zelo, his face red from embarrassment.

Just like that, the worred look from Carter's face vanished and was replaced with a warm smile. As long as she keeps smiling like that, I can feel at ease.

Carter's P.O.V.

After school, I waited outside of the school with Alex for Scarlett and Kevin. Wondering where Scarlett was, I texted her.

Hey, do you want to hang out at my place today with Kevin? I hope you can come :) We haven't talked in so much >.< -Carter

A few minutes later, she texted me back.

Yeah, sure! I miss you... sorry I couldn't talk today. I'll meet you at your place. I haven't forgotten the place! - Scarlett ;)

Feeling a bit reassured that we could meet up today, I continued waiting or Kevin. Standing outside of the school gates, flocks of people pass me by; girls arm in arm with one another, boys huddled close together cheering that school was finally over.

"Alex, promise me that you will never do that with me. Ever," I said nodding my head towards the group of girls.

"Do what?" she said, looking at the direction I pointed out. "Why not?" She linked her arm around mine.

"It just feels so weird like,'I need my personal place'" I said squirming around trying to get my arm out of hers. "Freedom!"

"You, my friend, have girl problems," she said.

"I'm just not used to hanging around with girls. Like yeah there's Scarlett but I haven't talked to her face to face for like 9 years or so," I said. "Is that your ride?"

"Oh yeah. Sorry about what I just said. See you tomorrow?" she said before going inside her car.

"Yeah, sure. Don't sweat it," I responded. After she left, Kevin finally met me and we made our way to my place. When we finally arrived, we headed up to my room.

"She's going to meet us here, right? Do you think she'll find her way?" he asked as he took his seat on the edge of my bed.

Sitting by my desk, I said,"Um, I think so. I texted her earlier and she said she will. Maybe she'll ask her chauffer to drive her here. I gave her my address just in case."

"Carter, do you think she's ok? I mean, I saw her a few times around the school today and whenever I talked to her, she seemed kind I don't know but I think their's something she's not telling me," he said.

"Maybe she feels kind of awkward when she's around you. I mean, yeah we see each other when we talk online and video chat but it's not the same when you're talking to the real thing." I responded.

"Is that how you felt when you first saw me?" he said smiling a little bit. Yes, when I first saw him, I couldn't believe my eyes. I was reminded of the time I last saw him in person. The little ten year old boy who, even though he was older, would still be afraid of the dark. The little boy who loved playing hide and seek. Now, he turned out to be the tall, slender seventeen year old sitting right in front of me. I took note of the scars on his hands, how his green eyes had a hint of hazel when the light shined on them. How his front bangs would always flop right in front of his right eye. Suddenly noticing that it was only me and him in the room, I suddenly felt self conscious. I teared my eyes away from him and opened my bag to get started on the homework. I heard the front door open and mom welcome someone home. Maybe Callum got back from his violin lessons?

"Do you need help with your math homework?" said Kevin taking the chair by my mirror and bringing it beside me . Tossing my previous thoughts away, I tried to act normally.

No, I'm not in AP Math for no reason," I said taking my glasses out of the desk drawer.

"How come you don't wear these at school?" Kevin asked pointing to my glasses.

"I hate how it looks on my face. It makes my nose look big,"

"The Zelo and them don't think that," he said.

"That's because they have perfect noses. I don't understand why they dress up as nerds when they look so cute without it," I blurted. Once I said that, I wished I hadn't. Did I just say that out loud? Oh, god. What am I thinking?

"You think they're cute?" he asked with a serious face.

"I didn't say anything!" I said covering my mouth with my hands.

"Well, I think you look cute right now," he said ruffling my hair. I could feel my face burning up. When I thought my face was no longer red, I tried to look at Kevin again. Right under his eye was one of his eyelashes.

Scarlett's P.O.V.

After my chauffer brought be to Carter's house, I found myself welcomed by Mrs. Smith. telling me that Carter and Kevin were already inside her room, I thought I would surprise them. Quietly, I made my way up the stairs and stood outside her door. With the room slightly open, I could see Carter and Kevin sitting by her desk. A little bit to close. Choosing to hear what they had to say, I waited outside her door for a while longer.

"Look what I found! Here, blow on this and make a wish," she said holding one of Kevin's eyelashes between her fingers. Closing his eyes, he made his wish a blew. The eyelash was now nowhere to be seen.

"Do you think it will come true?" she asked. Slowly, he approached her, his eyes closed. His lips made their way to her forehead. His left hand at the back of her head. Several seconds later, he finally broke apart from her.

"I think it just did," he said, his face completely red. I couldn't take it anymore. What was happening? Without making any noise, I went back downstairs.

"You're leaving already?" asked Mrs.Smith. I looked at the clock. It was 4:15 p.m. I had only stayed for ten minutes. I didn't want to stay any longer.

"Um, yeah. I told Carter and Kevin that I had to leave early. My dad's secretary called and she said that he wanted to talk to me now," I said lying between my teeth.

"Oh, I see. Well, it was nice having you over. Tell your father that I'd love to invite him over for a cup of tea some time, like the good old days," she said.

"Ok, I'll tell him just that," I replied. Waiting for me outside was my ride, ready to take me home. As always, my dad wasn't home yet. I ran up to my room, slammed the door shut, and laid down on my bed. Did my eyes decieve me? The image of Kevin and Carter together was all I could think about. The endless nights of thinking about how to make Kevin like me left my mind. How could she do this to me?
