8. All By My Self

Carter's P.O.V.

Waking up, I found myself tied onto a chair inside an empty room. What just happened? As I turned my head slightly to look around, a shocking pain made it's way to my jaw. I remember now. This was the result of the punch to the face from earlier. But why were they back? They got what they wanted from last time, didn't they? Unless he made more trouble again. No, I shouldn't be thinking about this. My first priority is to get the heck out of here. Suddenly, the door opens to find the three men back again.

"So, Carter, how are you? Is school going okay? It has been a while hasn't it?" said the first man kneeling in front of me. Trevor was his name, if I remember correctly.

"Shut up, you don't care about that," I spat.

"Still as classy as ever," he responded as he whiped his face with his sleave.

"Is he at it again? Tell me, is this what this is about?"

"And you haven't lost a bit of your intelligence either," said the second man named Mark.

Just tell me how much it is and let me go already. By tomorrow I'll have it ready. How much is it this time? 2 grand? 5?

"I'm sorry it can't be that easy, sweetheart. He hasn't paid up back yet for over two weeks now and then he leaves without a trace. Do you know how much money he borrowed from us this time? 10 grand! And you'll have to pay for it," said the man named John who's blocking the door as Trevor slowly stood up. What am i supposed to do? Out of nowhere, I could hear the sound of a van pull up right by the window. Was there someone out there to find me? They're of no help to me now since the loan sharks are with me. With John standing right in front on me, I kick my leg out right between his legs. As he's rolling on the floor in agony, the two other men start running towards me. Quickly, I get up and swing the chair tied behind me right into the oncoming men. The chair breaks at contact and I'm free. While the men are clutching their ribs, I bunch up my fists and hit, punch and kick each and every one of them. It comes naturally, the fighting. It's just like taekwondo class, I tell myself, It's just taekwondo class. Not even checking if the're still alive, I keep hitting them with all my might.

"Don't ever come and look for me ever again!!" I screamed.

"Carter! You can stop now!" I heard someone yell as the door burst open. As I turned around, I found JML.  Just my luck. How ironic is their name right about now?

"It's okay, Carter, you're safe now," said Zeland as he held me back from kicking them even more.

"I don't even think she needed our help. Look at the damage she did by herself!" whispered Lewis.

"It's over Carter. They won't look for you anymore. I'll make sure of it," said  Zeland wrapping his arms around me. As fast as he had his arms around me, they were gone.

"Why don't we take you home? Wait, I don't think that's the best place to take you after this," said Damian motioning to my bruised face.

"Do you mind if we take you to Zelo's place? We won't do anything bad, we promise," said Gabriel.

"Um, but what should I tell my mom?" I said with the little energy I had left.

"Just say that you're hanging out with you're new best friends!" replied Gabriel. Even in situations like  this, he's still cheerful.

"Ok, Let's go," I said, exhausted. I just need to get out of here. They're right. I'll just tell mom that I'm hanging out with some friends. I can't make her worry. Making my way towards the door, I can feel the energy drain away with every step I take. But only a few steps away from the exit, I feel my body shut down. The last thing I see is light from outside. It stopped raining.
