20. A Helping Hand

Zelo's P.O.V.

When we finally arrived at the amusement park, there were swarms of people around us. I never expected there to be so many people. I was still holding her hand. I couldn't take the smile off of my face.

"So, what do you want to do first?" I asked her. I looked around, my mouth open in awe as I saw all the rides, games, food, couples around us. When I didn't hear a response, I finally looked at her. Face white, lips pale, she held onto her heart chained necklace as still as a statue. "Are you ok?"

Rubbing her thumb against her heart pendant necklace, she responded. "Yeah. By any chance, do you know how tall that rollercoaster is? she said pointing right in front of us.

"Oh yeah. I remember this one. It was one of the questions in math class. It's said to be at least 230 feet high," I said. "Wait, are you afraid of heights?" I remember the first thing she had listed in her notebook. Number one: ride the Behemoth.

"Pfft, no. What's there to be scared of?" she said getting all flustered. I chuckled a bit by how nervous she looked. I probably shouldn't have done that. The next thing I knew, she was punching me in the stomach.

"So, how about you ride it with me?" I asked. Even though I could tell she was scared, she should face her fears.

Fine. Why don't we make this interesting. We'll go on as many rides as we can and whoever backs out first gets to be the winner's slave for one day," she said sticking her hand out.
"You're on!" I said, shaking her hand confirming the bet. After several minutes of waiting in line, it was finally our turn. Taking our seat in the cart, we buckled our seatbelts and got ready for the ride.

"OK! I give up! I don't want to do this anymore!" she said to me.

"Too bad! Anyways, we're already strapped. We're about to leave any second," I replied. I took out my hand and placed it in hers. "Don't worry. I'm going to be right here next to you. We're here to have a good time, remember? Let's make some memories." Right when I was done talking, we were already taking off. Up and down, left and right, the coaster went everywhere. I could hear Carter yelling the whole time. Although, I wouldn't know how she looked through my closed eyes. After the dreedful three minutes and ten seconds passed, the ride was finally over. Right beside me was a smiling Carter yelling at the top of her lungs how fun it was. Was it just me or was the ground rotating?

"Hey, Zelo. The ride's over. Don't tell me you're going to give up now?" said Carter pushing me out of the cart.

"What? I don't think so. Bring on the rides!" I said. I didn't want to do this anymore but seeing her smiling face was a reward. After riding the Shockwave (who would want to be spun every possible angle while restrained?), the Time Warp (you do not want to ride a rollercoaster face-first), and the Flight Deck (who ever thought of an inverted rollercoaster?) I had had enough.

"That's it. I'm done. I need to sit down for a sec," I said sitting down on the closest bench.

"Really? Then I won?" asked Carter through breaths. Even she was exhausted. "Yes! You will be my slave! Bow down to me!" she yelled.

"Gosh, you don't have to rub it in my face," I said. Looking back at her, her face was even paler than it was before. "Hey, are you sure you're okay?"

"Oh, yeah, I'm fine. I'm just going to go and buy a bottle of watter. Do you want anything? You look pretty sick yourself."

"No, it's okay." It was already dark now. The stars were out accompanied by a full moon. How wonderful would it be to be here with a girlfriend? Maybe...

Just then, Carter came back holding her bottle of water. I was glad to see some colour in her face. "Do you want to just walk around for a while?" she asked.

"Yeah, sure," I said. Passing by the numerous couples, I couldn't help but feel jealous.

"Oh my gosh, no way," said Carter shocked.

"Why, what's wrong?" I asked.

"You'll never believe this. Apperently, Lewis won Alexandra a bunch of stuffed animals. Can you believe it? Lewis did something nice." she said showing me the picture Alex sent of her, Lewis and the animals.

"You're kidding me." This was amazing. I don't even think he's done something this nice for me, Damian, and everyone else. Either he's really happy being to an amusement park for the first time, or he maybe, just maybe, likes Alex? "Oh yeah? Well, I could win one too." I said walking towards the closest booth.

"Hello sir. Would you want to win a lovely stuffed animal for your girlfriend? All you have to do is shoot ten baskets in a row. It's just $5, " said the booth master.

"Oh, she's not my-" I began to say only to be cut off by Carter.

"No, I'm not his girlfriend," she said. "Can you win the owl for me?"

"Oh, yeah. Sure." I payed the man the money and tried my best to shoot. Luck was on my side as I was able to shoot all ten baskets.

"So, what would you like?" asked the man. Asking for the owl, He handed it to me.

"What are you going to name it?" I asked.

"Hedwig," she said. "I love the Harry Potter series. Now when I go home and wear my glasses, I could act like Harry Potter!"

"So, did I help you forget?" I asked.

"Forget what?" she said smiling. Then, from the left, we could hear screaming.

"Oh, my goodness! What is he doing over there?" yelled a woman pointing to the ferris wheel. As we got closer, we could see a huge crowd of people gathering at the bottom of the wheel. Looking up at the ferris wheel was a man climbing out of his passenger car towards the top of the wheel.

Lewis' P.O.V.

Without even thinking, I held onto Alexandra's hand the entire time. I don't know if I'm starting to like her of I'm just too happy being here. It didn't matter though. I don't think I would let go of her hand anytime soon.

"Thanks for winning all these stuffed toys for me," said Alexandra holding the toys with her other hand.

"Did you think I played the games for the prizes?" I asked.

"Let me guess. You played it because you wanted to win," she said laughing. We finally made it to the ferris wheel. "Oh! Can we go one that ride? I've always wanted to go there!" she said jumping up and down. Pulling me towards the ride, we got into our seats. Little by little, we made our way to the top.

"Wow, the view is so beautiful," she said. I looked at her, her eyes were sparkling in awe.

"I know," I responded. "Why are you so nice to me?" I blurted out.

"Do I have a reason to be mean to you?" she asked.

"I know that I'm not the nicest person. Scratch that. I may be the worst person there is. Sometimes I don't even know why the guys are still friends with me."

"Well, I think that there's a least a little bit of good in everyone. As long as you're nice to people, I hope that they'll be nice back. Maybe that's why the guys are still with you. They think that they'll be able to change you."

"But it's so hard. Everytime I thing about something, I always see the negative about it. Then it just comes out of my mouth and I end up hurting someone. I want to change. I want to so badly it hurts," I said. Already at half the height of the wheel, I could see my house from here. I didn't want to go back home.Taking a deep breath, I continued. "All my life, I've been told to be the best there is. And all my life, I've been compared to my siblings. There's so much on my shoulders that I feel like I'm going to collapse."

She released my hand she was directly facing me. "If you want to change, just take it little by little. Stress can be the death of us all. The thing is, you want help but you're not asking for it. Your friends have been by your side the whole time with their hands held out for you. All you need to do it reach out for it." I searched her eyes for reassurance. She was right. Looking at her, I saw how her hazel eyes glowed behind her thick glasses. How her long brown hair would manage to find it's way out of her hair tie. How she lost the smile she had from earlier.

"Ok, I'll start now. Alexandra, I think you look most beautiful when you smile," I said lifting my hands up and lifting the corners of her mouth. We had finally reached the top. Suddenly, we heard shouts and screams from the crowd below pointing to the top of the ferris wheel. We looked around and saw a man standing right beside us.

"Shut up! Shut up! Let me die!" yelled the man inches away from the edge of the ferris wheel.
