Locked Out Of Heaven

Who would have thought that missing a flight would lead to the best Valentines Day ever?

Liam planned on keeping his eyes closed all ten hours of the flight from London out to California, right up until the moment when the wheels of the plane touched down in Los Angeles. For some reason he missed the flight the rest of the boys took earlier this morning and had to take another one.

An arm brushed against his, and Liam opened his eyes. He was face to face with a brown-eyed, brown-haired girl who appeared to be his age. “Sorry,” they both said at the same time, each retreating a few inches on either side of the plane’s armrest. Deciding he may as well get to know the girl beside him because the would sit beside each other for another seven hours, leaning towards her, he said „I'm Liam.“

Charlotte,“ she says softly, in what Liam guessed must be a German accent, „Call me Charlie.“

“You’re not from England, are you?” he asked.

Charlie shook her head and smiled, „I'm from Germany but it's easier to fly from London to Los Angeles.”

Liam nodded, there was something about this girl he found interesting or maybe it was just the fact that he was alone, on a plane, on Valentine's Day.

“I take it you stay in Los Angeles for a while?” Charlie asked. “Yes.” Liam says the word slowly, almost adds, “I'm in a boyband and we have a concert” but holds back and says “For work” instead. He wasn't sure if Charlie didn’t knew that he was a famous boyband member or if she simply didn't care. Either way, he wasn't in the mood to talk about it.

“What about you?” He asked and offered her a lazy smile, “Why are you heading to Los Angeles?”

“University” she said, fixing her eyes on his. “I'm a student at University of Los Angeles.”

He nodded again and they talked about everything they would think of until they both fell silent.

Liam focused on the brown and orange pattern on the cloth seat in front of him. His neck felt stiff from the long flight and his clothes had a strong airline smell. He need to move his feet for a bit, turning his head towards Charlie, he asked, “Would you mind letting me past?” in his thick British accent. Without saying anything Charlie got up from her seat and let him through. When Liam came back, ten minutes later, Charlie was already standing in the aisle waiting for him. Just when he was about to take a seat, the plane jerked heavily. They tumbled to floor and Liam found himself sprawled across Charlie, face-to-face, body-to-body. “Best Valentine's Day Ever” Liam says, smiling.
