1. bruise me with your words

This is the story of a family who use cracked bones as affectionate gestures, use bruises to heal wounds and muffling the words that scream out to be said but they decide against it. I see the panic in your eyes sometimes, when you stare blankly out of the window and forget I am there. ‘Off with the fairies,’ one might call it. What does that phrase even mean? I’m sure I’d much rather be in a mystical fairyland surrounded by glitter and wings and sparkle, than in this world.

The panic leaking out of your eyes tells the story of a lonely girl, scared and frustrated at the world she decided was set against her a long time ago, and now it’s too late to change it. She keeps running away until too many years have passed, too many anger-fueled letters and harsh words exchanged and she wants to forget it all, but she can’t. They say blood is thicker than water but what do you do when hatred boils your blood and causes an explosion the size of Mount Vesuvius?

This is the story of a family whose ‘Goodnight, I love you’ consists of a yelling match resulting in the pounding of heavy feet on the stairs and the slamming of multiple doors.

They say writers are best at writing about what they know, but I disagree. I think they write best about empathy, about raw emotion, about anything – and sometimes, they write to escape the world they live in because they can’t quite justify leaving.
