1. Normal Errands

I carefully opened the door to tip-toe my way inside my house. I figured my mother was probably asleep. I walked in and she was washing the dishes, seemingly trying to get every microscopic stain or germ off of each one.

“Hey, mom,” I said, grinning.

She took a few more seconds washing the precious dishes, making sure they were flawless, then looked up at me and returned my grin.

“Hey, honey, how was school?” she asked.

“Oh, it was fine. It usually is,” I replied, a little annoyed by the same question being asked every day.

I sat my backpack down on the table and began walking to the living room.

“Oh, wait!” my mother stopped me. “I need you to walk to the store for me and get these things,” she said, handing me a list.

“Can do,” I replied, stuffing the list in the pocket of my jacket.

I turned around and opened the door. I’d totally forgotten about the cold front, and it struck me like a bullet as soon as I hit the steps outside. I shivered and pulled my toboggan down further. I had my MP3 Player in my pocket, so I pulled it out and turned it on. I began frantically walking toward the street, and my phone beeped. I pulled it out to look. It was a text from my best friend, Michelle. I began to text her back, when I bumped into something – or someone – due to my lack of attention in front of me. The person in front of me had a phone too, so for the moment I tried to believe it wasn’t completely my fault.

“I’m really sorry,” I said.

I looked up. Now I really was sorry.
