8. Chapter 7

Louise thanked her father as she took the ice cream to her favourite customer. Before approaching the table, she paused and admired the couple. She was looking out the window while he was looking right at her.
After a minute, she shook the thoughts from her head and continued forward. She reached the table and smiled, placing the bowl between the couple and passing each a spoon. "Here you go, I made sure it was the best Dad could make." Louise stood straight and said "Enjoy." Before waltzing off to serve other customers and speak with her father.
Liam smiled at Danielle and scooped a large blob of ice cream onto the spoon before depositing it in his mouth, humming in approval. Once he swallowed, he said, "Yep, still the best ice cream I've ever had." Danielle smiled and took a smaller spoonful of ice cream and hummed in agreement.
"You're right, this is amazing ice cream." She commented. They both ate in silence, enjoying the beautiful scenery outside and the delicious ice cream.
"Are you excited about being Maid Of Honour?" Liam asked before eating another mouthful of the dessert.
"Yeah. I've never been Maid Of Honour before so I can't wait." Danielle had another spoonful of ice cream before asking, "What about you? What do you think about your sister getting married?"
"I'm a bit concerned that she's getting married this young." He said carefully. "But if she's happy, who am I to complain? Although I am worried that she might be making a mistake."
"I understand but you've seen Jamie and how they act together. She looks at him as if he's the most perfect thing in her life. And there's no doubt about Jamie's feelings towards Becca. The way he looks at her. It's different than anything that I've ever seen. He looks at her like she's his life source." Danielle spoke with a smile, confidence in her voice. Liam sighed and nodded.
"I know but I'm her brother. I have to worry about my baby sister." He admitted. Danielle nodded in agreement, knowing that Liam's concerns were completely rational.
After lying in bed together for a few hours, a familiar rumble vibrated through Rebecca's body. Rebecca's pale cheeks darkened to a rose pink as Jamie chuckled at the girl in his arms.
"Are you hungry, babe?" He asked, burying his nose into Rebecca's hair which was pale pink in colour and darkened to the normal black onyx tips. "Awww... Don't be embarrassed, babe." Jamie told his fiancée upon seeing the pink hair. It was the one main thing that Rebecca hated most about her new body. She could no longer hide her feelings because her hair showed it off to the world.
"Yeah, I am. Is there still some AB negative in the fridge?" She asked as she pushed herself out of Jamie's grip.
"Yeah, there should be. Could you grab me some too while you're up?" Jamie then produced an infamous puppy-dog face that he had been perfecting for many years.
"I don't know..." She teased, leaning against the door frame as she looked at him. "I was thinking of watching a film. You know, pass the time quicker?" She smirked and turned to walk out the door.
Jamie however had another idea as suddenly Rebecca was being lifted off the ground and flung over Jamie's shoulder. She shrieked and squealed, gently hitting Jamie's back as she cried to be let down.
"Hmmm.."Jamie mock-thought before saying, "Nope." He carried Rebecca to the living room and chucked her onto the sofa which caused the sofa to bounce and scrape along the wooden floor slightly.
Before Rebecca or Jamie could speak, there was the sound of banging from below their feet. Then there was the faint sound of an elderly woman's voice calling up, "Calm down, dearies. It's only 6 o'clock. Save those activities for when we're all asleep." Though the words sounded as thought they were mean, Jamie and Rebecca knew that the woman was only joking around with them.
Rebecca chuckled as she called out, "Sorry Mrs Carlings. Jamie's just being immature." She sent Jamie a look.
With their finely-tuned hearing, they heard the woman chuckling to herself and muttering, "Oh, kids these days."
Jamie shook his head with a chuckle, "Looks like our next dinner with her will be an interesting one." He commented.
"Looks like it." Rebecca agreed. She finished chuckling to herself before she got up and headed into the kitchen.
The kitchen had a modern design. Polished granite worktops and polished black-glass cabinets. She headed to an ordinary-looking cabinet and opened it to reveal a small fridge which only contained the sachets of blood that was usually found in hospitals.
She reached into the cool cabinet - though the temperature made no difference against her ice-skin - and examined the white labels on each of the bags. When she found the bag that said,
She smiled and tore the corner of the packet. She then poured the liquid, half into one glass cup and half into another. She picked both up and carried them through to the living room where Jamie was sat on the sofa, holding the Blu-Ray player remote.
She passed him his glass and took a seat next to him. "What're we watching?" She questioned.
"Doctor Who. Felt like it's been ages since I last watched it properly." He answered after taking a sip from his glass, giving himself a small red moustache. Rebecca giggled and kissed him, cleaning the blood from his upper lip.
"Great, I love Doctor Who." She placed her glass on the coffee table and cuddled up under Jamie's arm, leaning against him.
"I know you do." Jamie looked at Rebecca with a small smile before he leaned in a pecked her nose. She giggled quietly upon feeling the needle-point tip of his teeth.
"I love you." She whispered to him.
"I love you more." He told her as if stating a fact.
"That, my darling, is impossible because I love you more." She argued.
"You have no proof of your love. I, however, have perfect proof of my for you." Rebecca sent him a 'Try me' look. "Well, I have been on this Earth far longer than you have. I was alone for a lot of that time too and I was perfectly content with that. But then I met you and I just knew that I couldn't let you get away. So I claimed you and I made myself a vow that no matter what I would protect you, care for you and love you. Even if you didn't feel the same about me." Jamie spoke with confidence and a smile as he looked at the girl he loved.
"Alright, alright, you win." Rebecca said, defeated. "But I still love you, you know?"
"I do know," Jamie said with another peck to her nose. "and you know that I love you." Rebecca smiled and cuddled closer into her fiance. Their attention then turned back to the TV as they watched the show.
The couple then stayed there until the sun had set and the bright full moon had risen. Jamie was the first to move. He opened his eyes, awakening from his falsum somnis - False Sleep - and stretched as well as he could without waking the girl wrapped around him like a koala, in the middle of her longer falsum somnis. He smiled down at her and gently shook her shoulder.
"Babe, you'll hurt your neck if you sleep like that." He stated, carding his fingers through her hair. She stirred, her eyeballs skittering about beneath her lids. She moaned at the disturbance.
"No. I'm tired." She grumbled. Jamie understood where she was coming from. Newly-turned needed more falsum somnis than those older. He gently moved around the sleeping girl until he could stand up and take Rebecca with him. He carried the girl to their bedroom where he laid her under the duvet and tucked her in to continue her hibernation-like state.
He left the girl in the room and then went to the room which was a guest room but had been made into a study. He sat down behind the dark oak desk and grabbed the phone. He dialled a familiar number and raised it to his ear.
"Hello?" A frail-sounding voice asked.
"Ninia. It's James. How are you?" He questioned the old-sounding woman.
"My health is eternal and my mood is the same as it always is." The woman replied, her voice changing to a strong, sterner voice. "What are you calling to check up on, now?"
"Now now, Ninia. Don't lose your hair again." Jamie scolded gently. "I am just calling to confirm that the house shall be ready for next weekend. There must be enough food to comfortably feed about 10 humans. Becca and I shall need to eat as well so make sure that there is a supply of blood that is hidden well. I cannot have Rebecca's brother or his friends discovering it."
"Yes Yes, Mr McDonald. I have heard this all before and I understand. I shall have Ronald fill the cellar and I shall send Melissa to the local village to stock up on meats and vegetables. You do also realise that this will require sending for the Williams to return from their holiday. And they will not be happy."
"Yes, I understand. Just tell them that they shall get the next year off if they do this. They shall also be getting a pay rise or a bonus. I have not decided yet." He ordered through the phone. He was about to speak when a small, quiet creak echoed through the otherwise silent flat. "Ninia, I shall have to phone you back for I have a fiancée who has just woken from falsum somnis. Goodbye Ninia."
"Goodbye Sir." She told him before hanging up the phone. Jamie ended the call on his end and put the phone down just as the door opened and the head of Rebecca appeared around the edge of the door.
"Hey, you alright?" She asked as she pushed the door open further and walked in.
Jamie nodded, "Yeah, I was just checking that the house would be ready for next weekend. Speaking of which, do you know how they are getting up there?"
Rebecca searched her knowledge before shaking her head. "No, I don't. I would expect that they'd get a plane up to the nearest town and then maybe catch a taxi. Or we could go and pick them up?"
"I don't see a problem with that." He told her.
"Great, I'll text Liam tomorrow to let him know. It's just the weekend, right?" Jamie nodded in answer to her question. "Okay, that might be best." She grimaced at the picture that flashed into her head of what could happen if she lost control around her brother and his friends. Jamie recognised that look and speeded towards her.
He wrapped his arms around her waist and hugged her close to him. "Shhh..." He told her. "You won't lose control. You're stronger than you think you are."
They stood like that for hours. Him just whispering encouraging words into her ear. Her just listening, not completely believing him, unsure whether he was right.
