Afraid of Falling - Niall Horan Fanfiction

'Just keep running' I kept telling myself, ' just keep running and don't look back'. As I ran, I thought about the events of the last hour and felt my eyes begin to fill with small droplets of water before I ended up on the floor.

When 16 year old Tegan hides from her fears, she runs. But what will she do when she experiences a feeling completely new to her, a feeling that she doesn't quite understand, a feeling that her past makes her afraid of...

"What else can we do?" El asked as her head rested on Louis' shoulder, his arm wrapped round her rubbing her back comfortingly.

"We're gonna have to tell management." Liam sighed as he paced up and down the living room.

"But we can't, Tegan-" I began.

"He's right Niall." Zayn sighed, "We're not going to find her if we don't tell anyone. I'm surprised they haven't found out already."

Louis scratched the back of his head, a guilty look plastered all over his face, "Yeah, erm, we might have had to mention it to Paul; he noticed something was up, but he said he wouldn't mention anything as long as we're careful and didn't do anything stupid."

Liam nodded and sighed once more, clearly worried just like the rest of us. "I take it no one else wants to talk to management?" We stayed silent until Liam continued, "Guess its me then."

I buried my head in my hands as I listened intently to the sounds of Liam typing in management's number and pressing the call button, putting it on speaker and waiting anxiously for an answer.

  "Hello? Dean speaking."

"Hi Dean, its Liam."

"Ahh, Liam, how are you?"

"Listen, Dean. The boys and I need to speak to you about something..."

"I still can't believe they're making us do this when Tegan is missing." I sighed as Lou was fixing my hair, prepping us all to go on stage.

"Niall, don't work yourself up about it, they'll find her soon." Lou soothed, trying desperately to comfort us all.

"But they really don't give a shit about anyone unless they're earning money from them." I protested, "I really don't want to see her hurt again." I whispered, barely audible against the commotion around us. It was true though, just the thought of someone being able to hurt her was too much. I could feel the emotions building up inside me and very soon, I was going to crack and everything would spill over.

"Boys, your on in five!" An attendant called as Lou pulled me into a hug. "I know Niall. We are going to find her, I promise. Paul said he would do everything he can to help, and he means it. He can see it in your eyes just how much she means to you; and its not only him, I can see it and the boys can see it too." She whispered, making sure it was only me who heard her.

"Sixty seconds!" The attendant called again.

"Thanks." I mumbled to Lou as I pulled away from her embrace to take our positions at the side of the stage. I could hear the screams and chants of the hundreds of girls waiting for us, and so fiddled with my in-ears as I was handed a mic, the Irish flag stamped on the bottom of it.

"In 5,....4,....3,....2,....1....GO!" Mouthed the attendant preparing us to go on stage, revealing the awaiting crowd.

 Louis' POV:

... You know I’ll be Your life Your voice Your reason to be

My love My heart Is breathing for this

Moment In time I’ll find the words to say

Before you leave me today...

As the song finished, cheers echoed through the venue and we quickly began to regain our breath as all five of us gathered together at the front of the stage, Niall addressing our audience with shaky breaths.

"We only have a few songs left to perform now, but this next song is one I wrote last minute and it means a lot to me. This is, Truly, Madly, Deeply."

I felt bad for the kid, he wrote this song for Tegan and now he had to sing it while he had no idea where she was. To say he was taking it badly would be an understatement. Normally he was pretty strong, he could easily hide how he was feeling, but with Tegan it was so different. It showed how much he cared about her.

'Am I sleep, am I awake, or somewhere in between,

I can't believe that you are here and lying next to me,

Or did I dream that we were perfectly entwined,

Like branches on a tree, or twigs caught on a vine'

Then Niall began to sing;

'Like all those days and weeks and months I tried to steal a kiss

And all those sleepless nights and daydreams where I pictured this,

I'm just the underdog who finally got the girl

And I am not ashamed to tell it to the world.'

His voice began to get increasingly shakier, cracking as he sung the last line, his eyes beginning to well up and growing noticeably redder. As we all began to sing together, I made my way over to Niall and wrapped my free arm around his shoulders, trying desperately to comfort him.

'Truly, madly, deeply, I am

Foolishly, completely falling

And somehow, you kicked down my walls and

So baby, say you'll always keep me Truly, madly, crazy, deeply in lo-'

Niall had stopped singing. I turned my head to look at him; his face now hidden by his damp hand. I pulled my mic away from my face to avoid and unwanted listeners,

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"I-I can't do this Louis." He stuttered as he shook his head, his eyes puffy and the tears now streaming constantly down his face, before he ran offstage, leaving the venue audience stunned into silence.
