Afraid of Falling - Niall Horan Fanfiction

'Just keep running' I kept telling myself, ' just keep running and don't look back'. As I ran, I thought about the events of the last hour and felt my eyes begin to fill with small droplets of water before I ended up on the floor.

When 16 year old Tegan hides from her fears, she runs. But what will she do when she experiences a feeling completely new to her, a feeling that she doesn't quite understand, a feeling that her past makes her afraid of...

11. Eggs and Bacon

I sighed and pulled myself away from the thought, laughing quietly with the boys.

"Are you ok?" Liam whispered to me as Harry, Zayn, Niall and Louis continued with their hysterics.

"Yeah I'm fine" I forced a smile, trying to convince myself as well as Liam. His brow furrowed but said nothing more. Niall sighed and sat up whilst holding is side, recovering from his uncontrollable laughing fit. The rest of the boys followed suit immediately, still smiling.

"Who wants pizza?!" Asked Louis, a little over-enuthusiastically.

"Me!" Cried the rest of the boys in unison as they stood up and ran to the kitchen before pulling out a Domino's menu. I followed them into the kitchen and took a seat at one of the empty stools.

"What do you want?" Liam asked, holding a pen against a small piece of paper and his phone in the other.

"Meat feast and a Ham and pineapple!" Niall immediately announced, grinning from ear to ear. He looked so happy. No Tegan, you can't think about him.

"Ham and sweetcorn please!" Harry added.

"Margarita please!" Louis said with an Italian accent, pursing his lips and kissing his fingers.

"I'll have the same as Lou." Said Zayn.

"What about you Tegan?"

"Erm, I'll just have a pepperoni." I smiled.

I nodded as he began to dial the number. Liam ordered the pizzas, garlic bread, a ridiculous amount of dough balls and 2, 2 litre bottles of coke. Boy, could these boys eat. As Liam put the phone down, I stood up and walked over to the cupboard, pulling out a glass and filling it with water. As I lifted the glass to my mouth, I realised I was shaking; I couldn't stop thinking about seeing Niall and Louise. It shouldn't bug me, but it did, and now there's one thing I'm sure about; I'm falling for Niall Horan, and he liked someone else.

Niall's POV:

I squinted as I opened my eyelids, trying to adjust to the blinding light seeping through my curtains. I sat up and with difficulty and slowly ran through last nights events, piecing each memory together like puzzle pieces, the night becoming clearer and clearer, until the realisation hit. Louise kissed me, and Tegan saw. I collapsed back onto the bed, muttering cuss words under my breath. The one girl who I thought I might have feelings for, and I've gone and ruined any chances with her. Shit. I was going to have to do the only thing I could think of, and take Liam's advice; talk to her. I glanced over at the clock on my phone; 8:11. I sighed and slowly climbed out of bed, making my way towards my little en suite bathroom. I stepped in the shower and let the hot water hit my skin, trying to distract my thoughts away from Tegan; it didn't work.

After the long shower, I brushed my teeth before picking up a pair of chinos and a white polo, quickly pulling them on and running my hand through my hair.

As I began too walk down the hallway, the smell of bacon, eggs, sausages and pancakes drifted towards my nose, taking over the thoughts of Tegan running through my mind, leaving me focused on the food. I walked quickly into the kitchen and saw Liam standing at the oven where the heavenly smells were radiating from, Louis was peeling a banana, staring at it intently, and Harry and Zayn were pulling out plates from the cupboard, both of them in their boxers - of course Harry would be.

"Full English Niall?" Liam asked, turning his head towards me slightly, diverting his attention to me.

"I'd be lying if I said no." I grinned. Liam returned his attention back to the food and I took an empty seat at the island. We all either sat or stood in silence for a moment, listening to the sounds of the food frying, making my stomach feel emptier and emptier. The awkward atmosphere of the room was interrupted by a knock at the front door.

"Eleanor!" Louis cried, sprinting out of sight to the door. Moments later, Lou reappeared with El in tow.

"Hey El!" I chirped.

"Morning boys!" El replied as Louis returned to his banana. She pulled a chair up close next to mine and faced me.

"Niall, what happened last night? Tegan was in bits."

I looked round quickly to see if anyone else was listening and was relieved when no one was.

"Well...I...erm...Louise kissed me," I almost whispered, "...and Tegan saw."

"Did she say anything to you?"

"No, she just walked back into the house." By now I could feel my eyes beginning to well up at the thought of me causing Tegan pain. "I didn't want it to happen, Louise forced herself onto me. Liam said I should talk to her." I buried my head into my hands and El rubbed her hand on my back, trying to comfort me. There's the thing with El, she so kind and loving and always shows so much empathy towards people, she's the kind of person you can confide all of your feelings to and she wouldn't tell a soul. I quickly straightened up, not wanting to draw any unwanted attention to myself, especially not from the boys.

"Please don't tell any of the boys, only you and Liam know."

"I won't if you don't want me to, but you do need to talk to her." She reassured me and I nodded in response "I'm just going to get Tegan's washing, I've left it in the hallway."

"Tegan's washing?" Louis questioned, just as he finished his last mouthful of banana.

"Yes, her washing," El smiled, "I picked it up last night before I left, I wasn't exactly going to get done here was it!"

Louis went to open his mouth but was cut short by El.

"Rhetorical, Lou." El gave Louis a quick peck on the cheek before she went in search of Tegan's washing. Seconds after El left the room, Liam placed the plate of hot food in front of me along with a glass of water. I quickly looked up at Harry and Zayn, who were engulfed in their own conversation about tattoos from what I picked out, before placing a mouthful of delicious food into my mouth; Liam's cooking must have been something sent from the gods, it was so good! My thoughts were interrupted when Tegan walked slowly through the door, probably still trying to wake up.

"Full English or pancakes?" Liam asked her.

"Err....full English please?"

"Coming up!"

As Liam returned to his cooking, Eleanor returned holding a basket full of Tegan's clothes.

"I've washed your clothes and towels for you, is there anything else you need?"

"No, Thanks El."

"No problem."

Tegan's expression looked slightly suspicious. Steady on a bit El, not too obvious. Note the sarcasm.

"what are you up to today then?" Tegan asked, her morning voice flowing smoothly out of her perfect little mouth. I mentally slapped myself at that thought, could I get any cheesier?! I had it bad.

Louis flung his arms into the air, making me smile slightly, "DAY OFF! WAHEEY!"

Lou always could take absolutely anything, flip it upside down and turn it into something happy.

"Consisting of...?"

"Mostly Fifa"

"It's been donkeys years since I've played that!.....I bet I could whip all of your asses!"

My smile grew bigger when this cocky side of her surfaced, but the smile soon dissapeared when Harry stood up and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her off the stool towards the door. I could feel my face growing redder and redder, trying to catch Harry's attention and stare him down, to no avail. Again, my expression dissapeared when Tegan saw me staring at Harry. It was clear she liked him more than me.

"It's on!" Harry announced.

"Eugh Harry! I want breakfast first...and put some clothes on!" Tegan squirmed. Ugh, why does Harry always have to go after every girl he sees, especially this time, when he knows I actually like Tegan, and I don't want her getting hurt...

"Fine!" To my relief, Harry placed Tegan back on the ground next to her stool, motioning for her to take her seat, which she gladly did.

"One, full English breakfast for the lady." Liam announced, placing the plate of food in front of her.

"Thanks Liam"

"No problem." He replied, ruffling her hair.

After Tegan had finished her breakfast and headed to her room to shower, I stood up and cleared my plate before making my way into the living room where Louis was kneeling in front of the tv, setting up the PS3 and Eleanor was sitting on one of the sofas, watching him intently. I sat down on the couch opposite Eleanor and waited for the game to start.
