13. Anne

Harry dropped me off at my house two hours ago. I was sitting on my bed, texting him, and Liam.

What's up, beautiful? :)

Nothing much. Watching tv. Catching up on Glee.

Cool! I didn't know you watched Glee.

There's alot you don't know about me.

Oh, nothing.

Just don't worry about it, babe.

Sorry I have to go so soon, but my mum needs my help. Bye!

Bye :]

Harry had stopped texting me, because he had to go get boxes. I was going back to his house after school tomorrow to help him pack. Thursday, I was going to help him move in to his dorm.

Friday, we were painting, and I was staying the night there. His mum was leaving very soon. I felt so bad for him. He was going to be all alone, besides his sister, Gemma, but she was busy all the time.

He really only had me.

* * *

* Wednesday after school*

I was waiting for Harry outside on my porch. Today I was helping him pack. I saw his black car round the corner of my street. I stood up, and walked towards his car. I sat in the passenger seat.

"I like spending so much time with you." Harry smiled at me.

"Oh trust me. I do too." I chuckled.

"Hey, what are we gonna do after we finish packing my stuff?"

"Chill out at your house, I guess?"

"Well, you know your friend?"

"Which friend?"

"Um, I think Jen."

"Jen? Mrs. Wicker?"

"Yes! Her! Can we go back and visit her?"

"Sure." I was kind of happy Harry wanted to visit her. He must really like her.

"Cool." Harry pulled into his driveway.

"Why do you want to visit her, anyways?"

"I like her."

I smiled. He was so perfect.

* * *

We finished packing everything. It took forever, but it was done.

It was now six in the evening. We walked down the sidewalk to Mrs. Wicker's house.

When we reached the blue house, I noticed Harry smiling.

"Why are you smiling, Harry?"

"Oh. I'm not sure."

I laughed at him, and we knocked on the door. I heard Peanut's claws hitting the floor. I always heard the same thing. Peanut's claws, then Mrs. Wicker's footsteps.

I soon heard the footsteps. She cracked open the door.

"Yes. Hey, Mrs. Wicker."

She opened the door wider.

"Come on in. You too, Harry." She didn't seem like her usual self. I was a bit worried.

We sat down on the same, checkered, green couch. Mrs. Wicker always sat on the right at the end, and I sat next to her in the middle, and  now, Harry sits on my left.

We sat in a comfortable silence for a moment, then I broke it.

"Mrs. Wicker?" I asked. Now I knew something was wrong.

"Hmm?" She looked up at me.

"What's wrong?"

"Oh, nothing. I just feel a little ill. I think I've got a cold." She sniffled.

"Do you need us to get you anything?"

"No, I'm fine. Really."

"You sure?" Harry joined in.

"Yes, but you should probably go, so you don't catch nothing."

"Oh, sure. We'll leave you alone." I said, as I stood up.

"Hope you feel better, Mrs. Wicker." Harry hugged her, and kissed her cheek.

"Yes, please feel better." I hugged her as well.

We left her house. I had felt dpressed, which was weird, because everytime I come out of Mrs. Wicker's house, I'm happy, and confident. Today, I knew something was wrong. I was worried, but left it alone. Whatever it was, Mrs. Wicker could beat it.

She was strong.

Harry must've noticed my depressing look.

"You alright, love?" He asked, staring at me. I continued to watch the ground.

"Worried, that's all."

"Me too, Kay." He embraced me in a hug. After he let go of me, we continued walking to his house.

* * *

Harry and I were sitting on the couch in his flat. It was now around 7:30.

"When do you have to leave?" Harry asked, as the television screen flashed.

"Not soon, I hope." I said.

"I don't want you to go."

"I don't want to go."

"My mom's going to be home in about 8 minutes."

When he said that, I instantly wanted to leave. I didn't want to meet his mom yet.

I knew if I met his mom, that means she would get hurt by my secret too. Even if she was leaving, I wasn't ready to meet her.

"Do you want me to take you home?" Harry asked, probably noticing my worried expression.

"I-I'm sorry. I'm just not ready to-."

He cut me off.

"I know. You can just hide upstairs, though. Until she goes to bed." Harry suggested. I laughed, and shook my head no.

"Why not?"

I thought about it. It could actually be really fun.

"Maybe.. where will I hide?"

"In my room."

"Will I be alone?"

"Not the whole time."

"Okay. Let's do it." I laughed.

"Um. You should probably go hide now. My mom's in the driveway." Harry pointed out the window.

I took off up the stairs. I ran up to Harry's room, and closed the door. Harry stayed downstairs. We were going to make hiding from his mom a game.

I heard the front door open, and  a woman's voice.

"Harry, what have you done all day?" His mom asked him.

"And you already finished?"

"How on earth did you do it by yourself in a day?"

"I, um, worked fast?"

"Okay. Don't be lying to me, boy." His mom chuckled.

"I'm not."

"Well good. I brought a movie."

"What's it called?"

"Um. Safe Haven."

"Love movie?"

"Yes sir. You wanna watch it with me?"

"Um.." I heard Harry hesitating. I knew he wanted to come up here with me.

"Hello? Wanna watch it?"

"I'll watch some of it."

"No. Just go do your thing. But I do have a question."

"What is it?"

"Have you met any girls at college?"

"Uh. N-no." He lied, but only half way. He had met a girl, just not at college.

"Liar. What's her name?"

"I haven't met anyone." Harry said nervously.

"Boy, stop lying. Who is she?"

"Just a friend."

"Name please."

This dummy used Taylor's best friend's name. I'm going to kill him.

"Can I meet her?"

"No. She died."

I started cracking up. I tried to control it, but I just got louder.

"Do you hear that?" My mom asked.

"No. What?" I knew what it was. Kayla was laughing at what I said. I recognized her laugh anywhere.

"Laughter? A girl's laughter." My mom said.

"Um. Maybe it's Beth's ghost." I joked. Kayla's laughter grew louder. She heard what I said.

I started laughing too. It was hilarious.

"Why are you laughing??" My mom aksed, confused.

I calmed down, and looked at her.

"Oh.. no reason." I busted out laughing again.

My mom began to laugh with me.

*10 minutes later*

My mom was laying on the floor, and I was on the kitchen table. We finally calmed down after laughing.

"What were we even laughing at?" My mom asked, breathing heavily.

"I have no idea." I chuckled, catching my breathe.

"Alright. I'm gonna watch this movie now. See you in the morning." My mom kissed me as I got off the table.

I told her goodnight, and walked upstairs.

I knocked on my bedroom door. "Come in." I heard Kayla's voice.

I opened it up, and walked in. Kayla was sitting on my bed texting.

"Who ya textin'?" I asked, hopping on the bed.

"My mommy. She said I can stay the night, as long as I get to school."

I grinned from ear to ear.

"It's only 8:17."

"What should we do?" She asked, looking at me. She was so perfect.

"I don't know."

We both sat in silence.

I had an idea.

"Dance with me?"

"There's no music."

I stood up, and held my hand out for her to grab.

She held it, and I helped her stand up.

We danced like we did in her kitchen the night of our first date.

All of a sudden, my television flicked on by itself.

"A Thousand Years" bye Christina Perri played. How did my television just turn on by itself?

Kayla was staring at the screen.

I looked down at her, very confused.

"Thanks Charlie." She whispered.

I looked at the screen where she was looking. There was a glare, and you could barely see it, but there was a young boy in the glare.

He looked about twelve.

I smiled at the glare. "Thanks." I whispered.

Kayla looked up at me. "Did you see him?"

I nodded, smiling.

We continued to dance, thanking God that we have each other.

* * *

I dropped "Taylor" off at school. She had on my clothes. I didn't really think people would notice it was a boy shirt.

Taylor normally didn't dress like that. She was more like skirts, and turtlenecks, but not today.

Today, I was moving my stuff into my dorm.

I decided to do it while Kayla was in school, so we could just hang out after school. Her mom said she could'nt stay the night tonight though.

I arrived at university, and began putting boxes in my dorm room. I had a huge surprise for Kayla today.

* * *

Thursday. One day to Friday.

I sat in eighth period, dying of boredom. I was sitting next to Liam.

He was holding my hand, and I was thinking about Harry.

I looked over at Liam. "Yeah?"

"What are you thinking about?"

"My mom."

"What about her?"

"We're growing apart."

It was true. I wasn't thinking about my mom, but we were growing apart.

It was bad. I barely had a relationship with her anymore, because I was always to busy living three lives.

"That sucks. Do you know why you're growing apart?"

"Oh.. uh.. no."

"Oh. I'm sorry. That must be tough."

"It is, Liam."

The bell rang, and I fled school. I had to ride the bus, but I was getting off at Harry's house.

I sat on the bus for ten minutes, then we stopped in front of Harry's house.

"Bye Taylor." Beth waved.

"Bye. See you tomorrow!" I stepped off the bus, and ran up to Harry's door.

I knocked louder than I probably should have. The door opened slowly.

Harry appeared in the doorway.

"Hola." I smiled. He chuckled.

"I already put the boxes in my dorm."

"So we can just spend time together."

"Good reason." I smirked.

"Yes, yes it is." (Phineas and Ferb. LOL. I crack myself up.)

"Soooooo? What should we do?" I asked, fiddling with my keys.

"I have a surprise."

"What is it?"

"You'll see."

"Okaaayy. I'll just wait here."

With that, Harry closed the door, and went off to set up my surprise.

* * *

I have been waiting for ten minutes. I heard whispering behind the door, then the doorknob turning.

"It's ready." Harry smiled. He helped me up, then put a blindfold on me.

He led me to the couch,a nd sat me down. I heard footsteps, and a familiar voice. It wasn't Harry's, but I'd heard it before.

"Harry, are you there?" I asked. I was sort of scared.

"You can star now." I heard Harry say.

I felt Harry sit next to me. He intertwined our fingers, and I heard a guitar begin to play.

I recognized the tune. It was "Kiss Me" bye Ed Sheeran. It was me and Harry's song.

I thought it was just the radio.

"It's our song." I said.

"Yes, but look."

Harry took off the blindfold to reveal a redhead with a guitar.

I immediately knew who it was.

In front of me was Ed Sheeran. The ginger Jesus.

I contained my scream, and just stared at him. He began to sing "Kiss Me", and I almost died.

I melted, but then I really did die.

Harry began to sing with him, and they harmonized.

I thought I was actually dead.

Harry and Ed's voices sounded perfect together.

When they finished, I couldn't speak.

"H-how, but, he, and , you, and I, just, ugh, Ed, you, and." I tried to breath.

"You ok, love?" Ed asked, looking at me like I was crazy.

I quickly fixed myself.

"I'm good. That was amazing."

"Thankyou. Harry you weren't kidding when you said she was gorgeous." Ed smiled at Harry.

"Harry. Thanks for this."

Harry smiled, and whispered in my ear.

"Take off the wig."

His voice gave me shivers.

"I can't."

"Take off the wig." He repeated. I hesitated, but slowly lifted my hand to take it off.

I pulled it off, and my real hair fell down.

Ed just smiled. "Nice to see the real you." He kissed my cheek.

"I've really gotta go." Ed sighed.

"It's fine. Ed, thanks for this. I'll have to pay you back."

"No worries. I did this 'cause I know how much you like her." Ed winked at me, and walked out the door.

"Harry, how did you manage to do this?"

"I've known him for awhile." Harry smiled.

I stood up, and kissed him. I wrapped my arms around his neck, and he instantly hugged my waist.

I surprised him with the kiss, but he kissed me back.

He was the best boyfriend ever. I was so lucky.

After the kiss, we stood there hugging. Never wanting to let go.

"Harry?" I said, my voice muffled because my face was cuddled into his neck.

"Yes, Kay?" He asked, playing with my hair.

"I love you." I finally said it. I was worried he wouldn't say it back.

"I love you too, Kayla."

I smiled wide. I couldn't contain it.

"I was worried you wouldn't say it back." I said.

"Don't worry about that. I'll love you for a thousand years."

"I'll love you for a thousand more." It was cheesy, but accurate. I wanted to be with him the rest of my life.

This boy made everything fall into place. He made it feel right.

He made my heart beat ten times faster than it should.

Nobody could take him away from me. Nobody.

My thoughts were interupted by the door opening. Before Harry's mum could see me, I hid in the kitchen.

Harry laughed, but quickly stopped when his mum came in.

"Hey mum." He smiled. He's such a cupcake.

"Hey. What are you doing?"

"Um. Chilling."

I giggled, but stopped.

"Child, where did I go wrong with you. I swear, you're crazy." His mum laughed.

His mom walked into the kitchen. I was in the closet, lookng through a crack in the door.

She sat down at the table.

Harry sat with her.

"Harry, I need to ask you something."

"Will you move to L.A. with me?"

It felt like my heart exploded. He couldn't leave.

"I don't want to be alone."

"Oh...I can't just leave university." Harry said.

"You can. You can start over in L.A."

"I can't. I have so many friends, and people that I love here." Harry quickly glanced at the closet.

"Like who?"

'Well, Gemma. Um. Um. Beth.." Harry trailed off.

"That's it?"

"No it's not. And Beth isn't real."

"How do you know?"

"She died." His mom chuckled.

"Okay. Beth isn't real. But I just can't leave."

"Who is she, Harry?"

"Who, mum?"

"The girl you can't leave."

"Mum, nobody. I'm not with anyone."

"Yes you are. Stop lying. I can tell."

"How do you know?"

"The way you smile at your texts, the way you sing the same song everyday, the way you daydream, she's all you think about. Who is she?"

"Mum! I'm not dating right now."

"Harry! I know you're dating someone."

"I'm not!"

It was silent for a moment.

"Kiss me, like you wanna be loved..." His mom sang quietly.

Harry looked up at her.

"That's the song you always sing. Is that ya'll's song?"

"Yes.." Harry said quietly. I could tell he didn't mean to.

"Tell me her name, baby. Please."

"Kayla. Kayla Devine."

"Devine...Devine..Devine... can I meet her?"

"Not yet."

"She's here now, isn't she?" Hsi mom smirked.

"Uh..n-no. She's at home."

"I'm gonna go find her." His mom stood up, and headed to Harry's room.

Harry opened the closet door.

"I'm sorry. I don't know how she knows you're here." Harry whispered.

"It's ok. Just go. If she finds me, I'l act normal."

Harry nodded, then went back to his seat at the table.

His mom came back in the kitchen and sat down.

"Can't find her." She mumbled.

"Oh well."

She looked at the closet, then back at Harry.

"Found her." She stood up,a dn walked towards the closet. She opened it to reveal me sitting on the floor, with my knees brought up to my chest.

She smiled at me.

"Hello Kayla." She helped me up.

"I'm Anne."

"Nice to meet you." I said, awkwardly.

"You can make him so happy." She said.

Harry looked at me, smiling.

He stood up, and went behind me. He wrapped his arms around my waist, and laid his head on my shoulder.

"He makes me just as happy." I put my hands on top of his.

"I can tell." Anne chuckled.

"I love you." Harry whispered in my ear.

"I love you too." I whispered in his ear.

"Who said "I love you" first?" Anne asked.

"Me." I laughed.

"Harry was too scared!" Anne teased.

"Was not!"

We all laughed. HIs mom was awesome, and I felt like she was family.
