Ericka's Opus: The Journey of Discovering Myself

Ericka Madison Horan. The 15 year old daughter of Niall Horan and Olivia Horan (former Carsons/Clifton). Only child, plays soccer like her mom and writes music like her dad. When she was about 8, she's been working on composing one of the greatest opus of all time, and hasn't stopped since. Most would say that's something a prodigy would do, but it's her past time. But when something from the past comes up that could change her life, Ericka realizes that life is not just about the music, it's about the journey. (Third installment of Start of Something New trilogy)

2. The everday life of a Horan

*Fifteen years later*

<Ericka POV>

"Ericka, honey!" My mother called from downstairs. I toss and turn in my sleep, not wanting to get up.

"Mom, give me another ten minutes." I say in my sleep.

"Okay. I'll just give your father the pancakes I made for you for the last day of school."

I jolt up, papers flying everywhere. All of those papers were my plans for the one and only "Ericka Horan Opus". I've been wanting to do an opus for about eight years now, and it's a lot of hard work. It tends to be too much for me sometimes. I mean, I love music. Music is my passion, along with soccer. But sometimes I feel like I want to give up on the whole opus thing and actually have a social life. Eh, I have summer vacation.

So I get up and get ready. I brush all the tangles out of my long, straight, brown hair with pink dip dyed hair. I braid it into a nice fishtail braid, and throw on some foundation and a bit of mascara. I rarely wear any makeup. I put on my Rocky River High School Pirates soccer t-shirt, with my last name "Horan" on the back, shorts, flip flops, and head downstairs. Oh, and I live in Rocky River, Ohio.

When I get there, My dad is teasing me with my pancake plate. "DAD! GIVE ME MY CHOCOLATE CHIP PANCAKES!" He pushing me away keeping the plate a far distance away from me.

"Ericka, you have to except the fact that I too have to have food." Yeah, that goes to the dad who makes mom go to the grocery store every week to fill the fridge when it's already full. "But since it's your last day at school, I'll give it to you." He hands me the plate and leaves the house to go to work. I scarf down the chocolatey goodness, and I finish just in time to hear the car horn honk.

"Jarret's here. Tell him I said have a good day." Mom said and just like that, I grab the last pancake, my bag, and I'm out the door. In the driveway, I see the car of my friend, Jarret Styles, waiting for me. Jarret is this really cute guy who moved from England a few months ago. He lives down the street and he's super nice. We call each other by our last names, and we're really competitive. I never met his family, and he's never met mine. So we're even on something.

"C'mon, Horan!" He yells. "We don't want to be late on the last day of Prison!"

"I do want to be late, Styles!" I reply and hop into the car.

"Yeah, yeah. Same old Ericka Horan always wanting to be late, when she never will be."

"Shut it!" I yell. He puts his hands up in surrender, then roll his eyes and pulls out of the driveway.

We were almost to the school, then Jarret asks, "Hey, so my parents were wondering when they were going to meet you cause I talk about you a lot. So I was wondering if you wanted to come over to my house for dinner tonight?"

I think for a minute, then answer, "Sure thing. My parents are going to a charity event at Slippery Rock University, so I can just go over."

We reach the school, and we exit the car. "Oh, and Styles, I don't need a ride afterwards today. I'm walking home afterwards. So see ya in a few hours."

"Yeah. See ya soon, Horan."

~10 hours later~

I got back from school (YES! FREEDOM!) and I'm currently waiting on my front porch for Jarret to pick me up. Even though he lives just down the street, he insisted on driving me back to his house.

My parents just left for the charity event, leaving me alone with the dog, Hadyen. She's a yellow lab. I changed because Jarret told me to look fancy, so I'm currently wearing this nice yellow tank top with a black peter pan collar, hollister shorts, and my nice pair of white sandals. The shorts, I pulled out of the back of mom's closet.

HONK HONK! The sound of Jarret's car really annoys me.

I get up, leaving Hayden to lie down on the porch, and head for Jarret.

He whistles as I step in. I punch him in the shoulder and he winces. "Suck it up." I tell him.

"Sorry, it's just...I've never seen you like this before. Your outfit, your hair is curled, and OHMYGOD YOU'RE WEARING MAKEUP!?"

I roll my eyes. I never wear any makeup. "Just drive, Styles, before I hit you in the place I've been wanting to hit you."

He puts the car into drive and starts to head to his house. This is going to be an interesting night.
