The Words He Whispered

When Sadie West, ordinary 16 year old girl from Seattle, gets a text from her cousin to spend the summer with him and his friends, she's thrilled. Why wouldn't she be-when her cousin is THE Louis Tomlinson of One Direction, and she'll be spending two months with the boys! Little does she know, things are about to get a lot more complicated in the romance department...

7. Sadie

I couldn't help it; I justed crashed. My world started spinning as I remembered him advancing toward me, the stink of beer on his breath, the glint of the knife-no, Sadie, stop it, I reminded myself. My scar felt like it was throbbing. Your safe, I told my brain, but I couldn't shake the fear that had awoken in my heart. I turned my thoughts to Harry, the way his green eyes were so full of concern for me. I think I might have fallen in love with him, had I been another girl with another past. But love can be dangerous. Love can hurt. Ok, well, thinking of Harry obviously didn't work. Niall? I recall him watching me at dinner, and only eating three servings, instead of the four or five I know he could probably eat. And I saw him staring again, during Toy Story, although he quickly turned away when he saw I noticed him. Oh, and Zayn. He was so sweet, helping me with the art project, coming with me as I went crazy with the freedom and lightness of it all. I sighed as I climbed into bed, wearing my purple plaid pj pants and a tank top. I tried and tried to doze off, but a single thought kept me awake. Louis. Why on earth was he acting so strange? When Zayn went to come sit by me for the movie, Louis shoved him out of the way and plopped down instead. When Ni went to make popcorn, and I offered to help and monitor him, Louis absolutely wouldn't let me! Then it hits me. Lou still feels responsible for the accident. For my scar. A wave of understanding washes over me. Lou's trying to protect me from another heartbreak, and he feels like the only way to do that is keep all the boys away from me. Well, he shouldn't have to worry, and I make a mental note to tell him that. The physical scars, though deep and still painful, and nothing compared to the wounds on my soul.

"Time to get up!" I hear a voice saying in a cute Irish accent. "Don't make us jump!" he warned.

"I'm awake, Niall, you doofus." I groaned, shoving my pillow in his face. When I heave open my eyes, five pairs of eyes are staring right in my face. "Aggh!" I screamed in surprise, then smack them all with my pillow.

"Sadie, it's almost noon!" Zayn announces. That wakes me up.

"Yup" he says with a pop.

"Gosh, I'm gettting up," I moan, swinging my legs out of bed.

"We saved you some spaghetti," Harry said.

"Spaghetti?" You ask, utterly confused.

"Well, since we had pancakes for dinner, I thought spaghetti for breakfast would be appropriate.

"Weirdo," I say affectionately, pulling one of Harry's curls on the way to the bathroom. I pull on a simple hoodie (one of Louis') and frayed jean shorts that cut off mid-thigh. When I arrive downstairs, a heaping plate of spaghetti is set before me by Louis, and he sits down by me.

"How'd ya sleep, cuz?" Louis asked

"Fine," I lied, remembering what I needed to tell Louis. "Oh, and Lou,"

"Well, I see what you're trying to do," I say cautiously. Louis knows what I'm talking about.

"Sadie, I-" he begins, but I cut him off.

"You don't need to worry about me getting my heart broken again. I learned my lesson with... him." I spit out the 'him', as I vowed never to say his name again.

"Sadie, I just feel responsible and-"
"Lou, you shouldn't feel responsible. It wasn't your fault." I soothe

"But it was," he said miserably "I should have protected you, but I couldn't. I didn't" I sigh and take his hand.

"I can watch out for myself, 'kay Boo?" I say with a weak smile.

"'Kay," he responded, and left the room.
