The Words He Whispered

When Sadie West, ordinary 16 year old girl from Seattle, gets a text from her cousin to spend the summer with him and his friends, she's thrilled. Why wouldn't she be-when her cousin is THE Louis Tomlinson of One Direction, and she'll be spending two months with the boys! Little does she know, things are about to get a lot more complicated in the romance department...

8. Niall

Ok, I was jealous that Harry had gotten to Sadie first, but really, I cursed myself inwardly. The next morning, I tried to make myself noticeable. "Time to get up!" I nearly shouted. "Don't make us jump!"

"I'm awake, Niall, you doofus," she moaned, and I swear, when she said my name, called me doofus, more than butterflies erupted in my stomach. I had a whole zoo in there! I laughed when she saw us all and shrieked, then smacked us with a pillow for good measure. When she headed to bathroom to change, I trotted down the stairs and crashed on the couch. I had been awake for hours doing absolutely nothing, and I felt like I was going insane. I sat for a few minutes, hearing hushed voices behind the kitchen door, and then, when the voices stopped, announced, "I'm going for a walk! Be back in a bit!" As I pulled on my shoes, Sadie appeared in the doorway.

"Can I come too?" she inquired shyly.

"Of course!" I said, trying not to sound too eager. Which I probably failed at, but whatever. We walked along the beach for sometime. Honestly, it was fun just watching Sadie. She'd flit along the beach, racing ahead to collect shells and whatnot, and then seem to remember me, and come running back over. Then, a few minutes later, she'd start all over again. I found myself laughing.

"What's wrong?" She asked innocently.

"Oh. nothing's wrong. It's just awesome to see you having so much fun!" I answered truthfully, twisting her hair, which was flowing loose. Sadie gave me a warm smile, and slipped her delicate hand into mine. Omigosh, ohmigosh, did she like me? I saw her grin up at me, swinging her arms, and I knew we were just friends, nothing more. Yet. When she turned away, I saw something I hadn't noticed before. A long, jagged, scar that ran across her back and under her shirt. She caught me staring at it and pulled her hair over the scar, covering it completely. Her eyes dared me to ask about it, and I didn't. I knew when a girl wanted privacy, but curiosity ate at me like... well, like a me. We stopped when we reached the cove that Sadie seemed to have visited before. She ran around, showing me the various creatures that dwelled in the tide pools, when I slipped on a wet rock and fell. My hand began bleeding, and I saw a long cut on it. Sadie was by my side instantly, washing it gently with fresh water from her water bottle, and wrapping it up with fabric she tore from her own ragged tee.

"There," she said softly, looking into my eyes. My heart melted looking into those gorgeous pools of blue. She pulled me up, and we made our way towards the cabin.

On the way back, Sadie told me more about her life. She opened up about her Directioner friends, school, and her family. I learned she had a two year old sister named Kaylee that they had adopted through a foster program, and that her father was always away on business. When I asked if she had a boyfriend, she stopped dead in her tracks.

"Niall," she said shakily

"Yes?" I replied, concerned.

"I need to tell you something... and you have to keep it from the boys," She murmured "Until I'm ready to tell them,"

"Ok," I said.

"I don't have a boyfriend," Sadie began "Because the last time I had one, he gave me my scar."
