10. Promises Were Meant To Be Broken

I awoke suddenly, forgetting where I was. The pain medicine was finally worn off. Slowly, I pulled the covers off my legs and stepped onto the floorboards, focusing on a white note taped to my light blue wall. I walked over to it, running my pointer finger and middle finger along the photographed memories that plastered my walls, with little color beneath them showing.

The note was folded in half and had blue lines crossing it horizontally. It was ripped out of some notebook and I quickly realized where it had come from - my diary. My panic faded as I remembered my trust for him, for Niall.. Niall.. Niall! He promised that he wouldn't leave. He promised. My trust suddenly began shrinking.

I snatched the note and felt it crumble under the pressure of my hand. I read the note silently in my head:

I'm so sorry that I broke my promise. I stayed the night, I swear, until the sun arose and brought a small, dim light through the curtains."

There were tear stains on the note.

"I'm going to England, for my career. I hope you understand. I'll miss you greatly and it's hard to imagine my life without you. Since life without you, will in fact be impossible, I want to invite you to meet me here. Look underneath my pillow, there is.."

Without finishing the sentence, I dashed across my bedroom, looked under the pillow, and held a British Airways ticket against my chest as it rose and fell quickly. I slowly tiptoed to the note, which I had dropped. I picked it up and continued reading.

".. an airfare ticket for you to fly to me. I'll be waiting for you."

I read the least part aloud.

"I love you more than anything, Alanna. I miss you already. I'll see you soon. Singed, Niall"
