Kiss and Tell

Emily just thought she was going to your average One Direction concert.
Emily just thought wrong.

Emily's 18, and when she and her best friend Jenny turn up to a 1D concert to find it's cancelled, they aren't pleased. All too fast, they're sharing a hotel with the boys, and Jenny's changed. Drastically. They discover parites, clubs, drugs and fame. Jenny's going off the rails, hitting headlines for the wrong reasons, though she's not the only one making mistakes. Emily gets pregnant, oblivious to who the father is. Let's just remember not all stories have a happy ending, and where there's love, there's drugs, and where there's drugs, there's guns..

30. The Big Fat Mistake

Zed Edwards is a lying fraud.

He never mentioned anything about Jenny.

Not once did he bring up the fact that she was getting all done up too. Zayn’s having a great deal of trouble getting his eyes off her. Jen’s loving it, running her manicured nails through impossible black hair. It’s been layered and dyed, looking somewhat like a stretch of starless night sky tumbling down her back. Her ice-blue eyes peek through inky but elegant mascara and sets of false eyelashes. Glossy nude lips pucker and smirk, looking just a tad bigger than they were before-hand. Her tan is much deeper, looking crisp and golden. It’s fair to say Jenny’s never looked so beautiful. I can barely even catch my breath.

“So what did Simon say?” Louis gushes, leaning over the bar table to her. She giggles, tossing her hand in the air.

“Oh, nothing I didn’t expect, Louis,” She says. “He’s offered me a contract.”

“Mm.” Jen takes the most minute sip of her diet lemonade.

Let me just think about that.

A recording contract?

Oh hell no.

Someone squeezes my hand under the table and my eyes automatically spring up to Harry. He stares at me hard, frowning. It’s okay, he mouths.

I nod, mostly for my benefit. I try to convince myself that Harry speaks the truth, but it just isn’t working.

Jenny’s got a record deal. She’s going to get famous. And I’m just going to be Emily. In fact, I bet Simon’s gone and booked me those train tickets back home. Jenny’s going to get him loads of publicity, the right kind, and the only headlines I’ll be making are the bad ones that set crappy examples. I can see it coming. I might as well pack my stuff now.

I snap back to reality.

It’s Liam speaking.

“We were just seeing if you wanted to come into town with us?” He repeats, trying to smile.

Jenny beams at me. Okay, who has the real Jen?

“Uh, sure,” I hear myself say. “Why not?”

Am I the only one that saw the flash of discomforting pleasure on Jenny’s face when I said that? Something tells me she’s up to something.

The Audi pulls up outside the highstreet, and me, Jen and the boys spill out. Jenny makes a deal of linking an arm through mine, tossing dark waves over her shoulder.

“Hey Em,” She smiles, a whole look of Megan Fox about her.

“Hi, Jenny,” I force. Don’t show any sign of jealousy, I warn myself.

“Let’s just go off, just me and you. Good ol’ girly shop just like back in the day?” She’s more pleading than suggesting. Maybe I misjudged her a bit. Maybe all she wants is to be friends again? Or maybe she’s just planning something stupid. I shouldn’t go. I should stick well in sight of the guys in case Jenny does something stupid.

“Ok,” I agree. “Just like back in the day.”

Before I can change my mind, she’s whirled me down the highstreet, and One Direction are out of my sight.

I am alone with Jennifer McGuire.

This is going to be a big fat mistake and I know it.
