9. Chapter 9

**A/N** Okay So I wrote Chapter 9, and my computer started acting like a jerk and shut down. Didn't save the chapter I wrote. So now I am mad and I will try to write it they way I had before.**

I pushed open the door to the office, and looked around. I spotted a the main desk so my mom and I walked over to it. The lady looked up at us when we approached the desk, my mom started talking to the lady. I turned to my mom to try and see what she was saying. She was talking way to fast so all I caught was "First day.... Halle... grades." It didn't make much sense at all, and I wasn't going to try and figure out what she said.

After my mom finished talking the lady handed me a piece of paper with my schedule on it. She hand my mom a few forms to sign, so we sat down in chairs that were conveniently near the desk. I peeked over at the forms, it was just the regular birthday, any allergies, poor eye sight, illnesses.

After about 10 minutes my mom finished the paperwork and handed it back to the woman at the desk. I finally took the time to look at my schedule.

1 Math        Mrs. Kensley   Rm. 205

2 Art          Ms. Garcia      Rm. 106

3 Science  Mr. Vlaria        Rm. 420

4 Gym      Coach Laker    Gym 600

  5 Lunch                     Cafteria 700

6 English  Mr. Harnom     Rm. 516

7 History   Miss. Bale       Rm. 309

8 ASL      Mrs. Bledsoe    Rm. 109

The lady behind the desk started signing very slowly for me, finger spelling most of it. 'I will have someone come and give your a tour of the school. You can sit down over there and wait.'  Then she said something to my mom. My mom nodded and looked at me, very slowly she mouthed, 'Have a good day Halle." She gave me a kiss on the cheek and walked out. Just like that, she left me with complete strangers that speak a different language than me. A language I hardly understand.

I take the woman's offer and sit down in the chair and study my schedule. Once I have it memorized I shove it into my bag, I pull out my phone and cheek to see if I have any new texts. None, Kandy and I have talked a little but she just entered in a really big competition and she wants to focus on it. I sign and pocket my phone, to pass the time I stare at the clock counting the minutes until I can leave.

Finally a girl with strawberry blonde hair walks up to me, she waves hi. I smile and stand up. 'You're going to show me around?' I ask her. She nods her head. She obviously knows that I don't sign much. 'My name is Vanessa.' She finger spells her name. 'Halle' I tell her. She smiles then heads toward the door and holds it open for me. She leads the way down a long courtyard and towards a small building. She pushes open a set of double doors and reveals a long hallway with lockers on both sides of the hall. She walks over to a room and slowly sign and mouths, 'This is you first hour, Math. Your locker is right over here.' She points to a green locker that is extended from the wall. She looks at my schedule and spins the lock for me, opening it. She informs me that I should put my things in there which I do. And we continue the tour.

'Okay, are you able to go to first hour?' Vanessa asks me after we have finished the tour. 'Yeah' I nod. She smiles and walks down the hallway towards her class. People have filled the hallways, they are laughing and signing rapidly. I would have no clue what they were saying even if I was in the conversation. The lights suddenly flashed and the people started walking down the hall to their class. I looked around bewildered. I was lost in a sea of people, and had no clue where to go.

I fought my way outside and breathed in the fresh air. I turned around in a complete circle trying to remember where I was. I just got out of the 100 building, and I wanted to go to the 200 building for Math. One of the cool things about this school was that it separated the buildings by subject, and the 100 building was electives. I walked across the courtyard to the 200 building. I looked down when I felt my phone vibrate, I pulled it out to look at the text, it was from Madison.

<TO: HALLE><FROM:MADISON> Hope it goes well, try not 2 get 2 stressed out.

I laughed but it didn't last long because I walked right into someone. I look up to see I ran straight into a guy, I quickly sign sorry and run to class seeing as how there wasn't many people left walking to class. I had just walked into the classroom when the lights flickered again signalling class to start. The teacher looked at me, 'I'm new here.' I signed to her. I really practiced my sign language a lot last night. But I still can't have a decent conversation all in ASL.

'Halle Woodward?' She asked.  I nod. She points to a seat down the aisle in the center of the room. I quickly sit in it and try to pay attention. Ms. Kensley launches into the huge thing about Proportions. Most of which I can't understand, lucky I already learned this. I close my eyes and lean my head down, I have no clue how I'm going to get through this day. I can't understand anyone and no one will be able to understand me. I hate being deaf, it's ruined my life. Nothing good has come out of this, yet.
