5. Chapter 5

I walk down the aisle towards Baylie's stall and open the door. I don't have a lesson today, but I just wanted to spend time with her. Maybe work on some things. I pulled open the door and walked into her stall. She tossed her head when she saw me, I laughed at her.

"Hey girly! Ready to do a little work?" I ask her. I grad my grooming supplies and start to work on getting the dirt out of her coat. I run a comb through her mane, and finally I grab a pick to clean her hooves. I walk over to the front left one and she picks it up and I grab it. After I finishing cleaning the hoof I move to the front right one. But this time she doesn't t pick up her hoof.

I run my hand along her leg and squeeze it, signaling to her to pick up her hoof. When she doesn't pick up her hoof I lean my weight onto her leg and squeeze her hoof. She picks it up, and I take the pick and barley press it to her hoof when she slams it to the ground.

"Baylie! What is the matter with you?" I question her. I slowly tun my hand down her leg again,  and she tosses her head in aggravation. "Shhh, it's alright girl. I won't hurt you." I tell her in a soothing voice. She slowly lifts it up, I set the pick down on the ground and inspect her hoof. It looks red in one area, I lightly brush the dirt off the area with my thumb, and see a piece of wood lodged in her hoof.

Great, the poor thing. She is probably in so much pain, I put my grooming kit away and run to Coach Lane's office. I knock loudly on the door.

"Come in!" I hear her say. I push open the door and walk in. "Hello Halle, what are you doing  here today?"

"I came to work with Baylie, and I was picking her hooves. I think she's lame, it looked like there was a piece of wood in her front right hoof."

"I will check it out, don't worry. And if she is, you can ride one of the stable horses tomorrow."

"Okay." I walk out of the office and she follows me. We walk down to her stall and I show Coach her hoof. She stands there for a minute looking at it. She shakes her head and softly sets Baylie's hoof back down.

"Yeah, there is definitely something something in there. I will have to call the vet to come look at it. I don't think you will be able to ride her tomorrow. You can ride Harmony tomorrow in the lesson."

"Okay." I say and hang my head. Coach disappears down the hall into her office, I walk over to Baylie and rub her back. "Poor girl, hopefully you will go sound soon. I don't to have to ride Harmony for so long." I close her stall and pull out my phone

<TO:MOM><FROM:HALLE> Hey, Baylie turned up lame 2day. Wont be able to ride her, i will ride a stble hrse 2mrw.

I send the text to my mom and sit down in the tack room.

<TO:HALLE><FROM:MOM> Ok, do u want me to pick u up now?

<TO"MOM><FROM:HALLE> Yeah, I will just hve Coach call nd tell me wht the vet says.

<TO:HALLE><FROM:MOM> Ok, I will be there soon

I put my phone away and go back to Baylie's stall to clean up. "Hey baby, don't worry you will feel better soon." I say and stroke her muzzle. I go in the back of her stall and pick up  the curry comb from where I tossed it. I gathered everything that was laying about and set it in my tack box outside the stall. I locked it and went back to the tack room to wash  my things.

I grabbed a few of my pads from my self and I grabbed a pair of my riding boots. I would take them home and clean them up and bring them back tomorrow. I walked to Coach's office and knocked on the door.

"Hey, I'm going to be leaving soon so could you call me after the vet gets here and tell me want she says?" I ask,

"Sure, I doubt it's anything serious. She will most likely just have to rest for a while."

"Yeah." Then I felt my phone vibrate, it was my mom telling me that she was here. "Well bye!"

"Bye!" I walk down the hallway to and outside. I stop outside my mom's car and climb in.

"So what is wrong with Baylie?" She asks.

"It looks like there is piece of wood lodged in her hoof. Nothing to bad, she is just sore and she can't be ridden." I explain.

"Oh, but she will be good soon right? Because we can always get a new horse."

"She will be fine, don't worry." I say, getting a little aggravated that she jumps so fast on getting a new horse. I love Baylie and only want her. I just hope she heals soon.
