14. in the meadow

Kili hurried to her side as he carefully examined her. “I think it is a sprain. You’ll just have to rest it for a while” he smirked and lifted her up, walked to the middle of the meadow and carefully put her down again. “There.. I’ll just go get some wood for the fire, stay here”.

He quickly started to collect branches, not daring to wander off too far. In a few minutes a fire was burning and Kili opened his bag and pulled out some lembas bread. “Look what I’ve got!” he smiled as he gave it to her and continued to take out some dried meat and water.

as much as the pain from her foot throbbed, seeing Kili’s concern warmed her heart. Not knowing what a ‘sprain’ was, she judged by Kili’s voice that there was nothing to worry about. “Kili! Where are you taking me!” She squeaked as he lifted her up in his strong arms. She nodded, knowing that he had to go to get wood, but she still felt uneasy without having Kili right by her side.

Sara’s face lit up when she saw Kili coming back toward her, and when she saw that he had lembas bread, she was ecstatic! “How did you come across this?” she asked him “You know, one bite can fill a grown man” she said with a grin, this was an old lie that parents would say to children whenever there was lembas bread around, but she didn’t expect for Kili to know this. While Kili was working on building the fire, Sara got together some grass and flower stems from around her, and started to wind them together to create a makeshift blanket, which was large enough for both of them to be covered. “This is extraordinary. Being with you, Kili, its just amazing”

Kili laughed. “I’m only amazing when i’m in amazing company! And I got the lembas from your home, I took the liberty of taking a few…”

It grew darker and Kili didn’t want to sleep when the fire still was lit, since evil creatures that could be drawn to it. Therefore he said to Sara; “You can sleep, I’ll just stay awake until the fire has died”. He offered her to lean against him when he’d positioned himself in a comfortable position. “It will be safer that way; I’ve heard that there are wargs around here and I don’t wish to be woken by one of them”.
