A 1Derful Fantasy

Hey! This is going to be a 1D fairy tale. Minus all the magic. Hope you like it.

1. Masquerade

I stepped out of the small cottage that my father and I lived in. It was a crisp morning and my father needed something to eat. Ever since mother died, he hasn't been the same. He's grown weaker, he hasn't eaten much, he gets out of bed late, and he isn't as playful as he used to be. I missed the way Father used to be. I tucked my long blonde hair into my cloak and started down the path to town. It was a winding dirt trail that lead through the forest and the branches from the new trees and pointy bushes would grab at my dull dress.

After a bit of walking, I emerged out of the woods and into the town. I loved the sights and smells of our small village. The hustling people made it more interesting. There were magicians, musicians, and countless other performers hoping to get money to support their families. I headed strait for the baker. He was always so friendly to me, and he was an old friend of my father's. The smell of the baking bread and pastries filled my lungs, making me even more hungry then I thought I was. "Ah. Good morning, Isabel." Camille  the baker said from behind the counter.

"Good morning." I smiled at him.

"Your father doing any better," Camille asked.

I shook my head thinking of Papa laying in bed. Camille sighed. "Well what do you need today?" he asked.

"Just a loaf of bread." I replied  He grabbed me  a fresh loaf and wrapped it in cloth, knowing how clumsy I was. "Here you go." He handed me the wrapped up bread. I tried to hand him the money to pay for it but he shook his head. "You keep it."

"But-" I started but Camille cut me off by saying "Just go."

I nodded to him as a thank you and walked back outside. All of the townspeople were gathered around the notice board. I saw my friend Jenna at the front and made my way over to her. When I got to the front where she was I examined the poster. It declared that Prince Liam was having a masquerade for his birthday tonight."Isabel, you have to come." Jenna told me. I thought about Papa again. I wasn't sure he could take care of himself for the night. "I don't know." I said.

"You have to. Your father needs to let you have a break." This comment took me by surprise. Jenna knew that my father always wanted me to go out, but I never would because of his condition. Jenna must have seen a shocked look on my face because she realized what I was thinking. "I didn't mean it like that. I'm so sorry, Isabel."

I waved it off. "It's fine. I have to go."

"Tell your father." I nodded and was off towards the path back to my cottage.

Once I was out of the crowd I started on my way. But, being as clumsy as I am, I tripped over a strong boy with a cloak pulled over his face age and dropped the bread that was in my hand. "I am so sorry." I apologized. I slid my cloak's hood back so I could see where the bread rolled off to a bit better.

"It's alright. Here." I looked up to see the boy giving me the cloth wrapped loaf. Standing up, I dusted myself off and took the bread form him.

"Thank you, um. What's your name?" I asked, tilting my head to try to get a better look at him.

"Oh. Um. Never mind that. Are you, by any chance, going to the masquerade tonight?" He changed the subject.

"I'm not quite sure. My father might need me to be home tonight." I shrugged.

"Well, I'll look for you." This boy made me a little uneasy. I couldn't see his face so I wasn't sure I could trust him or not.

"It's a masquerade. How will you know it's me?" I tested.

"Easy." I could almost hear his smile. "I'll look for the girl with the gorgeous blond hair and beautiful grey eyes." I didn't like him bringing up the color of my eyes. I thought they were dull when I saw all the other girls with their bright green or blue eyes. But I smiled at the compliment any ways.

"How will I know who you are?" I tested him again.

"I'll give you this back." He held up my mothers ring. My eyes grew wide at the sight of him holding it. It must have fallen off when I fell.

He chuckled. "See you there." Then he was gone.
