14. Chapter 13

(Nina's POV)

The car ride home was a little awkward. I was happy for Lucy don't get me wrong. But it just made me remember about Niall and I felt a pain of guilt in my stomach. I had hurt him. Bad. There was no excuse for it. I was drunk. But maybe staying with Zayn isn't the best idea. I sighed and looked out the window. The dark trees passed by in a blur. I heard the twigs snap under the tires as we rode along. The hour to get to Zayn's flat was ridiculous but comforting in a way. It gave me time to think. Zayn didn't really say much so it was quite. The low hum of the radio felt like static in my head.

Then I heard a familiar song and I almost lost all hope of surviving without Niall.

"When you try your best but you don't succeed. When you get what you want and not what you need. When you feel so tired but you can't sleep. Stuck in reverse-"

I quickly snapped off the radio. I didn't want to hear that song. That song brought back so many memories.

"You okay?" Zayn asked.

I simply nodded my head and turned to face the trees again. Their dark fingers reaching out as if to pull you in and never let you go. What was I thinking? That's messed up. I'm messed up.

We finally pulled up to Zayn's flat and it looked untouched. As if no one lived there. It was creepy. Tucked away in its little corner of the branches. As I stepped out of the car I heard a raven crowing. What the hell is going on? I knew Zayn was a dark person but I didn't know he was in to creepy houses in the middle of nowhere too.

We walked up on the porch and I waited for Zayn to fish his key out of his pocket and unlock the door.

The inside was a little less creepy then the outside. But it was all very dull. The colors were bland. There was no life in this house. No personality.

"Sorry. It's a newer house and I don't really have the time to fix it up. I wouldn't even know where to start. The only thing I have touched is the bedroom." He said.

I slowly walked down the hall to look at the rooms. Like he had said the bedroom was a dark red. It was pretty though. The bed was massive with curtains around the edges. Very Victorian like.

"Very nice." I said. I placed my duffle bag on the floor and retreated to the bathroom for a hot shower.

I let the hot water run down my back as I leaned against the wall. I felt the steam rise to the ceiling, leaving a cold breeze. I shivered and turned off the water before jumping out and throwing on my robe. I let my hair hang loose and I walked in to the bedroom. Zayn was passed out on the bed. I sighed and grabbed my duffle bag. I walked across the hall to the other bedroom and closed the door. Lookin out the window I could see that it was storming. The tree's branches scraped against the glass like nails. I put on my sweatpants and t shirt before climbing in to bed. Not caring that my hair was still somewhat wet.

"Nina?" I heard from the hallway.

"What Zayn?" I asked.

"Are you okay in there? You can have the master I can sleep in there."

"It's fine." I said rolling over.

I heard his retreating footsteps across the hall and the slight click of his door as it closed.

I sighed and put in my headphones. Wanting to escape from the world. Then I drifted into the most horrifying dream of my life.
