44. You

Harry started laughing when he saw Lux later on that day. She had hatred in her eyes, a pout on her mouth, and a small square white erase board hanging from her neck like an unsightly necklace.

He laughed as she removed it from her neck and turned it toward her, scribbling words onto it quickly and spinning it to face him.

Harry simply laughed harder, watching her glare as she smudged the words from the board with her fingertips. He extended his arms to her, watching her write 'NO' on her board before turning away from him. He leaped up onto one foot, reaching out and grabbing her by the back of her cardigan, yanking her backwards into his body. He let her body weight push him back down onto the couch he was sitting on, her long limbs tumbling on top of his into a web of arms and legs and torsos.

His arms tightened around her as she tried to wiggle free, and his lips began to plant kisses all over her back, moving up until her reached her face, kissing it everywhere, listening to her giggles as his eyelashes tickled her cheeks. The white board and marker clanked to the floor as Harry began to make exaggerated kissing sounds every time his lips touched a new part of her face, leaving a light trail of saliva behind as he moved along. Lux's laughter grew and grew until it reached a dangerous point, in which Harry reached up and covered her mouth, laughing himself as he shushed her.

“No making noise.” He whispered, somehow feeling the need to whisper, maybe because it was so quiet when Lux wasn't making any noises. Her usual sounds were absent, leaving the air empty and making him feel like she was lost. If he weren't looking directly at her, he would feel lost himself.

“I think I'll forget what your voice sounds like soon enough.” He tried to smile, but he faltered and her fingers were instantly on his cheeks. She cupped his face in her hands, leaning down to kiss him softly on the mouth. Lux pulled back and grabbed her white board and marker off the floor.

'Drama Queen' She wrote down on her board, smiling at him as he grinned back, feeling his mood lift. He leaned down and kissed her forehead, smearing the words off the board with his fingers as he did.

“We have so much work to do...this is gonna be a hard week, Lux.” He muttered, chewing his bottom lip and looking past her face. She looked thoughtful for a moment before scribbling something down on her board.

'What are we doing about Casey?'

Harry's eyebrows pulled together, “She hasn't bothered us since she found her phone destroyed. I think we're in the clear. I haven't talked to her.” Lux was already busy writing again.

She paused, looking up at him for a long moment before she showed him her new message.

'And her roommate?'

His heart froze in his chest, seeing the look in her eyes as he read the message. For some stupid reason, he thought he wouldn't have to deal with this issue, but clearly it's been in the back of Lux's mind.

“I don't talk to her either.” He said sternly, watching her blink at him a few times. “I don't, Lux.”

'It feels like you cheated on me. Is that stupid?'

“No.” He frowned, sighing heavily. “Nothing you feel is stupid.”

'I don't want to think that way. We weren't together...but it still stings.'

“I know, babe.” He touched her cheek gently, rubbing a strand of her hair between his fingers. “You've been mine since the day we met, that's why it hurts. It didn't matter that we weren't official, our hearts told us otherwise. If you did it, I probably wouldn't have been as forgiving as you.”

'What would you do? If I did that?'

“Are you trying to tell me something?” His eyebrows raised, his body automatically leaning away from her. She shook her head, quickly adding onto the board.

'Just curious!'

“I guess it depends on who it was with.” Harry leaned back into her, feeling a pang in his chest at the very thought of her being with anyone that wasn't him. It hurt, bad. “No, I guess it doesn't. I would want to kill whoever put their hands on you.”

'Murder is a little far, don't ya think?' Lux smiled as she showed this to him, hoping he got her light tone and didn't take this the wrong way.

“It should feel wrong, but somehow it doesn't.” He said softly, “Just the thought of you with someone else makes me feel ill. I can't imagine... I don't want to talk about this anymore.”

She stared at him, seeing the vein popping out in his neck and the way his jaw twitched as if he were clenching it. He was angry now.

'I would never do that to you.'

Harry stared at the message for a long time before glancing up into her eyes, feeling and looking completely guilty rather than angry. Lux held a finger up to him and then began to write again.

'I don't care about what you did before you told me you loved me. I'm letting go of it all right now. All that matters is that you're mine now and I would never do anything to put our relationship in jeopardy. I love you to the moon and back. Nothing will change that, I won't let anything tear us apart. Okay?'

“To the moon and back, huh?” He murmured, locking his fingers around hers and tugging her forward into his space. She reached up and pushed his curls back from his forehead, watching them bounce right back into place. His eyes stayed on her face as she carefully pushed his hair aside, away from his eyes, and then she looked back at him. Her smile grew as she caught him staring.

She took the marker from her white board and grabbed his wrist, pushing his sleeve up so his forearm showed. He smiled as the marker glided across his skin, watching her write her last message on him like a tattoo instead of on the board. Lux capped the marker and looked back at him, satisfied.

'Who else in the world will love you like that?'

Harry read the message, kissing her gently before answering her, “Only you.”
