19. Run

Lux was a zombie that night. Her whole body felt cold, and her heart was heavy in her chest. She already felt sick from thinking about performing on stage, but when she realized that Harry wasn't going to come and watch her, that's when she threw up.

Sara was heading down to her room with Niall in tow when she heard Lux puking, and she sighed heavily, sharing a look with her mentor before knocking on the door.

“I'm puking, g'way.” Lux mumbled, flushing the toilet and running the water.

Sara waited as she listened to Lux gargle water, spit it out, and then the door creeped open slowly. She peeked out and saw them standing there, sighing heavily and slowly exiting.

Niall held out a piece of minty gum, and Lux felt her eyes fill with tears as she accepted, remembering the way Harry's breath always smelled like minty gum. She blinked her tears back, allowing Sara to hold her hand as they walked back to her dressing room to wait to be called.

“Thanks, guys.” Lux whispered, sitting down slowly and reaching up to play with the heavy gold necklaces she had on. Her outfit was amazing, just like all the outfits on X Factor, and consisted of black skinny pants, a black corset, a heavy necklace with chains of gold, and black boots that tied up with gold chains instead of laces. She loved it, she loved the big curls her hair was in, and she loved the smoky eyes, but she still felt empty inside. It was an emptiness not even a cute outfit would fix.

“I'm lending you my mentor tonight.” Sara said, “Since yours is a big arse.”

Niall looked over and smiled at the word she used, shaking his head slightly.

“Oh, you don't have to do that.” Lux sniffled, “That's so sweet..”

“Hey, you would do it for me.” She said, “Not that I'd want your mentor, but still..”

“He's not so bad. Just bein' moody is all.” Niall said, frowning slightly.

“It's okay. I know why he isn't showing up.” Lux whispered, looking down at the ground.

“Look what I found!” Louis' voice rang out and they all looked up immediately, seeing him practically dragging a stumbling Harry along into the room. “He's piss drunk.”

“He's WHAT?” Sara's eyes widened, “He's not old enough to drink!!”

Everyone looked at her with scrunched eyebrows, and Niall laughed at her.

“When has being underage ever stopped a teenager from drinking?” He asked, still laughing as she reached over to smack his arm.

“I'm trying to be the responsible one..” She mumbled as she continuously hit his arm.

Lux was silent, watching Louis and Harry stagger to the couch, his body falling the second Louis let go of him. Louis looked up at Lux and met her eyes, sighing heavily and staring at her for a second before leaning down to straighten Harry's body out.

“I'm sorry, Lux.” Niall whispered, shaking his head, obviously disappointed in Harry's unprofessional actions. He squeezed her shoulder and she looked up at him, trying to smile. “I'll still be your stand in if you want me to, I don't think he'll be much help.”

“Doooon't touch.. mine..” Harry slurred out, pointing at Niall's hand on Lux's shoulder.

“That's okay, you worry about Sara. I'll be okay.” Lux smiled at him, “But thank you, really.”

“Okay. No problem, love.” He whispered, sighing once more before leading Sara out of the room, his hand placed lightly on the small of her back. Lux briefly tacked a reminder on her brain to ask Sara what was going on between the two of them.

“I worshiped her..Lou... I loved her so much..” Harry was muttering to his best friend, staring up at him with big shiny eyes. Lux felt her heart crack straight down the center, and she pretended to busy herself with fixing the chain laces in her boots.

“I know, Hazza.” Louis murmured, and Lux looked up just in time to see Louis petting Harry's curls down, and she fought back to urge to go, 'Awwwwwww!' at the sight of it.

“Look, I know you have to perform in a little bit, but he wouldn't let me take him anywhere else. He was demanding to see you, so I didn't know what else to do. Do you think you can handle him for a little bit? I'll come get him right after Joey performs.” Louis said, speaking of his own contestant.

“Yeah, that's fine. Tell Joe I said good luck.” Lux smiled lightly, sitting on the couch next to Harry as Louis nodded, prying himself from under Harry's fingers.

“Hazza, Luxie is gonna take good care of you until I get back, ok?” Louis said slowly and loudly, as if he were talking to a person who doesn't speak proper English. Lux bit back a laugh at his antics.

“Good luck, babe.” Louis leaned over and kissed both of her cheeks, making her blush and smile.

“Thank you.” She whispered, watching him leave before she turned to look at Harry.

His eyes were half closed and glossy, but he was still staring over at her.

“I want gum.” He said, his voice slurring and barely coherent.

Lux rolled her eyes, “I don't have any. I got this piece from Niall.”

“So gimme that piece.” He said, watching her wrinkle her nose.

“I puked before I started chewing this.” She stated, shaking her head.

“I don't care.” He slurred, grabbing her face with one hand and pulling her to him.

“Harry, that's gross..” She said, but before she could push him away, he had his lips on hers.

Her entire body melted into hot lava, and she felt herself sink into his arms before she could think twice about it. He enclosed her body in his arms, feeling her press against him tightly, kissing him back eagerly. Harry traced her closed lips with his tongue, and after a moment of hesitation, she allowed him to use his tongue to take her gum from her. Once he had it, he kissed her for a moment longer, until she was nice and weak, and then he pulled back, chomping happily on his gum.

Lux felt destroyed. She felt every bone in her body ache with want, and it wasn't a feeling she liked at all. She wanted nothing more than to wiggle back into his arms and kiss him more, but she knew she should and would not. She had her heart to protect, and kissing Harry didn't protect it, but instead put it at risk for breakage. She knew from the moment she fell for him that he would break her heart.

She tried to ignore the ache in her body, turning away from Harry and flicking on the TV in her room to watch the performance before hers. She watched Joey sing, and felt Harry scoot closer to her, his hand pressing into her lower back. She looked over her shoulder at him, just in time to see him lay his head against her shoulder blade, closing his eyes lightly.

“I need you.” He mumbled, opening his eyes slowly and looking up into her eyes. “So bad..”

Lux's mouth turned down, feeling the most overwhelming urge to cry that she's ever felt. She's never heard anyone say something so desperate to her, and it makes her feel complete despair.

“No, you don't.” She whispered, turning back to the TV, just in time to see the pre-taped interview and montage of her and Harry. The thought of watching them when they were happy made her feel sick, so she shrugged Harry off of her and stood up to leave.

“Don't leave me..” He said quietly, and Lux paused at the door, feeling a sob wrack through her body. She bit her tears back, trying not to start sobbing like a baby in front of him and before she has to perform. She shook her head, refusing to answer him as she sped out of the room like it was on fire.

“Lux!!” She heard Harry yell after her, but she didn't look back. No, she wouldn't look back.

She ran.
