Lux had a bottle of champagne in her left hand, her dress bunched up in her left hand, and she was walking on the tips of her toes around the pool outside. She stared at the clear blue water and imagined how beautiful her dress would look underneath it, flowing with the water.

Her lips found the neck of the bottle and she tipped it back, taking a long gulp before putting it down in the ground next to her. Without hesitation, she moved to the edge of the pool and jumped in, wearing the dress that she performed in, the dress that was probably worth more than her car.

The water was chilly, but her body adjusted to it quickly as she stayed under, daring to open her eyes in the chlorine so she could look at the dress flowing around her. It was beautiful, just as she suspected, almost like blood. For a moment, everything was quiet, calm, her heartbeat slow and steady.

For a moment, everything felt okay.

Then someone jumped in with her, their arms locking around her torso and pulling her up above the water. Someone thought she was drowning, maybe, or they just wanted her out of the water. Either way, she was partly annoyed that her moment of peace had just been ruined, so she turned around with a scowl on her face, wiping her eyes.

“Don't yell at me.” She sighed heavily at the sight of Harry, his curls wet and falling onto his face. He shoved them back and her entire body ached at the sight of drops of water on his eyelashes.

“Okay...” She whispered, staring at him. “When did you get out?”

“Just now. I.. had a revelation of sorts.” He said quietly, his accent sounding like velvet.

“Oh?” Lux raised an eyebrow, drifting away from him in the pool, looking down as her dress fanned out around her. He looked down at it as well, reaching his hands out to grab some of the material.

“You've ruined this dress, you know.” He made a sort of 'tsk' noise with his mouth, shaking his head.

“What are you, my gay stylist? Who cares?” She laughed, pulling the material further away from him, moving until her back was against the wall of the pool as far from him as possible.

He moved toward her slowly, his eyes locked on her the whole time he moved, reminding her of a shark going after it's prey. She wondered briefly how it would feel to be ravaged by Harry Styles.

“Tell me about this sort of revelation you had.” She says quietly, watching him move to her. His palms stretched out to her and wrapped around her wrists like handcuffs, holding her tightly.

“Well, I was thinking about you... about what you said to me, a few days ago.. you know,” He said softly, looking down at the water like a shy puppy dog, something he only turned into when he was with her. “and I was thinking about you when you're all old and wrinkly, and I hope when you think back to these days.. you can smile and think of me and how much we.. how we..”

Harry's voice cracked and he looked away from her, clearing his throat and turning red.

“Did you imagine me to be a pretty old lady?” Lux smirked, tilting her head, hoping to ease his embarrassment. He smiled, turning his head back to her, shrugging his shoulders.

“I think no matter what age you are, I'll always imagine you to look the way you did the first time I realized I was in love with you.” He said, his words tumbling on top of one another as he rushed to get them out before he could stop himself. Harry's body tensed up after the last four words were out, the most important words he's ever muttered to anyone, and she felt her heart speed up.

Harry thought out two versions of how this could go. In the bad version, he expected her to cry maybe, or get mad at him for not telling her sooner, or to tense up as well, leaving them to sit in an awkward silence that lasts for hours and hours until they eventually disappear from equal amounts of embarrassment.

In the good version, she would smile or laugh as she said, “I love you too” before hugging him, kissing him, jumping into his arms as they run off together to happily ever after. She would move to England and be with him forever and he would never have to worry about being alone ever again.

But she didn't do any of those things.

Lux reached behind her and unzipped her dress, shimmying her hips to get it down over her body. She watched it float to the top of the water, and she used one hand to push it away from them so it could float away by itself. She tilted her head at Harry, locking her eyes with his as her fingers slowly removed her bra and panties, letting them float away too.

He didn't look at her naked body because her eyes were so beautiful that they kept his attention, and he felt himself blinking slowly as she pulled him to her, wrapping her long, thin arms around his torso. Her fingers worked his shirt up and over his skin, and she listened to the slap it made as it hit the water, floating away to be with her clothing.

Harry didn't touch her, only felt her fingers on his skin and her breasts against his chest, water dripping down over both of their bodies, falling into their curves and crevices. Her eyes sparkled under the moonlight, and her lips parted softly before she brought them up to touch his. He fell into the kiss instantly, reaching his hands up to touch her face, holding her lips to his and sighing as her tongue swept over his. His fist tightened in her hair, trying to pull her in closer, wanting to be nowhere but exactly where he was in that moment. Her hands moved over his chest up to his shoulders, grabbing them tightly and pressing her nails into his flesh, making him hiss lightly against her mouth.

“Do you know what time it is?” She murmured against his lips, allowing his tongue access to her mouth for a moment before pulling back again, looking up into his eyes. “It's midnight.”

Harry stared down at her for a second, his eyebrows pulling together in the middle as he wondered what the hell that had to do with anything. Then he remembered.

“It's my birthday.”

Lux smiled softly, her fingers splaying out on his cheek, her thumb against his bottom lip.

“Happy birthday, Hazza.” She whispered, and then reached back up to kiss him again. He pressed her back against the wall of the pool, trailing his lips down over her neck as she leaned back, gasping for breath and suppressing her moans as he kissed and sucked the soft skin along her jawline, moving down over to the curve of her shoulder.

“Luxie... Luxie, wait.” He pulled away, feeling his body go slightly cold when he wasn't in direct contact with her. He cupped her face in his hands and stared down at her, “You didn't.. answer me.”

“What are you talking about?” She asked, shaking her head. “Just come back here.”

“No, Lux. I.. I said it. This is a big deal. I.. I love you.” He said, “I love you and I'm scared.”

She stared at him for a long time in silence, her eyes wide and innocent like a deer in headlights. He remembered when he stared at her that way after she told him she loves him. She blinked and looked down briefly, reaching up to touch her damp hair. She seemed like she didn't know what to say or do.

“I'm..” Her lips stopped moving as she took a deep breath, looking back up into his eyes. “I'm scared, too. You've always scared me, ever since the minute I met you. I'm scared to say I love you back to you because then things will be okay and every time things start going okay, something really bad happens and takes it all away. I don't want you to be taken away from me.”

Her bottom lip started to quiver and she turned her head away from him, shutting her eyes.

“I'm yours.” Was all Harry whispered back, watching her face turn back to him.

“For keeps?” She asked, biting her quivering lip and blinking her tears back.

“For keeps.” He smiled, touching her face and pressing his lips to her forehead. “Now say it.”

“Promise me, first. Promise me that it will be okay, no matter what, we'll always be okay.”

“I promise you,” He whispered, “that I will do everything in my power to make it okay for us. Now you have to promise me that you'll stand by me, even if things get bad. If I jump, you jump. Okay?”

“Okay. I will, without a second of hesitation.” She murmured while nodding, tipping her head back so her lips could touch his lightly, trying not to cry from the joy and the fear that was bubbling up inside of her heart, making it feel as if it would explode any second.

“I love you.” She said, looking into those green eyes that she loved so much, seeing them staring back at her bravely as he smiled at her. Lux had never been as proud of anyone as she was of Harry at this moment when he kissed her, leaning his forehead against hers as he whispered back to her.

“I love you, too.”
