47. Hero

After an embarrassing round of vocal warm-ups, which Harry demanded that she perform, they sat down on the couch together, leaving at least a foot of space between their bodies. It killed her that just a few days ago, he would have obnoxiously been practically on top of her and now he was so far away that she couldn't even feel the heat off his body.

It was like sitting with a ghost.

“So, um, I was, erm, thinking you should, well you don't have to, but maybe you could, uh, sing anything. Just so I can, uh, see how your voice has, um, progressed, so...” Harry was practically twitching with nervousness, and he felt like a bloody imbecile for how his voice was shaking and how he could barely form a complete sentence in Lux's presence.

“Anything?” She whispered, looking down at her hands instead of at his face.

“Yeah, sure. We can uh, talk about the duet a-after.” He shook his hair out and ran his fingers through it, readjusting its placement on his forehead like he always did.

“Ok.” Lux looked up and met his eyes for a moment, feeling her eyes practically glow when they locked with his. He always made her feel so magical.

She stood up off the couch they were seated on, beginning to walk toward the piano, and stopped short, turning back around to face Harry head on. She felt her hands make fists at her sides, and when he saw those fists of hers, he knew he was about to hear it.

“Did you read any of my texts?” She asked him, raising her eyebrows. Her voice was almost angry.

“No.” He whispered honestly, looking back down at his hands. “Just sing, Lux.”

Her hands twitched at her side, but she turned and stormed over to the piano anyways, swallowing the tears and anger that she knew were coming her way. She flexed her fingers out before placing them down onto the keys lightly, turning her head a few inches so that she was looking over at Harry again.

He could feel her eyes on him and reluctantly raised his head until his face was straight, keeping his eyes shut to her for a long moment. The second he opened his green-blue eyes to her, she pressed down on the keys and began to play softly, keeping her eyes and focus completely on Harry.

So lately, been wondering who will be there to take my place? When I'm gone, you'll need love to light the shadows on your face. If a great wave shall fall, it would fall upon us all, and between the sand and stone, could you make it on your own?” Harry scrunched his eyebrows carefully, recognizing the lyrics but not quite remembering what the song was titled. He knew that Lux was doing an acoustic version, it was slower and softer than what he remembered in his head. But what is it called?

Lux parted her lips and locked her eyes with his as fiercely as she could. Her voice, which was sounding a little weak at the beginning of the song, began to get stronger as she sang the chorus directly to him, making his entire body light up on fire. “If I could, then I would, I'll go wherever you will go. Way up high or down low, I'll go wherever you will go.”

And maybe I'll work out a way to make it back some day towards you, to guide you through the darkest of your days. If a great wave shall fall, it would fall upon us all. Well I hope there's someone out there who can bring me back to you.” Harry felt his body rise, realizing he was standing up without even knowing he was doing it. His legs began to take slow steps toward where Lux sat, playing the piano across the room, singing to him in that beautiful voice of hers. Even weak, it was so beautiful to him. He could feel all the pain in her voice every time she sang the chorus to him.

If I could, then I would, I'll go wherever you will go. Way up high or down low, I'll go wherever you will go. Run away with my heart, run away with my hope, run away with my love.”

Harry reached the piano and slowly fell to his knees next to it, his breathing hard and his heart pounding against his rib cage. He felt a sting in his eyes that made him blink furiously, trying to hold back every emotion he was feeling but failing completely. She turned him into a giant pile of mush, no matter how hard he tried to stay strong, he fell to his knees before her. He was her servant.

I know now, just quite how my life and love might still go on in your heart, in your mind, I'll stay with you for all of time. If I could, then I would, I'll go wherever you will go. Way up high or down low, I'll go wherever you will go.” Her voice broke as she sang, and as Harry slowly looked up at her, he saw that it was from the tears on her face, not from her voice being ruined. Lux looked at him slowly, seeing that he was on his knees and staring up at her in complete awe. She could feel how much he loved her, how scared he was, how fragile he felt. She could feel everything he felt.

“If I could make you mine, I'll go wherever you will go. If I could turn back time, I'll go wherever you will go. I'll go wherever you will go...Harry?” Lux finished the song, looking down to see Harry's face in her lap, his cheeks pressed to her legs, his hands gripping onto her outer thighs.

“Harry?” She whispered again, reaching down to touch his hair lightly. The second she placed her hand on his head, his entire body began to shake with sobs. A gasp escaped her mouth and she immediately slid her body down to the ground where he was, moving his head to the crook of her neck instead of her legs. His tears were warm against her skin, making her hair stick to her neck, and the sounds coming out of his mouth were so full of despair that it terrified her.

“I can't..” Was all he kept repeating to her in between hiccups, gasps for breath and loud sobbing. She had never seen a man cry like this before in her life. She wasn't sure how to react or what to do, but she assumed that she should hold him. So she just did.

"I don't...I don't want you to go anywhere...I've never loved anything this much, its fucking me all up. If you disappear from my life, I don't know what I'll do, Lux. I just don't know how to deal with this shit.." His sobbing quieted down and she could tell he was embarrassed at showing his emotions in such a form.

“Shh, now.” She whispered, tilting his face upward to hers and pushing his hair back from his forehead. She reached out and touched his wet, red cheeks and looked into his bloodshot eyes, seeing a fear that she wasn't aware he held inside of him. Lux knew that if she were in his shoes, she would want him to hug her and hold her and kiss her. She didn't know why he was crying, or what was wrong, but she figured nothing could help him more than kisses. Kisses help everything.

He watched her lean in and press her lips against his forehead tightly, and he pulled back only to raise up on his knees, mimicking her pose, so he was taller than her once again. He touched her chin with his fingertips, she touched his fingertips with her own, and without another breath or word or cry, her lips were on his. He wasted no time in putting his hands on her hips and yanking her tightly into him, prying her lips apart with his tongue. She let his warm tongue invade her mouth, succumbing to him as she always has and will. Lux pressed her body tighter into his, grabbing his face with her palms and feeling the wet tears left over on his cheeks. She held his head firmly to her mouth, not wanting him to pull back from this kiss, not realizing that he had no plans to do so. He could stay attached to her lips forever.

Harry's fingers slid under her thin shirt, moving up to touch the small of her back and the curve of her hips, feeling her skin under his skin. He groaned softly as he felt her, moving back to sit down as she slowly slid onto him. Her legs wrapped round his waist, their limbs tangling together like they have many times, lanky and skinny and a big clumsy mess. All he could focus on, even with her on top of him and her lips on his, was the heaviness in his heart as he thought about them being oceans apart one day.

“Did you mean it?” He pulled back from the kiss quickly, keeping his lips close to hers as he whispered into her mouth. Her lips brushed his as she fought to catch her breath, her eyebrows stitching together as she thought about his question. They raised up when she remembered the song she just sang to him.

“Yes.” She said, “I wrote it on the board, but you... you were so mad and you threw it, so...”

“What did you write?” He pulled back to look up into her eyes, hoping his weren't all bloodshot from his embarrassing weak episode earlier.

“That I'll go wherever you go. And I will.” Lux looked down at her hand as she wrapped it around his, lacing her fingers through his and tightening her grip. Her hand always fit so perfectly inside his.

“What if I go to the moon?” His lips twitched up into a cheeky smile, and she giggled at the sight of it, knowing that things were okay with them again. For now, things were okay.

“Then I'll be your astronaut.” She whispered, leaning into him slowly and pressing her lips tightly against his. Lux melted against his body, feeling his free hand press to the side of her head as he deepened their kiss. From the tip of her toes to the top of her head, she felt a warmth radiate through her and she shook with desire.

“And if I go to Neverland?” He whispered against her lips, pulling back only to speak that sentence, then kissing her again before she could answer.

“I'll be your Wendy.” Her lips desperately attached back to his, not liking being away from him for a second. He smiled momentarily at her answer, returning the kiss.

“What about Hogwarts?” He chuckled against her mouth, watching her smile.

“The Hermione to your Ron.”

“And if I go back to silly little Holmes Chapel?”

Harry pulled back to look up at her face, watching her eyes soften as they met his. The light behind her illuminated her hair and made it look like she had a halo on, and it was completely fitting for him. She was an angel to him. Without her, he would be lost and broken. She saved him over and over again. Lux was the hero of this story.

His hero-angel broke out into a giggle fit, her laughter sounding like a tinkling bell, leaning down to plant a kiss and a whisper against his mouth, “I'll be the Lux to your Harry.”

And it was the best damn answer he's ever heard.
