Lux decided that this day was her favorite day of all time.

She woke up at 6AM sharp to Harry's face. She took a long shower and when she pushed the curtain back to reach for her towel, she was greeted with the sight of Harry brushing his teeth at her sink. He stared at her through the mirror, a slow smirk appearing on his face at the sight of her naked and wet body. She blushed and grabbed her towel, wrapping it around herself tightly as she stepped out.

She ate breakfast next to Harry, his playful nature coming out as he hand-fed her raspberries off his plate, his fingers invading her mouth when nobody was looking, allowing her to suck the juices off. His hand pressed into her inner thigh repeatedly over the course of breakfast, and every time he touched her, she felt her stomach tighten in anticipation. His hand never went further than it was supposed to, and part of her was a little disappointed that he wasn't being his obnoxiously horny self.

Lux went to rehearsal with Harry, she stopped outside and took pictures with fans. Fans wanted pictures with both of them at the same time, and their fingers touched behind the backs of ecstatic teenage girls, a secret that they hoped nobody would see. She signed autographs with Harry's hand on her back, waiting patiently for her to finish so he could guide her safely inside the building.

When they should have been doing sound-check, they were having giggle fits and wrestling matches. The producers had to yell at them four times before they got through the song fully. Harry followed her backstage, he forced her to eat lunch, she threw grapes into the air and watched him try to catch them in his mouth. He was with her for make-up and hair, sitting in the chair next to her and receiving his very own make-up and hair treatments. She laughed at him when they put foundation on him to cover his acne, and in retaliation, he threw a brush at her head, which only made her laugh harder.

When it came time for them to separate to get dressed, it was decided that they wouldn't be allowed to see each other until they went on stage. The producers blamed it on their “rowdy behavior” but Lux knew that it was because they wanted the performance to seem more intimate, like a wedding day.

Once she saw her dress, she immediately felt like a bride. It was long in the back, shorter in the front, a beautiful white color with a sparkling belt made of crystals. It was paired with light gray wedge heels that matched the crystals and pearl drop earrings. Her hair was pulled back at the nape of her neck into some complicated but gorgeous bun, curled tendrils escaping it and falling lightly into her face.

She paced around her dressing room while waiting for a stagehand to come and get her, and while she waited, she heard Harry's voice coming from the TV in the corner. Lux looked up at it immediately, smiling as she saw him in their pre-performance segment, speaking about the problems with her vocal chords. His face was distraught, with dark circles under his eyes that indicated he wasn't sleeping well when he filmed this video.

“I would love for her to win, but more than anything I don't want her to hurt herself. If anything happens to her... I don't know what I'll do.” He shook his head, staring downwards, chewing on the inside of his cheek as the screen faded to stupid angsty clips of Lux set to depressing music, and when she saw herself on the screen she flicked the TV off instantly.

A knock at the door made her jump with nerves. “Lux, its time.”

She smiled and nodded, letting out a long breath as she began to follow the stagehand through the hallways, half-listening to him talk while the other half of her paid attention to getting her in-ear monitors in correctly as someone patted powder on her cheeks to get rid of any shine.

“Lux!!” She heard someone yell behind her and she whipped around to see Sara standing with Niall, smiling brightly. “Go get 'em, cowgirl!!”

Lux threw her head back and laughed loudly at the bittersweet memory of Niall and Sara catching her straddling Harry like a horse in the studio, the moment right before they had their first kiss.

The smile didn't leave her face as she stood side-stage, taking the microphone from the stagehand with a smile and nod, looking down at it to see that its been bedazzled to match her outfit. Her eyes stared down at the ground as she said a quick, silent prayer, listening to Steve announce their duet, listening to the crowd begin to cheer loudly, and then listening to Harry begin to sing.

That's when she opened her eyes.

When I look into your eyes
It's like watching the night sky

He stared out at the crowd as he began to sing softly, his voice low and deep and pitch perfect. Her entire body was covered in goosebumps immediately.

Or a beautiful sunrise
Well, there's so much they hold

Lux walked out onto stage slowly, trying not to squint in the bright lights, listening to the crowd begin to clap again as she walked into view. Harry turned to look at her as he sang his last line, and she saw his eyes visibly lighten up at the sight of her. He smiled slowly, finishing his part as she stepped toward him slowly, seemingly gliding across the stage to him. Her voice started out soft, quiet. Almost insecure in a way, but it was still hauntingly beautiful.

And just like them old stars
I see that you've come so far

Her eyes stayed locked with Harry's, despite the producer's previous advice that she should make eye contact with the audience to connect with them. She only wanted to connect with Harry during this song. He was who she was singing to.

To be right where you are
How old is your soul?

He held his hand out to her and she touched his palm softly, allowing him to tighten his grip on her and pull her closer to him. She held her microphone to her mouth, but her and Harry were so close at this point that they could have shared one mic. His eyes sparkled when they looked into hers, and she felt like she was baring her entire soul to him on this stage, begging him to take it. To take her.

Well, I won't give up on us
Even if the skies get rough
I'm giving you all my love
I'm still looking up

He grinned at her as she backed away from him slowly, putting some space between their bodies as they sang the next few lines. He knew he shouldn't stare at her during the entire performance, but since he laid his eyes on her, he hasn't been able to look away. He just can't. His entire being felt overwhelmed with love for this girl, to the point where he didn't know how to properly function.

And when you're needing your space
To do some navigating
I'll be here patiently waiting
To see what you find

This was it. This was Harry's favorite part in their duet, and he could feel shivers through his body as Lux stepped away from him and sang. Her eyes weren't on him because they were closed lightly, her passion for Harry and for the song and for her music career coming through her performance. She threw everything she had into that verse, belting it out like Harry had never heard before.

'Cause even the stars they burn
Some even fall to the earth
We've got a lot to learn
God knows we're worth it
No, I won't give up

He couldn't help himself and stared at her in awe as she sang, his lips parted gently and his eyes wide in shock at how strong her voice was. He wasn't expecting her to fail, but he didn't think her voice would sound so...perfect. He was wonderstruck by Lux, once again. It seems to always come back to this. He didn't have time to continue to stare at her, because they moved right onto the next part of the song, Lux doing it with barely any time to breathe. She didn't seem at all affected.

I don't wanna be someone who walks away so easily
I'm here to stay and make the difference that I can make

Harry would never love anyone the way he loves her. He realized this as she moved back over to him, singing directly to him instead of to the audience, doing exactly as he was doing. He barely had time to lift his hand to her before she was reaching for his as well, and they met somewhere in the middle. Kind of like when they fight. They reach out and pull back, but always find a middle ground. They always touch base.

Our differences they do a lot to teach us how to use
The tools and gifts we got yeah, we got a lot at stake

Lux felt a pull toward him, something like a magnet, something she wasn't aware that anyone was capable of feeling. She moved to him without a second thought, she placed her hand in his without a blink, every move she made felt like it was natural and normal. She knew being this attached to someone wasn't normal, but in that moment she cared about nothing more than looking into his eyes as she sang. She fed off his power and strength, allowing him to make her strong and whole again.

And in the end, you're still my friend at least we did intend
For us to work we didn't break, we didn't burn

When Harry listed this song as an option for them to sing, Lux didn't want to do it. She said it was too popular of a song, it wasn't a real duet, they would have to tweak it too much. All he needed was one verse, whisper-singing it into her ear when they were cuddled up in bed, and she melted. She knew instantaneously that it was the perfect song for them, that the lyrics were too fitted to their situation for them to NOT sing it. She had doubts at first, but with a little of Harry's magic, they were all washed away.

We had to learn how to bend without the world caving in
I had to learn what I've got, and what I'm not
And who I am

As Lux finally looked away from Harry and out at the crowd, at the judges, she knew they made the right choice. All she saw were covered mouths, parted lips, wide and shiny eyes, tissues being passed around. Her lips formed a smile as she looked back to Harry, touching her fingertips to his, not realizing how it looked to other people. Neither of them were aware that a simple touch of their hands looked more intimate than most passionate kisses between couples.

I won't give up on us
Even if the skies get rough
I'm giving you all my love
I'm still looking up, still looking up

I won't give up

Lux held the last note for as long as she possibly could, and the entire time Harry watched her, his teeth clenched and his eyes dancing along her skin, feeling a familiar burn run through his body. His chest heaved up and down as she lowered her microphone, turning to stare at him with her own heaving chest. He moved over to her again, so close that he could feel and hear the harsh breaths coming from her mouth and onto his skin. Harry reached out and touched her cheek gently, moving his hand back until his fingers were curled into the hair on the side of her head. He moved his microphone to his lips, and without daring to even think about looking away, he finished the song off, staring into Lux's eyes.

I won't give up on us
Even if the skies get rough
I'm giving you all my love
I'm still looking up

He dropped his mic to the ground as his fingers untangled from her hair, pulling far away from her to prevent himself from kissing her. He didn't even realize for a second that they were receiving a standing ovation from the entire audience. Judges included.

The smile that was on Lux's face said a thousand unspoken words. This was her dream, a dream that Harry understood more than anybody because just two years ago, it was his dream as well. What would he have done if someone stomped into his life and demanded that he move to another country to be with them? He would have told them to fuck off, that he was living the dream. He doesn't know, if the positions were switched, that he would go wherever Lux wanted him to go. He would be cruel and selfish, because thats the type of person he is. That's the type of person he was trying not to be for Lux's sake.

But she was so blinded by his love that she didn't see when she was being bullied into doing something that her heart isn't in. Her heart is on this stage, its in those spotlights and with that crowd that's cheering for her. It's in the smile that shines on her face when one of the judges tells her that he has no doubt of her winning this whole competition. And even then, even as they all praised her and her talents, she lifted her microphone to her lips and looked over at him.

“I couldn't have done any of this without Harry.”

And he knew that although Lux thought that was the truth, it wasn't. She could have done this and so much more without Harry. She could conquer the world without Harry. She could move to LA and become a star without Harry. With Harry, all she'll ever have is the back burner to his fame and Holmes Chapel. All she'll be known as is: Lux Gallagher, Harry Styles' girlfriend.

“It's not supposed to be like this.” He heard himself whisper into her ear as the host rattled off the numbers to vote to keep Lux in the competition. She was smiling at the camera, but her eyes flicked over to him for a second after he spoke.

“What?” She asked through her teeth, unable to remove the smile on her face for even one second.

Harry looked at the side of her face, at the smile on her lips and the flush in her cheeks and the sparkle in her eyes, and he knew that he couldn't bring himself to ruin this moment for her right now. If she was happy, he would be happy. Even though he knew that everything was going the wrong way.

“I said I love you.” He whispered, and pressed a hard kiss to the side of her head.

She turned to him then, still beaming that gorgeous smile as she reached out and wrapped her arms around his waist, hugging him tightly to her. He stared down at the top of her head for a second before hugging her back, rubbing her back softly.

“Don't ever forget that, Lux.” He said, pulling back to look down into her eyes, forgetting for a minute that they were still on stage. His eyes burned with something fierce that she wasn't used to seeing from him, so he immediately got her full attention. “Don't ever forget that I love you.”

“Thank you, Lux. Harry. Good job guys.” Steve said, gesturing them toward stage left, where they were supposed to make their exit. They both smiled and nodded at him, heading toward the smiling faces of the other contestants and mentors.

“Why would I ever forget that?” Lux looked up at him as they walked backstage, “Not planning on going away anytime soon, are you?”

She laughed at her own question, not even waiting to hear his answer before she ran off to hug Sara and Niall, leaving him behind, where he stayed to let her enjoy her moment. His eyes lingered on her for a while before he turned away from her for one of the first times that whole day. Harry swallowed harshly, feeling bile rise in his throat as he made a final decision.

“Yeah...” He murmured to himself, “I am.”
