36. Blackout

Lux spent days doing nothing but playing the piano. She would sit in the studio and play until her fingers went numb, the only thought in her mind being the last time she spoke to or saw Harry.

Casey has him now. She has him in her tight grasp and she's not letting go without a fight. Lux knows that if she tries to fight this, Casey will take her stupid phone straight to the producers and then Lux will be sent home. The funny thing is, Lux probably wouldn't even care if she got sent home. Yes, she wants to win this thing, but if that means losing Harry in the process...then what's the point?

She tried so hard to not fall in love with him and somewhere along the road it happened. She fell, and she fell hard, scraping her heart on the concrete along the way. She didn't even care though, because being around Harry, having him as her best friend and mentor, it was worth all the pain.

So Lux figured she has two options: 1. Give up and go home so she can finally be with Harry; or 2. Fight for him like she's never fought for anything in her life.

Lux went with option #2.

It started with Casey's shampoo. While she was in the studio, Lux crept up to her bedroom and mixed a lovely green hair dye in with Casey's shampoo. All it really did was tint her hair sea green, but Casey flipped her shit anyways as Lux expected her to.

Next it was her make-up. Lux began to take things and move them somewhere else, just little things at first – her lipsticks, foundation, blush, nail polish... she would move them into random spots not just around her bedroom but also around the house. Casey began to slowly unravel every time she found one of her items in the fridge or the microwave.

Then it was her lotion, which Lux happily mixed itching powder into. Casey spent the next 48 hours itching every inch of her body raw until she finally went to the doctor and got ointment for it, thinking it was a rash of some sort. It took her a week to realize it was her lotion.

So with sea green hair, red itchy skin, and a jumbled brain, Casey became paranoid. Everywhere she went she began to look over her shoulder, searching for someone messing with her. She jumped whenever she spotted Lux staring at her, and her eyes began to look wild and scared.

Lux couldn't care less. Casey was getting exactly what she deserved for making Lux and Harry so miserable, and Lux wanted to do even more, she wanted to push Casey to the edge and make her leave this competition for good. She wanted Casey to run the way she made Harry run from Lux.

Then came the holy grail. Lux was in Casey's room, minding her own business and rearranging some more of Casey's things, hiding them from her and pocketing some to put elsewhere when she spotted Casey's hideous phone charging next to her bed. She knew it was Casey's because the case was cow print, and Lux recognized it instantly. She snatched it up and groaned when she saw that there was a password on it so she couldn't go in and just erase the video and be done. That's all Lux wanted to do.

But since she couldn't, she decided that a little water damage might help achieve her goal.

Lux, without any second thoughts, dropped Casey's phone into the toilet. She felt bad for it after it was done, but honestly Casey deserved all these bad things. Karma always bites you in the ass at the end of the day. Lux dried the phone off with a towel and pressed the power button. To her delight, it wouldn't turn on. She plugged it back in and left the room quickly, hoping that nobody would find out that she was behind all of this.

But as she was leaving, she bumped directly into someone.

Lux and Harry haven't been face to face in a very long 4 days. The only time they saw each other was if they had to film something for the show, which they haven't had to do yet this week.

“So it's you.” He said quietly, “You've been fucking with Casey's stuff.”

Her eyes swept over his body slowly, feeling her heart swell at the sight of him.

“Are you mad?” She whispered, frowning at the stiffness of his face.

Harry let out a low laugh, looking down at his feet for a long time. “No. Why would I be?”

“I don't know... I thought maybe.. you've been.. with her so much lately..” Lux looked away in shame for even thinking these things, and she knew Harry was staring at her again.

“You thought maybe something happened with us? Maybe I'd stick up for her?”

“Yes.” Lux whispered, folding her arms across her chest and feeling her entire body ache at the thought of him with Casey instead of with her.

“Lux, I...” He paused, “I would never do anything to hurt you on purpose...”

“It's just hard, ok? Being without you... seeing you with her.. I.. I haven't been dealing with it very well.” She sighed and rubbed her face, finally looking up into his eyes.

She could feel that something shifted between them in the time they've spent apart. She felt nervous in front of him now, awkward even.. like she didn't know who he was or how he was feeling.

“I broke her phone.” She admitted in a whisper, watching him for a reaction.

His eyebrows raised slowly, his entire body looking as if it relaxed in that very moment.

“Oh Lux..” He moaned, his body falling toward hers and into her arms. She caught him easily, hugging him to her tightly as his embrace tightened as well. “I've been falling apart.. it's been so bad..”

“I know. I know..” She murmured, sighing in relief of holding him again. “It's okay now, though.”

“No. No, it isn't.. I..” His voice broke as he pulled back from their embrace and looked into her eyes. “I.. something happened, Lux.. not with Casey.... never with her.. but..”

Lux felt her body move backwards automatically, her entire body beginning to shake.

“With who?” She heard herself whisper, but it didn't even feel like she was speaking.

“Her roommate.” He frowned, looking down again. So that's why things are awkward with him.

“No..” Lux whimpered, shaking her head. “It's been 4 days, Harry.. only 4 days..”

“I know.” He turned away from her and clenched his fists, hanging his head. “It just happened..”

“You slept with her?” Lux tried to swallow the lump in her throat but it wouldn't go down.

“Yes.” He whispered, “It didn't mean anything, Lux... it just happened.. I don't..”

“You don't what?” She whispered with tears falling down her cheeks, “You don't care about her?”

“No. I don't.” He confirmed, shaking his head.

“You don't care about me either.” Lux backed away again, beginning to move further away from him.

“What?!” He whipped his head around to look at her, “That's not true, Lux. I care about you more than anything.. I.. I'm in....I..”

“You what, Harry?” She asked, waiting with her back to him for him to finish his sentence.

“I..” He paused again, “I l..like you a lot, Lux..”

She smiled and shook her head slowly, “Yeah, that's what I thought.”

“Don't do this right now, Lux. Please.” He begged, grabbing her hand only so she could yank it back.

“I need to go.” She said, walking away quickly. She waited to hear him yell after her or try to stop her from leaving him, but there was nothing. Lux turned her head back to look at him and saw why.

Harry was on the floor, his body a crumpled pile, his limbs thrown out at random and his skin starkly pale. It took her a second to realize that his eyes were shut, and that's when she began to run.

“Harry!” She screamed, sliding along the floor to reach him. She collapsed next to him and reached out to his face, touching his cheeks lightly and feeling sweat. He was clammy and cold.

“Someone help!!” She was screaming, feeling for his pulse and shaking him, trying to wake him up.

His eyes fluttered lightly, opening halfway to look up at her.

“Harry... Harry, what happened? What's wrong with you?” She asked, feeling her tears falling even faster. He blinked for a second before his eyes fell shut once more, his lips parting slowly.

“Harry.. please...” She cried, “You have to be okay. You have to. I.. I love you.”

She felt someone pry her away from his body as people gathered in around him, putting him onto a stretcher and putting an oxygen mask over his face. She could feel him take her heart away with him as he went in the ambulance.

“Lux, what happened?” Everyone, producers and contestants, crowded around her, and she felt her throat begin to close up as everyone began to ask her questions about it.

“I don't... I don't know..” She kept saying but they kept asking her more and more.

“Lux? Lux, you look pale. Maybe you should sit down.” Liam's voice shone through, and before they could all begin to back up and give her some space, Lux felt her knees weaken.

Everything went black.
