15. Alone

Lux ended up being safe in the competition that same night she got into the blow up with Harry, but she was broken up over Josh's band getting eliminated. Although they were fighting, she still quite adored him and cried when he left. That on top of fighting with Harry made her stay in bed the whole next day, and everyone left her to it.

Days passed slowly, until a whole week went by and another live show was right around the corner. There was just one little problem. Harry and Lux are still avoiding one another like the plague. Neither of them have tried to, or even want to, fix things. Lux found it easier to concentrate on the competition with no distractions, even if that distraction was a beautiful, curly haired boy. Harry's demeanor turned cold toward mostly everyone, and he kept to himself more than ever, not wanting to speak to anyone about anything.

It was Mentor's Choice week, so Harry decided what song Lux has to sing this week, and despite the two of them fighting, he searched long and hard for a song that worked for her. He wanted something a little upbeat but not too much, and after a lot of thinking he decided on the popular Rolling In The Deep by Adele.

Now, he only has to bite his ego back and tell her that it's time to rehearse.

Harry headed to her bedroom with the lyrics clutched in his hands, which he found were clammy. He wrinkled his nose in disgust and wiped them off on his pants before reaching her door. Before he could raise his fist to knock, he spotted the sign on the door, and as he read it over, he chuckled.

Here we go again.

Harry pounded on the door with his fist, “LUUUUUXXXX!”

“You have to come out to do that, don't ya love?!” He laughed, still banging on the door.

“Sara.. Sara.. Sara don't! No!” The door swung open and Lux's roommate Sara glared at him.

“Is Lux in, please?” Harry smiled warmly, tilting his head slightly and folding his hands behind his back. Sara stared for a moment but slowly smiled back, unable to resist his dimpled cheeks.

“Lux... Lux... it's for you...” Sara said lightly, her voice slightly breathy as she stared at Harry.

“I want a roommate transfer.” Lux huffed out as she came to the door, her arms folded across her chest tightly. Her dark eyes met Harry's and they softened, seeing him up close for the first time in a week.

“I'll be your roommate, gladly.” He smirked, watching her squint in frustration at him. “But I have a no clothing allowed rule so... there's that.”

“In your dreams, Styles. What do you want?” Lux sighed, reaching up to rub her forehead.

“Rehearsal. Meet me on stage in five.” He said, holding up the song.

“The stage? Why not the studio?” She asked, and he shrugged.

“Just feel like seeing you on stage again.” He stated casually, stopping and eying her slowly.

“Well, I'm ready now. I'll go with you.” She said, shutting her door and following him.

He turned to watch her walk toward him to catch up, and as he did he looked at what little clothing she was wearing. She had on tiny denim shorts, dark thigh high socks, black converse, and a tiny, nearly see-through tank top. He shook his head, yanking his purple Jack Wills hoodie over his head and tossing it at her.

“Put that on.” He growled, turning and beginning to walk away without her.

“Why?” She asked, pulling it on anyways.

“Because what you have on is tiny and I don't want anyone to see you dressed like that. I could practically see your nipples, you know.” He stated, shaking his head.

“Oh well.” She shrugged, “As if you've never seen boobs before.”

“I've seen plenty, just none as small as yours.” He smirked back at her.

Lux felt her feet come to a stop, and she closed her eyes, slowly taking deep breaths.

“He's stupid, he's stupid, he's stupid. Ignore him.” She whispered to herself, beginning to walk again.

“I like my boobs just fine.” She said as she passed him by, nudging his shoulder with her own.

“Good for you, babe. Confidence is key, ain't it?” He smirked, nudging her back.

“You would know, you've got enough of it for your entire band.” Lux muttered, pulling the door open and stepping out. She immediately put on a smile because she knew cameras would be waiting for a glimpse of the One Direction boys doing something scandalous.

She squeezed through the paps with Harry right behind her, heading to the car that was waiting to take them to the arena where X-Factor is taped.

All this effort when there's a perfectly good studio in the house. Stupid Harry and his stupid ideas. Lux scoffed to herself as she got into the backseat, watching him climb in after her.

“Aw, crap. We're dating.” Lux sighed heavily, pulling at his hoodie.

“What?” Harry looked completely confused.

“They're going to start dating rumors because you made me wear your gay purple hoodie.” She groaned, rolling her eyes. “Just what we need.”

“Oh who cares. I've had worse girls paired up with me before.” Harry shrugged, draping his arm over the back of the seat. His fingertips brushed against the back of her neck and she felt her hair stand on end all over.

“Why, I think that was almost a compliment, Harry Styles. I'm almost flattered.” She turned a little toward him, meeting his eyes and batting her eyelashes.

His eyes softened as she looked at him, and his 'accidental' touching of the back of her neck turned into a full blown stroke. He gently massaged the nape of her neck, tangling the soft hairs that fell free from her sloppy bun around his fingers. She tilted her head slightly, letting his fingers work for a second before moving and slapping his hands away from her.

“I'm still mad at you.” She whispered, looking away from him and out the window.

He sighed loudly, opening his mouth to speak but shutting it right away and looking out his own window. They sat like that, in awkward silence, for the duration of the short ride to the arena. The car stopped and Harry climbed out first, holding his hand out to Lux to help her down. She ignored it and jumped down herself, moving into the arena without waiting for him.

“Awesome! This is going to be so fun!” He shouted out to her as she walked away, but all he got was her middle finger tossed into the air as the arena door slammed behind her.

And once again, Harry was alone.
