1. My Highlight of 2012

My highlight of 2012 might seem a little insignificant to some people, but to me, it was the best thing that ever happened to me and I’d like to share it with you.

Early on in the year – probably about March – I came across the soundtrack for Transformers: Dark of the Moon and thought it was an awesome album, however, one track really stuck out. It wasn’t particularly different or even that interesting, but something about it just made me really like it. That song was The Only Hope For Me Is You by My Chemical Romance.

I started to look up the band’s other music on YouTube and realised that it was amazing! Then I started to read up on the band and watch interviews. Naturally, I ended up getting into the fanbase and sharing my love for the band with other fans.

People’s perception of My Chemical Romance is usually pretty negative: They’re usually seen as just another bunch of “emos” who supposedly sing about depression, etc, but really, they’re very inspirational. A lot of people say that My Chemical Romance saved their lives, and while I can’t really go that far, I can definitely say that they’ve changed my life – They made me realise that it’s okay to be different and that I shouldn’t try to change myself in order to fit in... That I shouldn’t be ashamed or embarrassed of who I am and what I like, which I feel is very important to me.

I feel happy when I listen to My Chem’s music; my favourite album is The Black Parade and my three favourite songs are The Kids From Yesterday, Famous Last Words and The World is Ugly (From their new Conventional Weapons albums – another few awesome memories of 2012 with a few more left for early 2013!). Their music makes me feel happy, safe, like it’s all okay... I’ve never found another band that can make music with the same effect on me.

I’m so happy that I found my favourite band, and through their music I’ve discovered a lot more amazing bands that I really love!

Overall, 2012 wasn't too bad – Here’s to more good memories made in the next twelve months!
