7. Whatever it Takes

Niall's POV

“Olivia! Why did you do that!?” I yell at her through clenched teeth. Jessi is trying her best to clean herself up, though it's no use, whilst Olivia and I argue.

“Because she was going to kiss you!” she yells back.

“So! What if I wanted her to!?”

“Well you shouldn't!”

“Niall!” someone comes running up to us. I turn and see Liam and his girlfriend – Lena. “Dude I thought I told you not to talk to Olivia while we're here? People think you've gone crazy.”

Lena looks at him awkwardly and then back to me, but then...her eyes dart to Olivia. “You must be Niall's friend. I'm Lena, and you are?” She sticks out her hand to Olivia and she takes it.

“Olivia, and yes, Niall's friend.”

“Olivia! That's such a beautiful name. And you're so pretty!”

Okay, what's going on here? Obviously, she can see Olivia like I can. Liam's eyes get wide as he realizes she can see her. “Let's go, Lena,” he says and drags her away from us. I glance around the room looking for Jessi, but she's no where to be found.

“I can't believe you,” I say as I turn to Olivia. “We were having a nice time until you screwed it up! What the hell is the matter with you?! Jessi was just trying to have a nice time and you ruined it for her. And for me...”

“Niall, I –”

“Save it.” I find Jessi on the balcony crying with her face crushed into her knees. She looks so heartbroken and damaged. Her echoing sobs are like knives to my heart as I sit beside her and wrap my arms around her shoulders. “It's okay, baby,” I whisper softly into her ear.

“No it's not!” she yells through her tears. “She always does that!”

“Spills drinks on you?”

“No! She always messes everything up! Every boyfriend I had, every opportunity. She always found a way to turn the attention on her at my expense!”

For a while I thought that Jessi and Olivia got along great, but now I'm starting to re-think their entire relationship. “She's still your sister regardless. You still love her.” She raises up and dries her eyes with the back of her hands.

“I do, don't I?” She giggles. “Somehow I've missed her always messing with me. But actually, I think she did it because she likes you.”

“What? Noooo, that's not it.”

“Come on, Niall. You're a gorgeous guy with an insanely sexy Irish accent. She'd be crazy not to like you.”

My blank face turns to a smile as I say, “You really think I'm gorgeous?”

“Did I say that?” She laughs.

“You did,” I reply.

“Oh my god, I didn't mean it in a creepy way, I just –”

I kiss her then, so forcefully that she collapses into my arms as our lips move together with innocent passion and grace. Every stroke of her tongue is like fire to my soul, and I swear that in this moment she became mine. Forever.

Never do I want her to stop with these feelings she's giving me. Nothing matters anymore. My career, Olivia, the guys, the situation we're in...it all slips away from my mind while she takes me to places I've never been before.

Unfortunately, she pulls away and wipes the lipstick from my face. “I'm sorry,” she laughs.

“Don't be.” I start to kiss her again, but I see someone just out of the corner of my eye. A girl. Crying, with the saddest look upon her beautiful face. I look at her and she turns angry. So angry that I can feel the hatred radiating off of her.

This cannot be good.

Olivia's POV

I'm tormented by what I see. It's like a shadow has come over me and my whole entity is being enveloped by heartache and shame. My sister means everything to me, but I just can't let her have Niall like this. I called dibs! I saw him first! She wouldn't even been here if it weren't for me!

Suddenly, my mind darts to December, 2011, and Brian. How I loved him so and he took everything away from me. The chance to live, the opportunity to have a career and a family. He stripped me of everything I ever loved, and shattered whatever chance I could have had with Niall if I were alive. Then again, if I wasn't dead, I would have never met him, right? Or maybe, dead or alive, we were meant to meet each other.

I can't help but think we're SUPPOSED to be together, and I'll do whatever it takes to get that.

Whatever it takes.

Jessi's POV

I've never been one to judge, especially my sister. But, what she did was wrong and words cannot describe how angry I am with her. However, Niall is right. She is my sister, and I love her no matter what. That being said, I've decided to call the investigator to see why she's being the way she is, why this can be “dangerous,” and why Niall can see her...and apparently Lena too.

Please talk to me. The notepad on my laptop says.

“I don't have anything to say to you, Olivia.”

Say something, anything. Insult me if you want to. I don't care, but I want you to know how sorry I am.

“Fine, you're a selfish bitch.”

Okay, I guess I deserve that. But look, you have to understand that I was just caught up in the moment. I love you and I'm just afraid he's gonna hurt you.

“Stop lying. You're jealous.”

Okay. Maybe I am, so what? He's the best thing that's ever happened to me and you're ruining it.

“Am I? Well, it just so happens that I have feelings for him, and he has feelings for me. He chose me, not you. Get over it.”

That isn't fair.

“Life isn't fair, Olivia. You have to realize that even though you're still here, you're not alive. You can't have a real relationship with Niall. But, I can, and I intend to.”

She'll probably be mad at me forever now, but I have my own life to live. I'm not going to walk on eggshells wondering if she'll accept the things I do or not. I close the laptop and walk into the kitchen to Andrea who stands over the counter eating a bowl of fruit.

“Did you talk to her?” she asks.

“Yes, and she's being inconsiderate as usual. I don't know what I'm going to do.”

“I wonder if she's still here...”

“Probably not; I think I pissed her off. But anyway, what happened with you and Harry last night? You guys disappeared by the end of the dinner. Kind of worried me.” She gives me a smirk and I know exactly what happened. “Andrea, you didn't!”

She laughs and raises her bottle of water in the air. “To the slut!” she says, and takes a big gulp.

“You disgust me,” I joke.

“Hey, it's all fun and games. Andrea Garner is officially Harry's bitch, and I'll never complain. What about you? Did you and Niall...ya know?” She nudges me playfully.

“Absolutely not!” I say. “I'm not that kind of girl.”

“Oh, you have so much to learn, young grasshopper. You have to soon, though, or he'll just break up with you.”

“We're not dating.”

“That's where you're wrong, my friend. If a guy puts that much emotion into kissing you, that means he's basically asking you out. If you return it, you accept. So, there you have it.”

“Still,” I reply, “he's not going to break up with me just because I'm not sleeping with him.”

“Wrong again!” she laughs. “Think of a guy as a piece of fruit.” She picks up a strawberry from her bowl and shows it to me. “After you get it, you have to eat it soon or it'll go bad.”

“That's not a good metaphor.”

“But you understand it. Niall is a piece of fruit, and if he doesn't get what he wants, he'll just find another girl to give it to him.”

“I know for a fact that he's not in this so he can get laid.” I defend him but she continues to disagree. But, maybe she's right. Niall is frankly a guy, and guys do tend to like sex. If I don't give in and give it up, he actually might push me away. “But...I'm not ready for that.”

“None of us are,” she replies, “until it happens.”

So, there you have it.

Sunny days seem to hurt the most, I wear the pain like a heavy coat. I hear my ringtone blaring from the counter, and pick it up immediately. “It's the investigator!” I say, pressing answer. “Hello?”

“Yes, Jessica Adams?”

“This is she.”

“Hi, my name is Paul. I'm one of the investigators from Paranormal Trackers, and I'm calling to talk to you about your sister, Olivia. Your scenario is something we barely get. In fact, I only remember one other case like this that we've dealt with. However, these cases are extremely dangerous, and I encourage you to stay as far away from this entity as possible until we can investigate.”

“Why is that?” I ask, curious as to why this is so 'dangerous.'

“It's very complex, but these entities are only good at first. Their emotions are much stronger than that of a normal ghost, and they have no control over what they do or say. Once she snaps, she becomes very sinister and frightening. The reports of these spirits have ranged anywhere from scratches, to actual murder of the people who can see them.”

To the people that can see them.

I look at Andrea with fear, and I can see she's thinking the same thing. “Oh god,” she says, “Niall.....”
