38. Not Your Fault

The first thing that I see is the color white. For a moment I struggle to remember what happened and then I remember that I fainted from seeing a flashback of how my parents died. I try to figure out why all I'm seeing is the color white when I realize I'm staring at the ceiling.

It's then that I see Zayn's head hovering over mine. "Are you okay?" He asks me.

"Mhm," I say softly looking at his chocolate brown eyes. I sit up and look down to where I was just laying. I feel my eyes widen as I figure out that my pillow was Zayn's lap. "Where is everyone?" I question him.

"They went home," He answers.

"Emily and Belle?" I ask.

"Went to stay with Harry and Niall for the night," He responds.

"Damn they work fast," I mumble.

"What?" He asks.

"Nothing," I reply, getting up.

"Charlotte I need to talk to you," He says.

"Whatever it is, it can wait until I get some tea," I tell him, heading to the kitchen. I put a kettle on and sit on the counter. Zayn follows me, and stands in front of me.

"Charlotte," He begins.

"Well that doesn't sound good," I reply.

"Keep in mind that while I tell you this, it wasn't your fault," He says. I narrow my eyes and he places his hands on either side of my legs. "When the accident first happened, you blamed yourself. You told Emily a worse version than what had happened, and in her grief, Emily began to blame you herself. Because Emily thought it was your fault, she ignored you. While Emily was ignoring you, you found Josh and that's when the dominoes began to fall," He speeches.

"Emily ignored me because it was my fault," I repeat.

"No." He says. "It wasn't your fault," He insists.

"But I distrac-"I start.

"Look Charlotte. We called in a favor with Simon. The people who looked into the accident for us said that it wasn't your dad's fault of the crash. The people who smashed into your car would've smashed into it even if you hadn't distracted him," He tells me.

"You are being completely honest with me?" I ask. He nods. "Then why did Em ignore me?" My voice cracks.

"Because I'm an idiot," Em's voice comes from the other side of the kitchen door.

"I thought you were at Niall's," I reply, getting off track.

"I decided half way there that I wanted to come back," She answers. "And Charlotte words can't describe how upset I am with myself for ignoring you when it wasn't your fault. It's my fault that you started cutting and that you ended up with Josh," She adds.

"I need time to let everything sink in. I'm going to bed," I say completely forgetting about my tea.

"You should sleep at Niall's. I don't think it'd be good to be smothered by everyone tonight," I hear Zayn tell her behind me. I sit on the stairs out of sight as I wait for her to leave.

"Don't even recognize the ways you hurt me, do you? It's gonna take a miracle to bring me back're the one to blame,"
