2. Chapter 1

Chapter 1

January Sunday

"Cassie," I sang. "If you turn that garbage you call music off I'll sing for you." I say coldly. Referring to that band she calls One Direction. I didn't like them but I didn't hate them.

"Alright. But I get to pick the song!" Cassie exclaims excitedly.

"Fine. What song do you want me to sing?" I ask.

"Never Grow Up. By: T. Swizzle," Cassie says. "I love that song,"

I love that song too. I didn't want to grow up. I knew that Cassie didn't either. I wanted to stay 16 forever. I didn't want to worry about the taxes, paying for gas, or watching the kids. I look at the walls that belonged to my best friend. They were covered with poster after poster of the same exact boy band that Cassie loved. One Direction.

"Alright Cassie," I sigh.

"Your little hands wrapped around my finger and it's so quiet in the world in the world tonight." I sang. "Your little-"

"Boys, look at that girl right here," Niall says, pointing to Jessica on a tiny monitor.

"Cause' your dreaming so I tuck you in turn on your favorite nightlight." Jessica continues.

"She sounds great!" Louis exclaims.

"I agree!" Liam says.

"She's not bad looking either," I chime.

The boys turn and glare at me.

"She sings good too!" I cower.

"Quick guys! What's her name?" Niall asks.

"Wait guys." I cut in. "She looks really fami- Oh my gawd!"

"What's wrong Hazza?" Liam asks.

"She my- my- sister!" Harry exclaims.

"No way!" Niall gasps.

"Yah! The brown, curly hair, the green eyes! That's my sister!'' I announce..

"Oh darlin' don't you ever grow up. Don't you ever grow up. Just stay this simple." Jessica continues singing.

"Prove it," Liam says.

"Her names Jessica," I say instantly. "Her real name should be Jessica Styles but, she and I were separated after my dad died in a car accident when she 5 and I stayed with my mom. I don't know what her last name is now though." I frown.

"Oh," Liam says. "Sorry Haz,"

"Come on guys," Niall says. "Lets show her to Simon before she finishes singing." We rush to get Simon.

"Simon! Simon!" We chorus.

"We found somebody!" We rush Simon to the screen and point to her.

"Her!" Harry says.

"So here I am in my, new apartment, in the big city they just dropped me off. It's so much colder than I, though it would be so I tuck myself in and turn my nightlight on." Jessica sings.

"Guys! She sounds great! We definitely need to call her. You know Harry, she looks a lot like you." Simon says.

"You have no idea," I mumble.

"So what's her name?" Simon asks.

"Jessica," I say.

"Look to see where the camera is filming from." Simon says.

"It's filming in- hey that's not far from here," Niall says.

"Well boys," Simon says. "Lets go find her!"

"Never grow up." I finish the song.

Cassie claps enthusiastically and I bow. "Thank you. Thank you." I boast.

My phone begins to ring.

"Hello?" I answers it.

"Jessica, you need to come home. There's people here to see you!" My sister Samantha squeals happily. "Some very HOT people!"

"Be there in a sec Sam," I sigh and hang up.

"Gotta go Cass," I say. "Apparently there are some 'HOT' people at my house."

"Okay then. See ya Jess," Cassie says.

When I get home, I see a curly headed kid talking to my mom and Sam hanging all overa kid with black hair. I get a good look at his face and frown. Really? Seriously? This is not happening. No! No! One Direction is not at my house. No! Just. No!

"Jessica, I know this is very bad timing you know with me going on my business trip and all but, this is your brother." My mom says. Pointing to the curly headed kid. What? I guess I kinda look like him. The curly brown hair. Green eyes. What am I saying!

My mom says words that make me want to cry.

"I'm not your real mom Jessica,"

"What?" I cry. All the time I've thought she was my mom. But she not. I'm not Jessica Mark? That's all I've ever know myself as. For all I know my real name might not be Jessica!

"While I'm on my business trip, I want you to stay with Harry and the boys. Just so you can see your mom. I've got your bags packed while you were gone. You were supposed to be going to your Aunt G- I mean Grace's house. Change of plan," She says. Almost in tears. What am I suppose to call her now? Jean? That's her real name anyway.

"O-ok," is all I manage to say. "G-goodbye then,"

"Bye Jessica," she says handing me my luggage and my backpack for school.

I hop into the back of the car and slip in my chair. Luckily I had a hat so I pulled it over my eyes so they wouldn't see that I was crying. The tears steam down my face when I think of not knowing my real mom for 11 years and thinking that Jean was my mom. 11 years! How could I not know? How could I just think that Jean was my mom the whole time? Harry sat down next to me.

"What's wrong Jessica? Why are you crying?" He asks.

"I'm not crying!" I yell. Turning away from him.

"Is it because you haven't known mom for 16 years?" He asks me.

"Yah," I say.

"Do you wanna know why your really here? We forgot to tell you." He says. "The posters in your friend Cassie's room-" I cut him off.

"How do you know I have a friend named Cassie?" I ask. Raising an eyebrow.

"Let me finish. The posters in your friends room, have his hidden cameras in them. We have them there to find new people who can sing. We saw you through the camera in a poster." He says.

"So you just spy on people?" I ask.

"Well it only sounds creepy when you put it like that." He says.

I can't help but laugh. I guess I don't have to hate Harry. He is my brother. I guess. It may take some getting used to but, this might work.

"So what's your name Love?" Louis asks once we get to their house.

"Jessica Marks," I say, angrily. It's their fault I'm here. I mean before I disliked them but now, I hate them!

"You'll get to meet mum tomorrow." Harry says. Obviously trying to soften the mood

"Sounds great," I say sarcastically. "I get to meet the person who pushed me away in place of you and the person I haven't met for 16 years!"

"Well anything sounds terrible when you put it like that." Harry says. It reminded me of when he said: "Well it only sounds creepy when you put it like that."

"So Jessica. Tell us about yourself." Liam says.

"What is there to know about me?" I say coldly. "I'm an open book."

"Do you not trust us?" Niall asks. Obviously hurt.

"I just don't like to talk about it," I sigh.

"Do you not like us?" Harry asks.

"Should I? It's your guys fault I'm crying! It's your fault that I'm mad! That I'm remembering what happened that made me like this!" I yell.

"Well. That was.... harsh." Niall chokes.

I wasn't sorry for saying it. I meant it. If they wouldn't have been spying on people, I wouldn't be like this!

"That brings my spirits down," Harry sighs.

Okay now I was sorry for saying it.Only for Harry though. As I said before, I don't have to hate Harry.

"I'm sorry Harry," I say. "I just didn't want to leave Jean,"

"Hey guys! Can we get some food?" Niall asks.

"Yah, what do you want to eat Jessica?" Harry asks.

"Spaghetti sounds nice," I reply.

"Spaghetti, coming up!" Louis announces.

After I finish my food, I walk off to bed. I just want to forget about today for now.
