Everything Has Changed

It's funny how love can change someone. There's no warning. No hints, no heads-up. Deny it if you choose, but it's a fact. No matter who you are, what your age, or where you're from, love will change you whether it's for better or for worse. How do I know? I've seen it happen. To others, to me, and believe it or not, it will happen to you.

1. Cute.

I met Harry in the middle of my freshman year. He was friends with my brother, Ryan. Ryan was a junior, and Harry was a sophomore. They were pretty inseparable. They did everything together and I'll admit it, Harry was very cute. His curly brown hair and his emerald green eyes. His full pink lips stretched into a stunning smile, and when Harry smiled, his dimples took form on either side of his face. Seeing that boy smile gave me butterflies.

Harry met Ryan through soccer. I'd been to a few of Ryan's games and I'd seen Harry, but I'd never talked to him. Harry was an outstanding goalie. They'd come home together nearly every night after practice, laughing about some stupid joke and reeking of sweat. Ryan and Harry usually just sat around and played video games while I lounged around the house studying or reading.

My room is next to Ryan's so I could always hear their muffled voices through the thin wall shouting "Shoot! Shoot!" "What the hell are you doing?!" "COVER ME, I'M GOING IN!" in the midst of their video games. Harry had invited me to join in on the game, but I declined. instead I sat on the floor a few feet away from Harry and watched them play instead.

I'd never gotten much of a chance to really talk with Harry. We exchanged quick hello's here and there with the occasional small talk, but our conversations never really exceeded a few minutes. In a way, I think I was almost afraid to talk to him. I was terrified of embarrassing myself in front of someone like him. So, I guess to an extent, you could say I actually avoided him.

Harry was a sweet guy, don't get me wrong. I just didn't think he'd ever have even the slightest interest in me. I mean, why would he ever have an interest on me? I'm a freshman. I'm the younger, annoying sibling of his best friend. I was practically conditioned to think that I didn't have a chance in hell. I've never been popular with the guys.

But something about Harry kept me reeled in. I knew I had no chance with him, but that didn't keep me from wanting him. I was constantly thinking about him. His eyes, his lips, his smile. The way his brown hair formed perfect ringlets around his face, even the low, raspy sound of his voice. I liked everything about him.
