Note To Self

Jesse has a perfectly normal life until her and her boyfriend, Noah, get invited to an old best friend's birthday party. Jesse will have to live the next 18 years with her precious gift, but what happens when she has her worst nightmare. Is it just a dream or is it her future?

1. One

Today marks one year of dating Noah Wilde. He was packing his bags to go to Bali for the week. "Business meeting." I look up and Noah is standing over me smiling. "Just in case you need the reassurance." As much as my trust issues have affected me in the past year, I had to get use to him being away from me. Kind of. See, Noah Wilde isn't as ordinary as you may think. He lingers on every word and brushes his teeth from right to left. Weird, right? In all reality, he grew up without seeing his parents hardly ever, but remained the most popular guy in high school. Noah made out with every girl that gave him attention. From rags to riches. I, on the other hand, kept my distance. I knew Noah Wilde had a reputation, and although he was very dreamy, I kept my absence with Noah for a long time.

"Jesse" I focus from my daze and make eye contact with Noah. "Are you okay?" He says looking down at me. I'm spread across his comforter dwelling on the fact that I will be eating Chinese takeout and reading Mara Dyer for the next ten days with no Noah Wilde in sight. "Of course" I answer. I know that he can tell my voice is shallow and the not-so-looking-forward-to-this face is obvious. "Jess, I can read you better than the palm of my hand." There it was. Maybe he could read me better than himself, or maybe I just make things too known. "I'm afraid something will happen to you." I lie. Although I was panicked that something might happen to him, I was afraid something would also happen to me. He's aware of my trust issues, but I didn't want to start an argument before he left. "I'll be fine, Jess." He leaned down and kissed my forehead. I rub my hand across his face and behind his ear while staring at the one thing I was fortunate to have. Maybe Noah Wilde did have a horrible past with an exceeded amount of girls, but that is one thing about him that has been alternated.

"We'll see." I add as I shove five pairs of shoes into Noah's suitcase. "You know, you're basically a girl." I say while still pushing the shoes down to fit into his overflowing bag.

"Likewise." He states. "So what will my witty, but derisive girlfriend be doing during my retreat?"

What an ironic question, Noah Wilde. What will she be doing? That's right, sweating bullets the moment he leaves, overthinking for the next two hundred and forty hours, and establishing an unending amount of scenarios in my head that Noah has promised me won't happen. "Probably staying with Alex." I didn't lie that time. Alex is Noah's brother. We had been best friends before I even knew Noah existed. I knew my fear of him being gone would aid with Alex's presence.

"Don't have too much fun without me." He chuckles.

"Likewise." I mock his comment from earlier. "Ready?"

"As ready as I ever will be." He smiles. Maybe he was, but I wasn't. Screw Noah's dad for being a CEO and talking him into this. His dad lived on the other side of their four story house and never shared a relationship with Noah or Alex. He was always out of the country for business trips.I knew Noah would be okay, I just wasn't certain that I would be.
