The True Emotion Games

(Just so you know, this has nothing, I repeat nothing to do with the Hunger Games. It just happens to have a similar name) When Tess's boyfriend Sam dies, she is broken. And when her ex goes on a killing spree of all of her family, aiming for her next, she feels she has nothing else to live for. But right before she decides to end it all, she joins the True Emotion Games, a competition set up by Love/Hate (after all, they really are the same thing). She now has a purpose, a meaning. Find out what the True Emotion Games are (it's in the prologue, you don't even have to read more, I swear) and how Tess copes with them in the True Emotion Games.

BTW, if you leave a comment telling me the name of your movella, I'll definitely read it! Please give feedback also, if you decide to read it. :)

11. Chapter 10: Caught or Not?

Chapter 10

Tess sat on a wooden bench somewhere on the side of a city park. Cars which were somewhat close whistled by but the noise was muffled. She looked around. Her eyes caught on an autumn leaf drifting down lazily until it finally rested on the ground, it's yellow side facing up. A voice brought her from her thoughts.
"Tess, oh my god, you're actually here!" She looked up to see Sam with surprised eyes. He reached forward to stroke her face but she jumped back. His face crumpled and she raised her index finger at him shakily.
"Demon," she stammered. Sam's face showed pain and devastation.
"No," he croaked. "They've already changed you, you see?" Sam turned away, his fingers raked through his hair while Tess watched him scared, but curious. He turned back abruptly and she flinched and shrunk into herself. "Tess, you might be scared of me but you have to listen-" Sam paused when his form began to shimmer. His eyes popped open more. "They are coming! Tess, watch out and I love yo-!" He disappeared, shouting as he went and his figure changed. A different person sat there now. Trey. Her eyes widened and she jumped up quickly and started to sprint away. Tess heard the footsteps behind her and ran faster. But from experience, she knew it would make no difference. She was no match for him. He caught her arm and spun her around to face him.
"Tess," Trey breathed eerily with a sardonic grin. It had an evil twist to it. Tess was frightened. He grabbed her other arm before she could fight and when she tried to pull away, no matter how hard she tugged, his grip was stronger. The only result fighting got her was him only tightening his hand around her wrist. He lowered his face to hers and she let out a small scream and looked behind herself to try to get him away from her. He chuckled deeply and maneuvered his head to hers instead.
"HELP!!" Tess screamed loudly. But nobody in the park seemed to notice. A glance in his direction told her that he was so close. Barely a few inches. She screamed again and ducked down. He smiled and leaned in... But she kicked him with all of her might. Trey's face became animated with anger and pain and he looked ready to murder. And she was the target. He released his grip slightly and she took the moment to give a final pull away from him. She turned around and started to run, but he put his foot out at the last minute, right in front of her path. She fell with a shrill shriek and she put her hands out to break her fall. It did no good, only hurting both of her wrists. The ground was really pavement and it was painful hitting it at the speed she did. Tess cried out and on instinct brought both hands to her head. Her eyes surveyed her wrists for what the damage was but had to stop because she heard Trey behind her. She couldn't let him get her. She attempted to lift herself off the ground with her elbows but her grabbed her feet and she flopped back onto the pavement. The pain. Oh the pain, it was horrible. Salt ran into her mouth from the tears and a few fell into the bloody scrapes that the fall had earned her. Another cry. This was the end. He crouched down beside her and she felt him put a lock of her hair behind her ear. Tess wanted to hit him. He leaned into her ear and took in a breath, about to whisper something when a sharp cough made both of them look up. Jason. Trey shot up and smoothed his shirt out before regarding Jason.
"Who're you?" Trey asked rudely. Jason barely reacted. He wore a black uniform type thing with a padded black top and a belt that held daggers, swords, and guns, as well as other weapons. Tess stifled a squeak of surprise.
"I'm a guy on a mission," he told Trey simply and before Trey had a chance to blink, Jason pulled out one of the longer swords and sliced it into Trey's heart. Tess let out a shriek as the blade went through Trey cleanly. Jason barely gave her a glance before walking out of the park leaving a stunned Tess and a dead Trey. Trey fell to his knees but before his knees hit the ground, he evaporated. Her eyes widened but the scene glimmered and went out of focus before it faded into blackness.

Tess awoke with a start. Her head had fallen on her open book and the earbuds that had been in her ears were dangling from the picnic table. She lifted them up and turned the music off that had been coming from her iPod. She lifted her head and grimaced at the soreness in her neck. It was a dream. Just a dream. Phew. Tess's stomach growled and Rachel glanced at her.
"Hungry?" she asked. Tess nodded embarrassedly. Rachel took a deep breath before shouting in an extremely loud voice. "Jason! Tess and I are going to eat food. Come down with us right now or suffer a slow and painful death!!" Rachel bellowed. The sound echoed through the forest. And suddenly on the edge of the wood, Jason appeared. He jogged over to the two girls.
"Someone said something about eating food," he said breathlessly looking between the two of them. Tess rolled her eyes after hesitating to look at him. He was wearing what he had been before. No sign of the padded black top and weapon belt. She smiled and snapped her fingers. Suddenly, they were all sitting down at the eating table on the bus instead of the picnic table in The Meadow. Jason and Rachel gasped and Tess shot them a smirk as massive plates blinked in front of the each of them. Rachel gasped again.
"How did you know?!" Rachel exclaimed.
"What do you see?" Tess inquired.
"This dish from a little diner that went out of business ages ago. It was my favorite," she replied softly, staring at the plate wondrously.
"Jason, what do you see?" Tess asked Jason. He swallowed and looked at her nervously.
"N-nothing," he stammered. She gave him a weird look before grinning at both of them.
"This plate puts whatever food you most crave on it." Then, she took a large spoon and helped herself to a big portion. After sleeping, she was hungry. Suddenly, a sharp pain stabbed her wrists. Right where she had fallen in the dream. Tess studied her wrists and after a few moments, saw little pink scrapes. Healing. They were healing. But she had gotten hurt in the dream. Not in real life.
"Tess?" It was Jason. She realized she had a weird look on her face. She looked up and he looked a little nervous and concerned.
"It's just..." she paused. "Look!" Tess shoved her wrists in front of him and he glanced at her like she was crazy.
"Do you see the scrapes on my wrists?" He looked down at them.
"No. Why?" She took her arms back feeling defeated.
"Never mind." Rachel eyed her curiously.
"Let me see," she instructed Tess. Rachel looked at her wrists and her eyes grew wide.
"Oh my god, Tess. What happened?" Tess started to answer but Jason interrupted her.
"What was that noise?" he asked loudly, looking around the room.
"What noise?" Tess wondered aloud.
"There was a noise, I heard it!" Jason exclaimed. They were all silent for a few moments, listening. No noises.
I don't know what you're talking about." Rachel shrugged and took a giant bite of her food. There was no more talking at the table during dinner. Rachel finished first and muttered something about going to her room before leaving. Jason was the same way and only Tess was left to clean up. Vee did it for her and she was glad. She wanted to figure out what the dream was about. A horn blaring ripped her away from her thoughts and got her to jump a mile in the air. Rachel and Jason both sprinted out of their rooms and to her side with looks on their faces that were similar to Tess's reaction.
"What was that?" Rachel asked. Tess shrugged. All of a sudden, a voice filled the room.
"We will be in the first town in ten minutes. Please get ready," the voice said. It was Vee. Tess breathed a sigh of relief.
"Yeah, guys. Lets get ready." Tess smiled. She was ready to see new towns. Start a new life. More ready for that than anything.
