Over Again

Hilary always put people before herself, and did everything for everyone else. She is never good enough for her parents and they won't let her grow up. Along the way, she's gotten hurt so many times that she's built up walls and doesn't let anyone in. When she finally takes a stand against her parents, she runs into a boy who wants to tear down the walls and get closer to Hilary. Will she let him? What will become of the two?

7. Promises

I woke up to an empty room. Niall was gone but beside me was a note with messy words written on it. It read “Went to get some food! Be back later. –Niall” And he put a smiley face on it too. That was sweet. He is sweet. And I couldn’t stop replaying the kiss in my mind. It was just one kiss, but it was so perfect. Was I overthinking it? I don’t want to get too attached. Every time I get attached to someone, they leave. I can’t let this happen again. I have to make sure Niall and I remain just friends. Nothing more. I mean he is a celebrity. Tons of girls love him and he could probably find a girl way better than me. I mean- he WILL find a girl way better than me- probably someone from a beautiful foreign country. Oh well. At least I can stop myself early enough so that I don’t have any major feelings towards him. A door knob jiggling interrupted my thoughts. The door flew open and Niall walked in.

“Well good morning, sleeping beauty” he laughed. “I brought you some breakfast.” He handed me a small bag with food in it.

“Thanks” my voice soft and low. I ate some of the food he had gotten me, and he finished the rest. I don’t understand how that boy can eat so much and have such a perfect body. “Well, I’m going to get dressed and go get a room now.” I grabbed some clothes and headed to the bathroom.

“I mean, you can stay in here with me if you want to save money?” Niall stated but made it seem like a question.

“I’ll get my own room.” I said as I walked in the bathroom to change.

Did I do something? She seemed kind of cold shouldered when I asked her if she wanted to just stay in my room. Was it too soon or too fast? I know I kissed her last night but that was all that happened. It was only the one kiss. Nothing further. Maybe she thinks I want something more. Great! This isn’t what I had intended. I was just making an offer so she doesn’t have to spend money. But I mean, I wouldn’t mind getting to see her for a longer time. She came out of the bathroom all ready.

“Thanks for letting me stay here, Niall.” She grabbed her bag, without looking me in the eye.

“Are you sure you don’t want to stay? I’d love some company.” I told her, trying not to sound desperate. I really hoped she would say yes.

“I’m fine.”

“Well what about going out later? Would you like to go find something to do in town?” I asked.

“I don’t know. We’ll see.” She said softly. What else could she have planned? She ran away.

“Please think about it.” I continued, trying to get her to give in.

“Niall, there will probably be girls all over you if we go out and you’re going to be paying more attention to fans. It wouldn’t be a good idea. Rumors would get started. Just no. I don’t want to go out then be left alone.” She said. My eyebrows frowned as I stared at her. I got up to stand in front of her.

“What the hell are you talking about being left alone? You think that if we go out somewhere that I will leave you behind for my obsessed girl fans?” I was annoyed.

“Why wouldn’t you? So many of them are better than me so I wouldn’t blame you if you left. It just saves me from the pain of being alone.” She argued with me.

“Hilary, are you fucking kidding me right now? You’re trying to push me away when we just started getting to know each other! I thought you trust me?” She bowed her head. I knew I was right- and she did too. She picked her bag back up, with attitude this time, and headed towards the door fast. I stood in her way, blocking her from reaching the door.

“Niall, move.”

“What the fuck do you want, Niall?!” She raised her voice, staring right into my eyes. Her green eyes started to sparkle as water filled them up. I took her face between my hands and she looked away.

“I want you to trust me. I don’t want you to leave and I want you to stop trying to shut me out. I’m not going to let it happen. Stay. Stay here with me please. I promise you that you won’t regret it.” I begged her.

“Why? Why do you want me to stay? You can find any other girl way better than me. I promise you.” Her face looked worried.

“Because I want to show you that not everyone is the same. And that from the moment I lied eyes on you in the parking lot yesterday, I knew you were the most beautiful and deep and sensitive girl I have known and I want to know more. I don’t want to just hear your whole story- I want to be part of it. I want to change it.” I moved my face closer to hers. I wanted to kiss the pain away.

“I’ll stay.” She whispered.

“Promise to let me in? And stop shutting me out like this?” I asked her as I moved closer. Our lips brushed each other but I hesitated to kiss her. When she closed the space between our lips, I took that as a yes. I took her bag from her hand and intertwined her fingers in mine.
