6. Running loses my steam

Clare's POV

The Tow Company agreed to grab my jeep and bring it to the repair company. They said it may take up to at least three weeks to get in because the repair shop is so busy. Great... At least another three weeks I have to stay here with my family. I was walking down the stairs and about to find something for breakfast when I entered our lanrge kitchen. My dad was sitting at the counter drinking his morning cup of coffee and watching sports center of the tv that was planted on the wall next to the stove. He looked up, noticed it was me and then went back to his coffee. I don't mind. I don't care for my father anyways. He's never been a good dad to me. It has always been just my mom that was there for me. I heard footsteps coming down the stairs as I poured myself a cup of orange juice. I held the glass over the floor while iI poured my juice. My mom came in the kitchen in her long white bathrobe and when I looked back to my juice, I realized I was still pouring it. The orange liquid spilled all over the nice tiled floor.

"Crap!" I muttered.

"Clare! How dare you?" My dad started, "You come into this house after you left for months and then you decide to pour juice all over the floors that I paid for!" He stood up and was about to come over to me angrily. I flinched before my mom ran over and put a hand on his shoulder.

"Honey," my mom warned, "Calm down, it was an accident, right sweety?"

"Yeah, I didn't mean to spill!" I defended myself. Thank goodness for my mom or I don't know what would've happened.

My dad glared at me then went over to the cabinet and took a dish towel out. He threw it to me. "Now clean it up you clutz."

My mom gave my dad a dissapointing look. I think I get my anger issues from my dad. Even though I hate to admit it, I am unfortunately a lot like him But unlike him, I can control my anger.

After I was done my mom told me to come to the living room so we can all discuss my living conditions and such. I threw the wet rag that was soaked in orange juice into a hamper in our laundry room and made my way to the nearest living room.

"Clare, the repair shop called." My dad told me as I sat down.

I just realized that I hadn't told my parents about my jeep. "And?" I asked.

"The nearest time they can get you in is in over a month." My jaw dropped as I faced the fact.

"So I won't have a car for who knows how long?! This is bull!" My moms eyes widened at me. "Sorry, but it's true."

"And, uh, your not going back to Malibu until at least your jeep gets repaired." My mom added.

"What does that supposed to mean?"

"It means," my dad gritted his teath, "You're staying. Here."

"You've gotta be kidding me!" I retorted, "I'm 18 for crying out loud! I can do what I want!"

"But Clare, we've really missed you. And you're still our daughter. I realize you don't like it here for some strange reason but I need you here. With your dad gone a lot during the season because of his new job, I've needed help and I really want you here." My mom begged. "And if you don't stay," My mom started to threaten me, "You won't have access to your trust fund."

My draw dropped. I felt like dropping the F Bomb but decided not to since I was in enough trouble as it is. There are a few million in my trust fund. Thats my college money and my momey to live off of. "I can't believe this!" I got up and stormed out of the room. I needed to let off some steam. I went upstairs and changed into athletic shorts and a tee-shirt. I stomped back down the stairs and threw open the back door and started running down the beach. I left the door wide open just to prove a point. They can't control me. As I was running every thought went through my head. I run when I'm angry or upset. It helps me. Ellie taught me to do this. That's what she always did when she was secretly hurting. She would sneek out her window and run for as long as she could.

~Flashback. 8th Grade. 13 years old. Soccer Practice.~

"Ball! Ball!" I yelled for the ball. Ellie passed me the ball through the field. Her kick was amazing. I was always jealous at how good at soccer she was. Her red hair was up in a pony tail that was flailing behind her as she ran. I got the ball and dribbled through the defenders. It was just a one on one with me and the goalie now. I saw Ellie run up to the corner of the goal out of the corner of my eye. I quickly passed the ball to the right post where she then striked the ball in the goal. We ran to each other then highfived.

"Great job girls!" my coach yelled to us all. "Now water break!" We all ran to the sideline because if we didn't, Coach would make us run laps. Ellie and I were sitting together talking about how dumb our homework was while the rest of our team was scattered along the sideline also. Everyone was done drinking and everyone was beginning to jog back on the field. I was sitting but Ellie was already standing and was waiting for me. I put my heads in the air, signaling to her to pull me up. She reached her hands down and as I grabbed them I saw little red scar marks going horizontally down her wrists. There were about 10 of them on her left arm that were barely faded. I looked at her. She refused to look at me.

"I thought you stopped." I whispered.

"I did." She answered me. "But then I started again." Her eyes looked apologetic as she talked to me. But I just ignored her gaze.

"We're talking about this later." I declared. I couldn't let Ellie harm herslef like this, she was my best friend. I started to jog to the middle of the field where the rest of the team was. She didn't follow at first but then she started to slowly jog behind me.

~End of Flash Back~

Harry's POV

The guys and I just woke up. But like always, Zayn was still sleeping. I went downstairs and everyone else was in the shower and getting ready for the day. I was still in my Pj's and went to the kitchen. I grabbed an apple and my ipod and went down to the beach. I rolled my pajama pants up to my knees and sat in the sand. I let the water roll up onto my toes. I put my ear phones in and just relaxed. This is nice. I've always loved the beach. I looked to my right and saw a girl running down the beach. She must live in the house next to ours. Her dirty blonde hair was in a pony tail and she was power running along the sand. As she got closer, thats when it hit me. Thats Clare.

"Clare?" I stood up and called to her.

Clare's POV I was running up the beach in full speed when I saw a guy with curly hair. When I got closer i noticed that it was Harry sitting there with his feet in the wet sand. Please oh please don't notice me. Great... Just my luck. He turned his head to The right, realized it was me, then stood up. He called my name. I slowed my run to a jog and then eventually stopped when I got to him. I was breathing heavily because I had been running for about an hour when I finally decided to come back. We were just standing there awkwardly with Harry just staring at me. "Uh, hi." I said to break the silence. "What ya up to?" He asked. I gave him a look because he could obviously see that I was out running. "Just blowing off steam." I huffed between breaths. "What's wrong?" He asked. "Nothing." "How come I don't believe you?" He chuckled with a cheeky smirk on his face. "I don't want to talk about it, okay?" I turned around, obviously annoyed, and started walking back to my house. "Clare, wait!" Harry called after me. But I didn't wait. I just kept going, and frankly, I didn't care. He started jogging to catch up with me and stopped when he got infront of me to block me from keep going. "Seriously Clare, are you okay? You wanna talk about it?" He held his arm out as in signaling for me to sit on the beach. "Please. Just go away," I huffed. "Look, I was just trying to he-" I interrupted him, "Look Harry, I'm not in the mood. I realize that your the big world wide music sensation Harry Styles and I realize that your used to getting everything and everyone you want. But not me. I'm not going to talk to you and I'm definitely not interested. Okay?! So please just leave me alone!" I realized my voice went into a yell as I finished talking. Harry's face looked genuinely hurt and his mouth was open just a tad. I ignored his puppy dog eyes and turned around a ran to my beach. I didn't bother going inside to face my parents. I took off my shoes and put my toes in the wet sand to where the water reached. I sat down and was taking deep breaths to calm my breathing, knowing Harry was still staring. Niall's POV All of us were ready for the day, well except for Zayn who was still sleeping. We had no clue where Harry was. He were searching for him around the house when we heard voices coming from the beach. We walked to the deck and watched as Harry was talking to a girl in athletic clothes and a ponytail. I gotta admit, she was hot. "Woah, who do you think that is?" Liam asked. "Im not sure, but im going to find out!" Louis said with a wink as he started to walk across the deck. "Wait Lou, lets have Harry have this one. I think they know each other already." We all continued watching them. We couldn't hear what they were saying but we saw her turn around and start walking, then Harry jogged to catch up with her. Her voice was getting louder and louder when we heard "...not me. I'm not going to talk to you and I'm definitely not interested. Okay?! So please just leave me alone!" Her voice was yelling by the end. Harry's face was in awe as she turned around and ran to the house next to ours. She stopped in front of the house and sat in the sand, Harry was still staring. We all were shocked and jogged up to Harry in silence and wonderment. We stood next to him for a few moments before Louis broke the silence. "What's going on?" Harry still wasn't speaking. Liam looked frustrated as he was ski staring at the girl. "Who the heck was that chick and why did she say that to you?! She seems like such a bit-" Harry, still staring at Clare, cut him off. "Liam. Stop." Liam looked more calm. "Isn't that, uh, Clare?" I asked. "Yeah. It is." "What's going on?" Louis asked once more. "I don't know. But the more that she walks away from me, the more I wanna get to know her," he admitted. "Stupid, I know. It's just weird." "Ooh, Hazz likes a challenge!" Louis smirked and winked. "Ha, shut up Lou!" Harry shoved Louis and he almost fell in the sand. Louis got up and shoved Harry back. They both had huge smirks on their faces. Liam got between them and stopped the 'fight.' "So, lets go do something." Harry said. "Um, how about the mall? I need to get a new amp for my gutiar because me speakers blew." I suggested. "Sounds good to me." Liam said as the others nodded. "Now to get Zayn out of bed." "I call dibs!" Louis declared. "There's a large bucket of ice cold water with his name on it!" He smirked as he ran inside.
