11. Klenodie

"It's a treasure chest!" they exclaimed.

Ben broke the lock and opened it. There were about to fill their backpacks with as much diamonds and gold as they could when they heard a voice.

"You didn't really think you were going to take all that klenodie home with you, did you?"

The kids turned around.

"Jaaku."

"Yes. Sadly, but, I must say, it's all mine."

"How did you find us?" growled Ben.

"Oh, that. I simply just followed you. Now be a good child and obey me. Hand over the chest," he ordered.

"No."

"Bring the chest to me!" Jaaku snapped.

"No!"

"Then die," Jaaku roared as he raised his gun.

"Grrr," Nanu growled as Aani held him back.

"Over a chest?" she shrieked.

"Do you have any idea what that chest is?" snapped Jaaku. "Those diamonds and that gold and jewelry and klenodie belonged to the great viking Erik the Red! They cost fortunes!"

"Oh."

"Yes!"

"Still, why do you need to shoot us?" inquired Aani.

"Nevermind that! Bring it over here!" Jaaku bellowed.

"Why?" screeched Ben. "We found it! It's ours!"

Nanu whimpered.

"Ben, watch out!" Aani screamed as Jaaku lunged at Ben.

Nanu jumped into action in a flurry of scratching and biting. Aani flung her spade at Jaaku and ripped a piece of wood from the chest and whacked Jaaku with it. Ben joined in with his spade.
