5. Everything About You
As we left the station lot I turned to her, I was really annoyed and a little upset.
“I’m so sorry about that. I usually don’t bring the band up in situations like that. I just got really annoyed at him because- well just because.” I said in a rush. I almost said that I was really annoyed at him for checking her out. She smiled at me.
“It’s fine.” I opened my mouth to say something, she held up a hand “No, honestly. It’s fine. I would have reacted the same way if I was you.” she said kindly. I just looked at her.
“I hate that you had to see me like that.” I said softly, “but he was just being so rude. And I let it get to me and well-” she cut me off.
“Niall, it’s okay. I wouldn’t think any less of you just because you got annoyed with a cop.” she replied softly. Her voice sounded so kind and caring. And earlier after she fell and didn’t object to my arm around her, well it was perfect. Then when we were skating, her laugh was just amazing. It was so sweet sounding. I wished she would never stop laughing. When we fell I was worried that she would be hurt and get mad at me. But she didn’t she just smiled at me. I was going to tell her she was beautiful and amazing when that stupid cop came up. Then he was just checking her out. It was disgusting. He was being completely obvious about it. I honestly wanted to smack him. I almost did to, but then she just squeezed my hand and smiled at me. I couldn’t help but smile back at her. Now here she was reassuring me that even if I did get a little mad and used the band to try and get out of something she didn’t care. This girl was amazing and I had just met her this morning. Heck I still didn’t know her name. I almost wanted to stay in Dublin and not got to Mulingar just so I could spend more time with her. I smiled at her.
“You wouldn’t?” I asked unsure. She shook her head, smiling like I was being silly.
“No, Niall. I wouldn’t. It’s not your fault that cop was being rude. So why would I think any less of you for defending yourself to him?” she said. I wanted to give her the biggest hug. She was so sweet. I just smiled at her and said thanks. Then I looked at the time.
“Well it’s almost noon. Would you like to come get something to eat with me?” I asked she laughed softly and nodded. So off we went to the nearest restaurant, which ended up being inside a hotel. All through lunch I was nervous. I was afraid someone would recognize me and tell the press or the fans would come. We did pretty well during the meal. I asked her a bit more about the States and college. She was happy to talk about the States and her family. But when I brought up her college and friends she got a little distant and seemed more reluctant to answer questions. She also asked me some questions about myself and the band. She was a fan after all but she seemed different. She didn’t freak when she found out who I was, nor did she go and text or call anyone right away.
As we were leaving the hotel a little girl ran up to me.
“Excuse me sir, but are you Niall Horan?” I nodded, “Really! Oh my God I love you so much. Can I please have your autograph and a picture?” she asked excitedly. I nodded and signed her paper. Then my lunch partner offered to take the picture for us. I bent down next to the girl, put my arm around her, and smiled. After the picture was taken the little girl ran off. I straightened up.
“Thanks for that. By the way, I don’t think I ever caught your name earlier.” I said. She blushed.
“Oh wow I’m such an idiot. I’m Cally.” she said. Cally it was such a beautiful name. I smiled.
“Well Cally would you like to continue our walk? I promise I won’t get us into anymore trouble.” I asked. She smiled and nodded. I grabbed her hand and started walking again with her next to me. I hope she didn’t mind me grabbing her hand. It just felt right. As we walked outside I saw a few flashes. The press. I turned to her; she was looking around in confusion.
“It’s just the paparazzi. I had hoped they wouldn’t find me. I’m sorry.” she looked at me and whispered something, it sounded like “it’s fine” but I wasn’t sure.
“I can get us out of this but you have to trust me” I whispered to her. She just nodded. I tightened my grip on her hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. Then I started to push through the crowd. I could hear some of the questions. “Niall how was the tour”, “Niall are you guys working on anything new”, “Niall who is this? Are you two dating?” Crap they were asking the dating questions. I glanced at Cally out of the corner of my eye. She seemed okay, maybe a little overwhelmed. As more people asked if we were dating she blushed a little. God she was so adorable. I shook my head and continued pushing through the crowd. Back towards the hotel we both were staying at. The questions kept coming. As we walked I was getting more and more annoyed.
“The tour was awesome and fun, as always. We are always working on new stuff. And no we aren’t dating. So please leave us alone.” I said. I wish we were dating, I thought. The questions just kept coming.
“No comment lads sorry. Please just let us be.” I asked, trying not to snap at them. They just kept coming. Finally we reached the hotel, I pushed open the door. As soon as we got inside the doorman slammed it shut. A few people in the lobby turned to look at us; a few girls recognized me and came over asking for pictures and autographs. I signed the papers and smiled for the pictures. One fan offered to take a picture of me and Cally I looked at Cally she just shrugged why not. So I walked over to her and put my arm around her. She leaned her head against me slightly. I heard the girl taking the picture count to 3, I think I smiled but I also think I was looking down at Cally. I looked up and smiled for one last picture than I grabbed Cally’s hand and walked towards the elevator. As we got into the elevator I pushed the button for my floor then turned to Cally.
“I’m so sorry Cally. I didn’t think they would find me. I didn’t mean for any of that to happen. I’m sorry.” I said. I didn’t want her to be overwhelmed. And then there were the pictures of the two of us. I hoped the fans were nice to her. She looked at me.
“It’s fine. You can’t control when they follow you or not.” she said kindly. I sighed.
“I wish I could. They have almost no respect for people, and give us no privacy.” I said. She looked at me and put her hand on my arm. She seemed so kind and sweet.
“Niall, Please don’t worry. I don’t like the way they treat people either but just think, that’s there job. Maybe they like it but maybe they had no other choice.” she said softly. Now I felt bad. She probably thought I was some stupid, whiny celebrity. I looked down at her face.
“Your right, I don’t know why I didn’t think that way before.” I said softly, sounding a bit like a young kid did after being reprimanded by a parent. She just smiled.
“Not many people do. I used to get all mad at people like them just because I thought that they didn’t respect people’s privacy even though it had nothing to do with me, but then I thought about it some an realized maybe that’s the best they can do.” she replied. I looked at her. I wish I could tell her how wonderful she was. I opened my mouth to say something when the elevator doors opened. I grabbed her hand again and started to take her down the hall.
“I hope you don’t mind, but I figured since we never got to finish our day out we could just relax in my hotel room.” I said. She nodded. I opened the door. “I’ll be right back; I’m just gonna go shed a layer. Feel free to use the bathroom if you want to shed some layers as well.” I pointed in the general direction of the bathroom. Sue nodded and walked in, before closing the door she turned and said a quick thanks. Then she shut the door. I went into my room and changed into a different pair of sweatpants and a Jack Wills t-shirt.
