Across The Ocean

Working long hours at a beach shack on hot summer day's doesn't make your summer the worse. You know your summer's worse when the minute your best friend leaves to camp and her brother turns out to have a crush. But that's not bad even, it gets worse when you start dating him and then when your friend returns and finds out the truth on her own. Will Amanda and James live happily ever after or will their fairy tale at the beach come to an end?

13. Welcome Back!

I woke bright and early the next morning. Since Lily's house is down the street I decided to take my bike there. The 'Welcome Back' party will be held in the backyard later this evening and I want everything to go perfect. "Ah. Looks likes someone can't wait for a party." James cheers as he approaches me carrying two lounge chairs. I lean my bike against the house and take one of the chairs from him. We set the chairs in one portion of the yard along side the table that will be filled with food. "Let's go get the volleyball net in the garage," James says. We walk to the garage and we grab the net, along with water guns. After setting up the pool, volleyball net, tents, and chairs I hugged goodbye to James and hopped back on my bike to drive back home to get ready.

In one hour Lily will be back from Africa. Her parents already left to get her from the airport while mine are already at her house. I thrown on a pink sparkly blouse with floral pants and straighten my hair but then curl the ends. As I finish putting on my make up, the doorbell rings and James awaits there. "This is gonna be so much fun!" I cheer as I hop into his car.

James just smiles and follows me to his car. He ruffles the back of his hair with his hand and he hops into car and drives to his house. When we arrive the whole house is calm. Everything is all ready for Lilly's arrival. Her parents were outside waiting for her so that left James and I in the house. We putz around until we hear a car door shut. My ears perk up like a dogs to only find out it was her cousion, Sophie. She sits outside with my parents  to wait for Lilly's arrival. What seemed like years later we finally go outside to wait for her arrival.

She pulls up in a light blue CRV and we all stand up waiting for her to jump out of the car. She opens the drivers door and runs to greet us. Her short blonde hair has grown out to be shoulder length and her skin looked sun-kissed. She was wearing a blue sun dress with flip-flops.

"How was it?" I exclaim giving her a hug.

"A-mazing" she sings

"You need to tell me about it later" I say raising my eyebrows.

She laughs giving a hug to her brother. After all the hugs were shared. We went inside to continue the party. James and I brought out the snacks while James mom brought out the homemade berry pie. We all sat down and listed to Lilly's trip. I could tell bits and lives were missing....something about a boy...and I needed to figure it out. Once people started to leave I pulled Lilly aside.

"So, who's the lucky fellow?" I ask crossing my arms.

"I was going to ask you the same thing" she laughs. "You obviously have a thing with someone."

I smile back at her and look at James. I look back at her and say "I sure do"

She looks at me strangely and the realization sinks in. She stares at me and James.

"Surprise" I say grabbing his hand.
