Across The Ocean

Working long hours at a beach shack on hot summer day's doesn't make your summer the worse. You know your summer's worse when the minute your best friend leaves to camp and her brother turns out to have a crush. But that's not bad even, it gets worse when you start dating him and then when your friend returns and finds out the truth on her own. Will Amanda and James live happily ever after or will their fairy tale at the beach come to an end?

11. Family Time

"Mm. This is the best dinner I had in a long time." James admits.

"Thank you James." My mom laughs. My Mom and dad continue talk about their day all the things they did together earlier today.

The storm continues to rumble outside. Jackie excuses her self from the table and walks to her room. I continue to eat my peanut butter sandwich and fruit as I listen to my dad and James talk about sports. When I finish I clean up my plate and I set it in the sink as I continue to listen to their conversation.

"So you are going into your senior year?" My dad asks James

"Yep" he says

"what sport do you do agian?"

"Cross country. I excited for it this year because its my last year and they always do something for the seniors"

"Oh yeah, Amanda was talking about how she can't wait for senior day. It's supposed to be really fun" my dad states. Even though thir is a boys and girls team they both have senior day.

"Just one more school year until I'm a senior" I reply. James was only one year older than me so we were around the same age. "I'm also going to play soccer" I rely once agian.

"That's going to be a tight schedule" James says

"I know, I can't choose between the two sports"

"Fair enough" he chuckles and takes a sip out of his water bottle.

My parents excuse themselves from the table and walk upstairs to their bedroom to read. James and I sit in scilence until I hear Jackie tip-toe down the stairs to listen in on our conversation. I put my finger to my lips and mouth Jackie is eavesdropping.

He nods and mouths back follow my lead.

"It's terrible that your parents are sending Jackie to a girls military school" he winks at me and I smile.

"Shhh, keep your voice down. It's a surprise. We're going to be like "Hey buddy get in the car were going for ice cream." Then boom off she goes to military school" (I got that line from the TV show good luck Charlie.. also some of the next convo. is it's not my own:P) I see James trying his hardest not to crack up.

We hear her tip-toe back up the stairs and now we hear her walking normally down the stairs. "Hey guys what's up" she says walking towards the table.

"Nothing much" I say standing up.

My parents come down stairs and say to us "We had an idea and how about we all go out for ice cream"

"No!" Jackie screams

"Okay?" My mom asks questionably "Frozen yogurt?"

I high five James and my miter looks at us both questionably. We both crack up and James says "She was eavesdropping on us and we decided to make up a story that you were going to take her to military school.." James goes on explaining the rest as Jackie was sitting at the kitchen table blushing.
