Darkness. That’s all I knew for these last few days…weeks? I wasn’t sure. I couldn’t tell. I was practically a vegetable, only surviving on a machine to help me breathe. Without it, I would die.
Niall never leaves my side. I can feel his cold shaking hand in mine as he cries. I want so badly to open my eyes, to place my hand on his cheek, kiss his lips and tell him, “Everything will be okay Niall. I’m not afraid.” But I don’t have the strength.
Harry and the other boys come in to visit, telling Niall to get some rest, but he wont. “I can’t.” he says. “Jenny needs me. I can’t let her die alone.”
But now it’s just Niall and I. He gently brushes his thumb against my hand, and rubs them when they break into a shaking fit. He’s not taking this well. I know I’m dying, and so does the doctor. He came in and said,
“Niall, she can’t survive on her own. We need you to make the choice of taking her off breath support.”
“But…she’s strong. I know she can fight this.” he stammered.
“I’m sorry Niall. I really am. It’s just…it’s time to make the choice.”
I can feel Niall trembling under my hand. He called the boys to come so he can tell them what’s going on. I heard the door open and all four of them step in my room.
“Niall…what’s going on?” Harry says softly.
“They…they said she can’t survive on her own. And…and that she needs to be off breath support.” he said coldly. His grip tightened on my hand.
“Niall…maybe it’s time to take her off.” Louis said.
“No.” Niall replied.
“Niall you can’t do that. Think of Jenny. Think of how much pain she’s in.” Louis said sternly.
“DAMMIT LOUIS SHE’S A FIGHTER! I KNOW SHE CAN BEAT THIS!” Niall roared. Everyone was silent, the only sounds were Niall’s heavy breathing through the room, and the heart moniter, the monotone beep echoing through the room.
“Niall…” Liam started, but he stormed out of the room before he could finish. The boys said nothing for a moment.
“I’ll go talk to him.” Harry said, squeezing my cold hand before walking out of the room.
I never wanted it to go this far. Never. I know Niall would be upset but, I didn’t think this bad. I need to tell him that it’s okay to let go. We all die at some point, sooner than we hope, but it’s life and…it’s okay to let go.
Harry walked back in, sighing. “What’s wrong?” Liam asked.
“Niall. he’s drinking himself to an oblivion. He just cries, shouts and drinks.” Harry said sitting next to me.
No. This isn’t right. I need to talk to Niall. I need to move…
“Did you try to talk at all?” Zayn asks.
“Yeah…he screamed at me and threw a bottle in my direction.” harry said. “I hate seeing him like this…”
“Because we have never seen him like this…” Zayn said sadly.
Harry leaned down next to me, and whispered in my ear. “Please Jenny. Please wake up…”
And I did. I could feel myself slowly coming to. My mouth was dry and I was…freezing. My breaths came in short, painful rasps as I desperately gasped for air. There was a bright light as I slowly opened my eyes. All the boys had worried looks on their faces.
“H-Harry…” I croaked. Harry jumped at the sudden sound of my voice and all the other boys rushed over.
“Louis! Get Niall!” Liam yelled. Louis ran out of the room before Liam could even finish his sentence.
“What time is it?” I whispered.
“It’s midnight. Been one day since you were in here.” Liam said rushing to the other side of my bed.
“Wh…where’s Niall?” I gasped, taking a big breath.
“He’s coming love.” Harry whispered, trying to hide the tears forming in his eyes.
“It hurts…god it’s hurts…” I winced. Harry bit his lip and squeezed my hand.
“DAMMIT! WHERE’S NIALL?!” Zayn yelled running out of the room. Liam ran after him as Harry sat with me.
“He’s coming Jenny. Just hold on..a little longer.” Harry whispered. he looked around the room to try and distract me. “Look! It’s snowing! You like snow right?”
I loved snow. it made me remember the cold winter nights walking with my father. I would be seeing him soon…
“Yeah…” I winced. “I never got to share snow with Niall…”
Harry held back a sob as Niall rushed in. Harry kissed the top of my head and left Niall and me together. He rushed over to me, his cheeks red from the frosty air and wet. He reeked of beer.
“Jenny…I’m not letting you go. Alright? You’re strong. I know you can beat this.”
“Niall. Stop.” I croaked, squeezing his hand as best I could. “You need to stop this. Now.”
“Listen.” I said taking a deep breath. “I know I’m dying. Okay? I know you don’t want to let me go but…it’s time to. I won’t be sad if you let me go. And I don’t want you to be sad or guilty. I need to leave. It’s okay.”
He lowered his head, great sobs racking his body. “I love you so much…” he sobbed, kissing my hand.
“I love you Niall. It’s okay to let go…” I was slipping away. “Just…stay with me.”
Niall nodded and picked up my shaking body, climbing into bed with me and holding me close, planting a soft kiss on my lips, then rested his cheek on top of my head as we watched the snow fall out my window.
Okay, so, I'm almost done with this Movella. There's like one chapter after this. But I'm not sure if I want to do a sequel. If anyone has good Movellas and wants to co-author, I'd love that. Just tell me. Thank you! P.S. Hope you like the story. :)
