21. You're Safe
"What's going on with them?" I asked. "Who knows, they're weird." Louis said turning his head away from them. "It's probably hard on both of them. They lost everything. Maybe their just getting along together so well because they're the only thing both of them have. They're each others only hope for love..." Eleanor stated. I looked back over to the two of them. Harry's towering height and larger frame engulfed Layla in its shadow. I didn't like the fact that they could end up together. I didn't personally like Harry. He was my least favorite out of them all. I'd have to do something about it.
"Layla....Layla please calm down." Harry's voice begged. I looked up at him, wiping away the stray tears. He walked us further down the beach, sitting down on some towels left along the shore. The ends of them were frozen from the waves and the cold weather. He laid down on his back and put his hands behind his head, looking back up at the night sky. Soft snowflakes were falling into his messy curls as he closed his eyes. "Lay down." He said, eyes remaining closed. I slowly let my body fall back into the striped towel. "What do you see?" He asked. "Snowflakes....stars." I replied. "Look closer." I did as he said, propping myself up onto my elbows. I squinted my eyes, trying to see what was written in the sky. "I can't read it." I replied. "It says YOU'RE SAFE." He replied. "How's it still there? No ones alive..." I asked. "It stayed there since it ended or something." He said, eyes still closed. I laid back down again, resting my hands on my stomach. A few minutes of silence went by as we stared up at the stars. "Are you ok?" He asked. I looked over to him, tears now falling down his face. "Harry? Why are you crying?" I asked. He sat up, "Are you ok?" He asked again. "Ya, but why are you crying?" I tried getting the answer out of him. "Layla, I need you to tell me. Are you ok?" More and more tears kept falling from his eyes. "Harry. I really am fine. There's nothing wrong with me. But why are you crying?" I asked again, taking his hands in mine and seeing him trying to shield out his thoughts, but failing miserably. Pictures of my ex played though his mind. His abusive ways towards me, my pale face and bruised body. Blood. "Harry..." I looked at him, cupping his cheek. "Are you ok?" He asked. "I'm fine. I'm ok. He's not here anymore. He died in a car accident last year. Do you want proof? Because I was in the car when it happened. I'll show you if you wan-" "No," he cut me off, "I believe you. I don't want anymore images of you getting hurt going through my mind." He said laying me down. "Close your eyes." He demanded. I did as he said. Making sure he was still next to me by reaching for his hand and intertwining our fingers. "I'm right here. I won't leave." He promised. I let a few minutes of silence go by. I looked out for everyone else, but they were all asleep on the sand. "I don't think I should stay out here." I said. His heavy breathing was in perfect harmony with the waves crashing onto the shore. "You're safe. I won't let anyone hurt you." He said. I stared around for a few minutes. "I don't wanna stay here. I'm scared." I said. "Where do you want to go?" He asked. I sat up and looked around at all of the buildings. It was too dark to go searching for shelter now. "No where." I said. He turned on his side and draped his arms over me, pulling me in closer to his chest. "I'll stay awake until you're asleep." He whispered into my ear. "Thank you." I whispered back. I closed my eyes and listened to the sound of the waves. It didn't take long until I was asleep.
