2012. In a word, AMAZING! The year Britain became Britain. This is 2012 in a nutshell.
Well, where to begin. The Diamond Jubilee. Our lovely Queen Elizabeth has been on the throne for 60 years! just 3 more and she would have surpassed Queen Victoria. She did a tour of the UK to celebrate. And when she did the whole 'Good Evening, Mr Bond' thing and apparently para shooting out of an airplane she just...wow...
And the Jubilee Concert! Well, all I can say is, what great music Britain has. British music is, in my opinion, the greatest in the world. One Direction, Jessie J, Gary Barlow, Cliff Richard, Sir Tom Jones, Ed Sheeran, the list is endless.
I think that 2012 has been the year for music and movies, and not just British. One Directions newest album, Take Me Home, has been a great hit (with Platinum in America), and their Up All Night tour has made the English/Irish band popular in almost every country in the world. Taylor Swift's album, Red, reached Triple Platinum in America alone. Movies, such as Twilight Breaking Dawn part 2, The Hobbit and Les Miserables (YES!!!), the film industry has boomed.
Then came the Olympics and Paralympics. What an amazing 4 weeks. Jessica Ennis, Mo Farrah, Andy Murray, Tom Daley, Ellie Simmonds, our British Olympians/Paralympians were amazing. Not just British athletes We're proud of though, oh no. At my school, Newlands Girls School, one of our Science teachers, Martyna Snopek, was a Polish Paralympic rower, and we are proud.
Team GB may not have come first, but with 65 medals, coming inn 3rd and being a small nation we did fantastically!!!
And to top off Britain's best year ever, We got news that we would have a royal baby!! Our dear Princess Kate is pregnant!
So as I raise my glass (of monster) and bid farewell to 2012, I will always remember this year as the year Britain became the greastest Country and London the greatest city.
