"Let's go through it once more boys."
The boys were on stage, with Penny and me watching intently. They had been practicing routines and doing vocal warm-ups all evening. This was something different for me, seeing all of them perform. Since I'd been dating Zayn I really hadn't the time to come out and attend one of their practice sessions. It was something else seeing Zayn in his element.
The boys were laughing together, goofing off several times, only to be yelled at and straightened out. I loved seeing them this way, they were all so carefree at times and I admired that about them.
Though Louis and I had had an intense moment just a few days ago, things were good between us. There was no awkwardness; there was no feuding between him and Zayn. It was nice that for once, everything was working out.
The only thing I found difficult about this whole situation was the fact that I didn't know who to stare at on stage. I was in love with two fifths of One Direction. Two completely different people who completed me in two entirely different ways.
It was really hard to focus on just one of the boys when they both were singing into their microphones as though I was the only person in the room. I was sitting there secretly praying that Penny hadn't caught any of this. I knew that eventually I'd have to tell her, of course I'd tell her, just not right now. I really didn't need the drama.
"Okay well I think that's a wrap boys. It's not like you're getting much done anyways."
I heard Niall laugh, which made Louis laugh, and Harry follow. I watched them as they all shut their microphones off, handing them off and each walking off the stage. When they stepped closer to Penny and me, I noticed each of them glistening with sweat. Damn can those stage lights be hot.
Liam was first to approach us, walking behind us to the bag which he'd brought with him. He lifted his shirt off in one swift motion, ignoring the fact that Penny and I were gawking at his toned body. Liam unzipped his bag, pulling out a fresh, clean shirt and slipping it on.
Josh joined us as we all formed into a circle. "So what's everyone up to tonight?" Harry asked.
There was a moment of silence before Niall answered, "nothing, why? You got something planned lad?"
"I don't know," Harry paused, "I was just thinking that if nobody has plans you lot could come over and shoot some pool."
"Sure man!" Louis said.
"Sounds great!" I heard Zayn pipe up beside me.
We all began to walk towards the door, enveloped in our own conversations. "Hey mate?" I heard Niall ask Zayn.
"Do you think I could catch a ride with you?"
Zayn looked down at me, "Niall my car's only a two-seater."
Niall looked down at the ground, clearly disappointed. His hand moved to scratch the back of his head, "Oh I just really wanted to check out your new ride, but it's fine."
"Sor-" Zayn began.
I patted Zayn's chest, looking up into his eyes, "No, it's okay babe." I smiled. He looked down at me, "it's fine Zayn." I repeated softly.
"Cayc . . ."
"We're all going to the same place. It doesn't matter how we get there. Let Niall see your new car Zayn." Niall smiled at me as I spoke.
"Are you sure?" Zayn asked me.
"Don't be silly. I'll ride with Harry, right Harry?" I spoke up.
"Of course!" He yelled back, not even bothering to turn around.
"Okay, yeah that'll be fine. You can ride with me Niall," Zayn said as he patted Niall's shoulder.
Niall beamed, "thanks Caycia, you're the best!"
"We'll meet you guys there," Liam said, pointing to Josh as he spoke.
By this time we were already outside and at the cars. I gave Zayn a light peck to the lips and watched as Niall and Zayn walked to Zayn's car. I hopped into the back of Harry's car, with Harry in the driver's seat, Penny in the passenger's. My heart raced as Louis opened the back car door, hopping up onto the seat of Harry's large SUV.
Harry started the car, turning on the radio. I listened as some pop-rock song blared over the radio. Harry began driving and we sat in silence listening to the radio for a few minutes.
"So when are you guys planning the wedding for?" Louis interrupted the silence, staring at me with every word he spoke.
Penny turned around, "we're not sure yet. We've been rolling around with several ideas." She was beaming. I'd never seen her so happy.
"I'm sure you're excited," I spoke up.
"Never been happier," Harry said as he intertwined his fingers with Penny's. This was the face of pure happiness. They both knew what their hearts wanted: each other.
I leaned forward to look at Penny but my eyes were drawn to the situation happening right in front of our car. It was as if it happened in slow motion and I couldn't bring myself to look away. I watched as it flipped once, it flipped a second time, and a third.
I continued to stare in awe as Zayn's battered car rolled a fourth time before coming to a stop on its roof.
Don't ever doubt that a mere second can't change your life forever . . .
