In the morning I quickly woke up and got Kylie dressed. “Where are we going?” She asked me.
“We’re leaving,” I answered. She got dressed quietly and then I gave her the backpack I had packed. I was going to carry the heavy clothes, shoes, and half of the money. I gave Kylie a bag with blankets and the other half of the money.
We took off through the woods and I carried Kylie for a while when she got tired. “We just need to make it to the park. It’s only five more minutes,” I told her. I continued walking with her in my arms. I rolled my ankle when stepping over a twig. I kept walking on it, determined to get to the park.
Finally we made it to the park. Tired of walking we sat down on the bench and fell asleep again. I felt like I was on a boat as I dreamt because I felt like I was swaying. I opened my eyes and realized I was in someone’s arms. I struggled free and looked at the person holding me.
When I turned to the right I saw the same dark-haired guy from my school holding my sister. “Put her down,” I growled. He put her down and both of the boys there held up their arms. Kylie walked over to me.
“Who the hell are you?” I snapped.
“I told you. I’m Zayn,” The dark-haired one said.
“What the hell is that supposed to mean to me?” I barked pulling Kylie behind me.
“Em it’s okay. They’re good people,” Kylie chimed in. I turned to face her. She looked scared at me and I instantly softened my expression. “I woke up and they were walking in the park. They saw me and asked if I was okay. I didn’t say anything about what happened just that we don’t have anywhere to go. Zayn said we can go live with them,” Kylie added.
I turned back to Zayn. “Were you following me?” I questioned him. There was still a force to my voice but I struggled to keep calm because of Kylie.
“No. But when I recognized you I figured something was up. I guess you lied the other day,” Zayn responded.
“I didn’t lie. I simply left out information. Now we will be on our way,” I replied picking Kylie up.
