My mother and I spent literally all day packing up as much belongings as we could. We ordered a moving truck and movers to help us with this. I wanted us out of here today, and it was going to happen. I was in my bedroom, I had finished packing all of my clothes, shoes, cleaning stuff and everything like that. I was going through more personal stuff. Like old medals, trophies, family photos. I came across a picture of when I was much younger. There was a picture of my father, my mom, and myself. I looked to be still in middle school, around twelve years of age. We all looked so happy. My father, he wasn't always like this. He started drinking around the time this photo was taken, and it got out of hand real fast. Everything was a tornado from that point on. My parents divorced, I wanted to live with my mum, then my dad started to come to our home whenever he pleased. He would hit my mother, try to force her into sex, he would give hit me whenever I tried to interfere. When I joined rugby in high school, I got a little stronger and could only manage to stop him sometimes, when he was to drunk to function. But sometimes, I just wasn't strong enough. I wasn't strong enough to protect my mum and be the man she needed. I didn't notice tears were flowing from my eyes until I saw a drop appear right where my smile was on the photo. I quickly wiped my tears and threw the picture into the box along with other memories I didn't want to dwell on.
I carried all of my boxes into the car and closed the trunk. My mom was going to drive the moving truck, and I was going to drive my mum's car to our new home. It wasn't a house, but a two bedroom apartment that was somewhat close to the school, but farther away from where I lived. If Liam couldn't get me then I would have to ride the bus. I stood outside of the car as my mum paid the movers and thanked them. She then walked over to me.
"You ready?" I only nodded. She pulled out the moving truck keys and walked over to the truck. I got in my mum's car and started it. When it turned out I looked at the time. It was noon, school would be out in a couple of hours. I began to drive to the apartments that we would be living at. The drive wasn't long, and the faint sound of the radio helped sooth me. I was still angry about this whole god damn situation, but I refused to take it out on my mother. She is already going through enough as it is.
Soon enough, I was pulled up at some apartment complex. It didn't look to bad on the outside, I hope the inside wasn't rubbish. I parked my car and my mom followed suit getting a spot right next to mine. I got out and leaned against the car, my mom got out of the truck almost falling from the height of the truck, she had to jump and almost lost her balance. I stifled a small laugh and she shot me a glare, her face burning with heat. She put makeup to cover her bruise and somewhat swollen eye.
"I'm going to go inside and get everything settled alright? Be back as soon as possible honey." She called as she walked towards the office of the apartment. I decided to get back into the car. I rested my head against the window and before I knew it I was drifting off into a deep slumber.
After school I waited by my sister's car as usual. And just like every other day, she showed up about 10 minutes after school. She gave me a fake smile and unlocked her car. I tossed my bag in the back and climbed into the car. The car ride home was quiet, our faint humming to a song on the radio was the only sound made. When we pulled up the the apartments there was a big moving truck parked by our apartment and there was a small woman carrying boxes.
"Hm, new neighbor?" Reign said as she parked her car.
"It appears so." I climbed out of the car and grabbed my bag. Reign grabbed hers and we walked around the car, stopping and watching her. "Should we help her? I mean, it looks as if she's alone." I said. Reign looked herself up and down and raised her eyebrows.
"Sorry, but I can't. Do you see what I'm wearing?" She said. I gave her a look of disappointment and she sighed. "Fine, just let me change into something more comfortable alright? Give me your bag." She took the bag from me and made her way towards the steps leading to our apartment. I walked over to the lady walking back towards the moving truck.
"Excuse me ma'am." I said politely. She turned around and gave me a smile.
"What can I do for you?" She asked.
"Well, it's not everyday we get new neighbors. My name is Zayn, and I live over there." I said pointing to my apartment number. "I saw you out here alone, and I was wondering if you needed any help here?" I asked.
"Oh, I'm not alone honey. My son is in that car over there." She said pointing towards a black car. "He's just asleep right now. Poor thing, we moved today basically. He didn't go to school, just been lugging things back and forth. He must be exhausted, he fell asleep and I just let him stay in there." She explained to me. I nodded.
"Well, I can still help? It's really no problem." She smiled at my gesture.
"I really don't want to be a burden."
"Oh, it's no burden. My sister is coming to help as well, she just went upstairs to change. And trust me, once she's set on doing something, it's hard to get her to stop until it's done." I said. She laughed a little and I smiled at her.
"Alright then. Here just take these, and it's that apartment over there." She said pointing to it. She lived upstairs also, but a few doors down from me. I took the box out of her hand and headed towards her apartment. Once I walked through the door of her new home, it looked almost identical to mine. I placed the box next to many others. Soon enough, Reign joined back with us. It took us about an hour total to get the boxes out of there. Then we had to get the couch, tables, and some other furniture. It all wrapped up around about 8:30.
"Thank you lovely children so much! When I get the place together, I'll bake you and your family a nice batch of cookies to show my gratitude." The woman said smiling.
"No problem ma'am. It was nothing." I said smiling. Reign nodded and also smiled at the woman.
"Oh, stop calling me ma'am! My name is Anne." She said smiling.
"Alright Anne, well it was no problem. And I think we'll be on our way-" I was mid sentence when I saw a tall bloke coming in. Curly disheveled hair. I could spot him from a mile away.
"Mum?" Harry asked confused. He turned his gaze to me and my sister. "Maliks?" He was obviously confused by the expression on his face. "Am I missing something?" He asked, eyebrows furrowed.
"These two lovely souls helped me get everything in hear. We still have some unpacking to do, but they helped me get everything in here." She said holding his shoulder smiling up at him.
"You could've woken me." He said, almost sounding angry.
"Non sense, you were exhausted Harry. You needed rest." She said. He grunted before turning his gaze over to us. My eyes widened at what I saw as did Reign. He looked confused as to our faces, then he quickly looked away.
"Harry, what happened to your.."
"Nothing." Harry said, sternly cutting my sister off. "I fell." He said. Obviously it was a lie, but I wasn't going to push him any further.
"Maybe we should leave. Ya' know homework." I said nervously scratching the back of my neck.
"Right. Um, it was nice meeting you Anne!" Reign said smiling at her. "Harry, uh see you at school tomorrow." She said as she shuffled out the front door. I waved to Anne and walked out the door feeling very uncomfortable. Well, Harry Styles and his mum were our new neighbors. This should be just great. Just great.
